  1. Hi Nic12, I had two yellow Labs that were allergic to Kikuyu grass. It made it very hard because I had to fence them off from the lawn but they were still somewhat affected by it but not as much as with direct contact with the grass. We still lived with constantly irritated ears and feet regardless of my efforts. I took them to a canine dermatologist who suggested a course of injections to desensitise them but it was not guaranteed to work and I could not afford the treatment being two dogs. My commiserations for you and your boy, I hope it may not be a grass allergy but Kikuyu could be one to have him tested for if it is in your yard or local parklands. They shave an area and do little scratches to test for numerous likely suspects. The dermatologist got me to bring in a sample of my grass and sure enough it came up as a raised pink welt straight away. If it is the grass and you own the property another thing to consider is replacing the grass. Another thing to have him checked for could be secondary fungal infections that can I think occur as a result of the initial allergy but I'm not a vet so best to ask them about that.
  2. This gorgeous 8 year old girl will need a special committed home due to pending health issues. http://www.lortsmith.com/adoption/1151/141/hoshi/ Edited to update; Hoshi has been adopted.
  3. If you are so worried then it would be best to take him to hospital, it sounds urgent to me. That's what I would do without thinking twice, just to be on the safe side. He is a tiny infant and every day matters.

  5. If he's dehydrated and given the other things you have described I'd take him straight to hospital, he might need to go on a drip. Fingers and paws crossed for your little pup to get through this. I'd also contact the breeder.
  6. I also agree, if it can get happening I think some competition could be healthy and a good thing.
  7. I hope a workable solution turns up for him Jo, fingers crossed.

  19. Hmm, well it's nearly Saturday.... This gorgeous pair are at the Lort Smith Animal Hospital hoping for a loving home together to see out the rest of their years. Mindy, 12 years and her son Memy, 8 years. http://www.lortsmith.com/adoption/1058/141/mindy/ http://www.lortsmith.com/adoption/1059/141/memy/ I love that smile! :)
  20. Has he had a check-up at the vets? One of my dogs became very skinny and it turned out she had kidney failure. Fortunately she came right after treatment and a special diet. I think you would be wise to take your dog to the vet for blood tests because it sounds like more than diet to me, especially as you say he is getting worse.
  21. I'm sorry to hear about Jindi Isabella. I've got a spare roll of PetFlex which is similar to Vet Wrap that I would be happy to donate. I also have some little socks but they may be too big for a Westie. PM me if you think any of this might help and I could send it to you. Here's a rough pic, upside down and all. The tape is 3" wide x 2.2 yards unstretched.
  22. Aww, how cosy they look. Preston sure is a sweety. Well, he and all his snuggle buddies are! :)
  23. It might be a good idea to get a smaller dog that was already used to a bigger companion. I've been looking at some rescue adoption websites lately and come across some that require the company of another dog. If you are willing to be patient the right one might come along. Also I'm not sure with size differences but I often have heard getting a dog of the opposite gender is more likely to work, so a male might be best. I'm not sure if that matters though.
  24. I'm sorry for your loss Ricey of your special boy. RIP Hobbes
