Help Please .... Hematoma On Dogs Ear
*Avanti* replied to 4paws4me's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I hope Winston's surgery went well. I am bumping this thread because my dog (Labrador) has what I think is a hematoma. It came up rather suddenly in the last day or so. She has a grass allergy and though I keep her off the grass she still gets some inflammation in her ears and on her paws. I have been using ear drops to help with her ear issues. She shakes her head a fair bit and I think that has caused it. I rang to see if I could get her to an emergency clinic but they said it could wait until tomorrow. I am wondering what to do for now, it is only in one ear on the flap part. Should I tape it up? -

Help With Identifying Parasite On My Lab
*Avanti* replied to coodgee's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had an unrelated site come up last night too and closed it quickly and didn't look further. I suggest maybe the OP could put your pics on photobucket or some safer site and/or ask your vet what the 'parasites' are. edited for clarity -
I doubt a little would do much harm, probably one without sugar would be best. Maybe your dog might eat natural yoghurt if it was mixed with meat?

I agree, I think the unofficial ones, at least in my area, seem to on the increase and are going a bit far. Surely we can celebrate New Years Eve with less or without them. I'm probably sounding like a nanny state nanny. A friend in Sydney had a Labrador come to his back door last night soon after midnight. He didn't know the dog but it was obviously very distressed. Luckily the dog went to the right house as my friend took him in and comforted him and found the owner this morning.

It sounds like that here too, at least my dogs are fairly relaxed about it! They're on the couch. Happy New Year.

My two labradors sleep on the bed, they let me share it when them. :D

My 8 year old lab got pancreatitis about three years ago and was in hospital on a drip for five days. I think a lot of marrow bones contributed to it as I had been giving her quite a few. It wasn't them alone though. A week or so before she got it she had raided the kitchen and found a few things she shouldn't have had like chocolates and peanut butter...don't ask! Anyway it has been a long road to recovery but she is terrific now. Her staple diet now is Advance Weight Management which is very low in fat content. She also gets some veggies and rice as well but no more bones I’m afraid, instead she has raw carrots. Wishing your girl a speedy recovery.

Far too young. I remember when you first got him and what a joyous time it was. Hugs to you TangerineDream, run free at the bridge Tango.

Thank you IggyLover. As it turned out we had good luck getting a taxi. I did not know they would do it. It went without drama although the taxi driver said he as scared of dogs and I had to hold her head etc. Bella is so not aggressive but I figured I had to respect the taxi drivers fear and reassure him. It all went ok and Bella is recovering from the tooth extraction now.

Anne I'd never feed my dog chicken jerky made in China anyway as I don't trust their use of pesticides and preservatives. I make my own treats for them these days so I know what's in them.

Thanks for your reply trojka. $60 did seem a bit much given the journey is no more than 3kms.

It all seems to happen at once. My dog has an infected molar and my car permanently died today with a major mechanical issue. In a few weeks I am getting a new car but not until then. In the meantime one of my Labradors is booked in for a tooth extraction on Friday. Because the tooth seems infected I do not want to delay teatment but I am now wondering how to get her to the vets. I rang one number the vet gave me and he wanted $60 each way. When I started to say I thought that was a bit much he hung up the phone on me which I thought was rude as well as unnecessary. Anyway apparently some taxi drivers will take pets and some will not but as we have an appointment time that she must come in I ask fellow Melbourne people if they can recommend someone. I am in Preston and the vet is about 2-3km away in Coburg, a suburb next to mine.
