No idea! All I can think of is when the carcase is scalded to remove hair ?
-
Dogs, unlike horses and humans do not sweat ..except a small amount from their pads. I presumed this is why they have no need of any added salt...pigs are the same- they do not sweat, and adding salt is not recommended.

Banshee will be so pleased to be 'home'

My Border Collie Is Limping - Not Much Anymore!
persephone replied to Lollipup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hoping the xrays come up clear, and that some rest & anti inflams do the trick -
many years ago, when I was a kid.. I had a little mini foxie bitch. Mum & dad bought a purebred lab at great expense ... and while a pup the mini used to boss her around. fast forward a couple of years.... twice we came home to find my mini with her throat ripped open, literally- not just a hole or two..... Luckily she was able to be stitched/bandaged to recovery. We forever after had to be careful.

Both... because it goes hard and cannot be broken down, in a crushed form,it may become a hard dry mass in the gut, as well as not having the good bits available to the dog . That's my understanding, anyway - I am happy to be corrected

WE have always had entire bitches....Only once in latter years have we had a tragedy - one bitch killed another ...then dragged her to the back door .We buried two dogs that night. There have been many other fights requiring stitching and damage control. Oh- and in the past couple of months two of our house dogs ( one just into double figures, the other in her teens) had a nasty fight in the kitchen... rammed me in the knees when they careered around a corner..and one in particular suffered nasty scalds from the jug of boiling water I was carrying They are both healed now... but need to be watched, and shuttled in & out the house...

Cooked bone is indigestible...so they cannot break it down and use it !

He is such a gorgeous big boof!

My guess is that there is sufficient salt in blood etc for their needs.
-
That's a pretty extreme reaction to a telling off - but I am glad she seems ok. As fifi said- those symptoms can indeed be a sign of something very serious ..and if it was bloat ...then every minute counts ! Hope all is well now
-
Good!! don't muck around!!!
-
have you contacted a vet, or is she looking much better?
-
VET. NOW. she could have all sorts of nasties happening internally. Please at least PHONE a vet.... it could be very serious..like bloat or something else life threatening.
-
I have just re read your post, subzero.. :D The bit I have put in italics is a real concern. You are very right in worrying about rehoming her. Please seek out a good behaviourist who will explain to you exactly what is happening with your dog/s...then you will have to decide which course to take.

He did really well. I have one printed out to A4 size- and it looks nice & clear ..with blades of grass, clods of earth all flying thru the air Thanks.

Hey, bushranger- perhaps Lacey is pushing at you to think about a new dog? maybe you could start looking at these pages when they are updated- see if anything jumps out at you? CLICK HERE

vet, sooner, rather than later. Maybe a different vet. A dog in so much discomfort that it will not eat needs diagnosing/treating. Hopefully another vet will perhaps suggest xrays or something to find the cause of all the pain. Best of luck .
-
The short & sharp & shiny version ,sorry. These dogs can not be run together. the situation should be assessed by a competent behaviourist ...and you then need to act on their recommendations. This behaviour may never be 'cured'. You may well not be able to responsibly rehome your bulldog. An aggressive bull breed is not everyone's ideal.

Glass??? Honestly- trying to snake proof/bee proof a dog run will be very tricky!! Snakes will fit thru tiny gaps- as will bees.Snakes can climb, as well . Cane toads- I guess they just need a barrier they cannot jump..or small mesh . I guess it will depend on the area to which you move- what gardens/parks/waterways are around ..and what th eclimate's like, as to exactly what beasties will be your neighbours . Contact the council in which you will be resident- ask on here to see if anyone lives in the vicinity ..also maybe contact a vet in the area , and ask them

Constipation.... My Boy Has It!
persephone replied to Sunnyflower's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
...and if he still hasn't done aything by this afternoon- the vet might be a good plan. The more faecal matter sits around inside, the dryer and harder it gets, and so on. Also- sometimes 'constipation' can be a blockage.
