Charjas..has your dog a bed which is not in a crate? Those cones and crate combinations can be scary ..they make noise..dog can't turn around or get comfy without cone rubbing on the crate..which jerks their heads and makes noise ..I don't really blame him for just standing there. Does he have something nice to eat ... or his favourite toy that he can access ? ..and what did you do to convince him it was a party hat? :) My dogs have LOVED having their buckets/cones/icecream containers on ... cos it means treats and cuddles and going for a walk ..and treats , and bones .... :) yes, you need to make sure they know that they still can move and walk and do their obedience ..and play tug ,and eat yoghurt off a spoon (who said that?) ..and you do need to just make it a normal thing ...yayyyy..time to put on the cone ... here..poke your head in this..now you get something terrific . Let me do it up...yayy something more of whatever's terrific..and so on . PUT A LEASH ON .. and lead the dog around inside & out ..so it realises legs & eyes & nose all still work :D ..hopefully you find a cause very soon!

Hmmm.. I prefer to give them their food in a form which fills their BRAIN , not their belly :p treat balls, frozen food ... hidden food , etc. My way of thinking is that a dog's tummy will shrink nicely , and probably be more comfortable, with a good quality small amount of food containing the protein kick which tells the brain "all is well":... , than a gut full of rumbly cellulose and fibre . any diets here .. are fresh meat based, with the odd apple/bone ..just for a while ...and meat frozen, or presented in a container, etc is an interesting - non-gulpable dinner :)

yep..like my pack when we go after feral cats who hide in bushes or under buildings ..... I bet those dogs do as well !

The cat episode was a surprising inclusion ! I honestly expected to see dogs running off with a leg each ,or something!! Guess it was included to illustrate what lack of control can lead to ... ?

Scary have you had any 1:1 training from a professional with these dogs? I strongly suggest you consider it , for several reasons .. it will really help with your confidence and the way you react to things ..and will also help with how to control your dogs . .. and may I suggest you not wrap the leash tightly around your hands .... this is one thing I was taught from day 1 .. when you (and your dogs) learn communication and control ..esp. vocal control .. the leash becomes just another communication device.. it is not a restraint . Restraint ideally comes from within... It is so hard when unexpected things crop up ..and the mind starts seeing all sorts of outcomes ....but think if those dogs suddenly either got in a bad fight, or they were dragging you onto a road perhaps .. with the leash wrapped tight around a wrist/hand , there is more likelihood of you being badly injured :( I'm glad everything turned out ok... :)

Gus is a year old ..and I would think now that he should be able to run & play without these problems ? What advice does his breeder have? Are any others in his litter/line having similar problems? Has he had Xrays? What daily 'forced' exercise has he been getting ..how far a day on lead ..and how much free running at parks etc ? :( this is just sad, and could also be dangerous .. if he loses control like that, he could fall/break/dislocate something , or stretch things more. Please see a vet .. and /or a specialist , if xrays & thorough examination warrant it. also... The Chiro may be exttemely helpful , however IF you do need to refer back to Gus's problem at a further date..you will need a definite VETERINARY diagnosis . I would suggest CAUTION before diving into massive doses of Vit. C as well. I have read on here posts about Dallys with bladder stones etc ..and think you would be wise to check carefully as to how Dallys cope with this treatment. Vit. C is not entirely harmless ... and if you are inexperienced, do your research first :) Better safe than very very sorry . Hope Gus is strong and sure again ....

Cones, bandaging etc won't stop the itch, or treat the cause ..I also suggest a consult by a dermatologist or at least a different vet ... :) the standing still with cone on - that is just him getting used to it .. I usually show them that they can still chew bones/eat treats/walk on leash with it on..and they accept it fairly quickly ...

..and that is terribly useful and empathetic advice. NOT. The poor lady ..she is not all that old . .and memories of her husband , while I appreciate the home holds lots ...if she moves, she can maybe take favourite plants, rugs, etc ..and perhaps someone can do a photo essay of the house & garden..so she then has the visual links to those good memories? If she is forced to give up her dogs ..then my fear would be she has not much to live for ..and that house full of good memories would maybe feel like a tomb . Constant worry and fear is not good for her health ....and her stress may in turn, alter the dogs' behaviour . My suggestions are some counselling , someone objective to aid her in sorting things thru in her mind , and for someone to perhaps start gently looking at different accommodation

Now that is a disturbing tale can she not apply for another house ? I guess though it would be a very long wait :( Is there no relative/friend who could help her seek accomodation? The poor lady should be able to enjoy her time and her dogs .... legally there 'must' be something to help her, surely ...

My first reaction was pain . eating sometimes = pain.. so the bowl could be suspect . kibble may have hurt ..so not keen on kibble I am thinking quickly ,.and what I come up with is maybe his oesophagus cramps..or his stomach muscle, or the valve in between? Kibble ,hard bits, or big gulps of meat + a cramp would be VERY uncomfortable ..and could explain the shaking ....

I thought I'd start this , as today I found a couple of images of dogs I knew & loved .Shilfie the terrier died a few years ago , and Luca,the groenendal, a few months ago ...this is how I like to remember them :)

:) he could compare scars/bruises with a lot of our working dogs .. there are often skirmishes between dogs from different owners .. and every 'earmark'/white scars on noses tell a story! he is such a gorgeous boy ... it hasn't ruined his good looks at all :D Would it be really crass to sneak to the park and put up notification posters , alerting dog owners to the fact that there may be an aggro dog there, so they can be aware?
