  1. he is very adorable i only found out about aussies a few years ago and wouldve loved one for our son one day ...maybe... they come in such lovely colours and the markings make them all look so distinct congrats on yours...have the best of times with him please excuse the lack of punctuation but the sentiment is in the right place ey lol
  2. our smooths are coated but the furry dogs arent we like the jammies without the legs..theyre the polar fleece ones and have piddle room...the boys dont squirt up onto the chest area in this design
  3. all our dogs used to be outside but not this current tribe all of them stay inside we were spooked by our friend's experience when someone came in and took their elderly dog the fear was that it was taken for dog fights...you know how those stories get around but because we have small dogs...there was no way i was going to keep them outside after that incident we live in a good suburb...safe supposedly with some neighbours at home most of the day but it wouldnt take much for someone to steal or let ours go for a wander i dont want to chance it so feel much safer with them in the house they have the run of the family room rumpus and kitchen area ...they use the sofas and the dog beds and some like to be close to the big windows for the sun and others prefer to be away from that kind of sun either way ...i just feel better about going to work... i dont work a terribly long day so it is ok and we dont have problems with toileting..they hang on... on occasion we might have the odd accident if someones had a stomach upset but theyre all on slate it is not an issue if they were big dogs...i probably would have them outside but would lock the gates provided your dog isnt a barker or an escape artist you should be ok id wait til he was at least five months old though
  4. i used to go for coats soft and nice to stroke so i loved spaniels loved their soft nature too but now i go for the exotics if i could id get a borzoi i go for looks now...cos im more experienced and i can put up with the challenge of training something that is not as easy as some of the breeds ive had in the past like goldies and gsds im over the common breeds...oh i do appreciate a good looking one...but the more common the breed, the more the faults are noticed by me and it is nigh impossible to get a great specimen if you admit you dont want to show so if you choose the less common breeds you dont have so many to compare it to...shallow i know ... so as long as theyre not big on doggy odour or drool as long as it isnt a fighting breed or a working breed, ill consider it i used to love beardies but i dont like wet fur round the face ...i dont like staining the older you get...it seems to me anyway...the more specific your requirements become cos youve tried so many breeds and know that no breed is perfect..only the individual within that breed might be close to perfect in the end it is temperament...and even then i have changed i never saw the point of having an aloof dog like a sighthound but im drawn to that now
  5. i love the shelties gosh theyre something that eye contact that devotion to the task ! but i have also seen some marvellous paps theyre clever little tykes
  6. hi there! love kelpies and yours are just too cute cant have working dogs in my household but gee theyre great dogs in the right environments envy your situation!
  7. definitely a kind thing a noble act but definitely get support dallies are big strong dogs not the easiest to train either but some or even all of these dogs might be ok..naturally its not like theyre that old either id give it a go but have some extra hands on deck
  8. if its ear mites then there is a lot of very dark wax...and it has a particular odour i treat mine with paraffin oil ( do that with the odd mite i get with the birds too) have never not got rid of them this way and it takes very little effort i just syringe some into the ear and massage it cheap as too but youd really have to rule out any other cause i have actually seen the little tiny blighters...little weeny things...white moving almost invisible to the naked eye...but not every time just check with the vet if they think it is ok it was my vet who whispered to me not to waste big money but to try the paraffin oil grateful to her...!
  9. we use the antiflea green mattresses you can scrub and hose them and theyre as good as new we cover these with cushions and then throw a big woollen blanket over it..ends up looking like a sheiks affair lol but you do need a wall behind it to support the cushions
  10. our cold froggie dog sleeps on his armchair on the landing so hes well off the floor he wears polar fleece pjs then i put another outdoor coat on himas well he hops on to the armchair which has a remnant of an old woollen blankie as a sheet for the wonderful warmth that wool sustains then i tuck him in with another larger woollen blanket...he stays put all night ..if he has to turn then he kinda turns with the blanket over him anyway and i think sleeping on that woollen base reallly does keep his body warmth intact no complaints from him..he pelts up the stairs to the armchair of his and will only wake me to ask to go out around 6am....then he will happily continue to sleep in for our weekend sleepins ...no problems
  11. i mix the biozet in water i mop up what i can...with paper towels then set to work if it is on carpet i work in squares..not in circles cos that rubs the carpet the wrong way so i work horizontally then vertically, mopping up the excess as you go i have used warm water but if it is for faeces then i start with cold then warm...cold first so that the proteins dont set in hot water ...you need a hot solution to break down the fat later that is still in the poo stain works great with vomit too...after you scrape up the the solids always work inwards...dont spread the stain..you dont want stomach acids moving in and outward from the stain
  12. awfylly scary incident and reflects things i have seen myself with sighthounds in dog parks i love sighthounds but they are not suited for dog parks for the most muzzled or not i have had my comments removed from the 101 breeds on greyhounds yet what soaring magpie says here is what i was talking about get a pair of sighthounds out there in a dogpark and you dont know what can set them off i doubt any owner could read the signals and noone can call a sighthound off midflight ill stick by my words over and over... nothing to do with bashing them cos im all in favour of rehoming them but i really dont know that much can be done about their huge need for chasing and certainly they are known to have very poor recall i dont know anyone who trusts their sighthound completely...with their smaller dogs at home or strange dogs out in the open i wouldnt take the chance poor things...so very few places they can take a run if it's not chasing little dogs and cats...then its the danger they place themselves with their galloping that gets them under a car i guess the only safe place for greys to go for a run is endless stretches of wild beach away from roads not too many people have access to that so i guess leadwalking is the only way these dogs get to exercise...shame when theyre built to run do hope the little dog gets better..poor tyke
  13. must be a nice feeling to foster i mind dogs sometimes but dont foster yet so nice to give em a safe warm place
  14. thats exactly the kind of person who shouldnt be buying a dog like that wow scary if he is threatening you what sort of dog owner is he going to be scary mentality of some people sorry for your mess...be careful and extricate yourself as quickly as you can
  15. we have had a lot of dogs in my day and only one..our latest cries to go out he will actually give a whine and paw at our bedroom door...very lightly to let us know hes busting such a good boy now he sleeps on his own couch on the landing with a blanket and never stirs til he needs to go and thats around the 6 am mark all of the others...we just have to time them so when the boy on the landing has to go i haul the others out of bed except for the old bitch who sleeps with our daughter ..this oldie is part camel and can hold her bladder for ever lol so i dont bother rousing her from her royal grumpiness but the boys all get pulled out from under the covers and made to march downstairs to the garden even if they have given no signal i know there are ways to teach your dog to signal with a paw on a bell but ive never bothered...maybe if i had a working breed or something super clever but thats not our lot...lol...so we just do it my way and that suits us fine!
  16. i toilet trained all of our dogs ( the recent tribe ie) in the following fashion id sleep with them tethered to my wrist theyd be on the bed with me at the first stirring id be up and out in the garden...even in winter very soon...only about a week...the pups could hold it til about 530 or even six if i toileted them at midnight but they never had any water they were in my bedroom ...no bowls id do the same method againwith my next pup...which wont be for many many years now cos we are a full house at the mo the hassle is great in the beginning...especially if it is a winter puppy but it is quickly toilet trained cos there are very few accidents and they get the picture quickly it really helped of course that we had other dogs...especially the bitch...she was desexed of course..but even so the boys would all squat over where she went..one after the other///even to thisday..they wait for the old girl to go and two of them still do their duty over her patch
  17. what ive read and followed about toileting dogs is this: keep taking them outside and then you have to know where they are when they inside...all of the time so i used to tie a lead round me and keep the dog with me the whole time or tether him to a heavy table or a hook in the skirting board with a basket to lie in ifn theyre unreliable then you have to know whats going to break the habit neutralise the area hes peeing on with a pee off type product or use biozet mixed with water to break down all three enzymes that dogs sense in urine and return to but the key is supervision little dogs can go in places you wont dream of so you must know where your dog is all of the time..until the habit is broken good luck pain in the beeeeehind for sure but it can be done
  18. sorry to hear the news about the leg but what can you do? this is life with its twists and turns out of the vapour comes this tragedy but it couldve been worse so you just have to go forward shaking head stuff...but hopefully complete healing and acceptance and some great times ahead
  19. do some dry runs and and feed some treats
  20. ooh every good wish ive known of a dog..hes six now who was sent to a vet with parvo from a petshop he was fine after weeks of being at the vet the other case was a schnauzer pup also pulled through all the best with your relatives dog and the cleaning up of your car
  21. ive said it here before and some disagreed but ill stick to my guns and tell you of my experience with my gsd i am a fan of them i still admire them they are so loyal and devoted...it is really touching my gsd came from qld ' i chose him myself and he wqas a sweet submissive pup but when we wnet home he was introduced to my dominant dachshund all was fine til the gsd reached nine months a fight ensued over a ball dachsie went for the gsd and that was the final straw gsd killed him i always think of it as me killing my darling dachsie cos it wqas my inexperience of putting two dogs together they were both desexed but i think the problem was ..was that both dogs wanted me badly and were very possessive even though nothing happened til the ball incident it was all simmering no doubt but i had no experience with reading signals ive had a cav much softer nature than a dachsie who can be quite fiesty with other dogs so there is a definite chance that your cav will just mellow out even more and succumb totally to your new gsd but gsds do want to be with you they can be possessive of their owner and naturally protective because of my experience ill never have a gsd again but thats a personal thing cos id want to get another dog as well and id always be wary its a big price to pay...getting the combination right personally i think you get something aloof with the gsd let the gsd have the luxury of your attention and the other dog should be a breed that is more independent and not so needy of course you can train any dog goood luck cos if the training isnt spot on theres a lot to lose i cant speak with any great authority there are people here who can speak from more experience and maybe i was just darn unlucky still wouldnt take a chance dont get me wrong either im not afraid of gsds even though my boy turned my dachsie into a rack of lamb in seconds i know they are marvellous dogs and any big dog could do damage to a little one and in some cases vice versa applies if i had a cav id get another mellow breed like a golden retriever or lab..maybe even a nice spaniel
  22. long ago someone told me stick with boys and she was right id only keep boys if i had multiples bitches throw things out of whack they can be so temperamental if the boys get on then a newcomer should be fine but ask for a submissive dog dont get an alpha puppy get someone from the middle of the pack
  23. one lucky little doggy she is with winter coming it is great she has someone who will give her the protection she needs pity about the fearbiting that is indeed a bummer but maybe she can live and learn or if not still get a crack at life with you well done cute pics
  24. just learned of this news fire is unimagined horror what devastation what a cruel fate for those animals so many lost im just numb with the thought of it what a corner to turn in life...who would ever expect this? how do you recover>? in my thoughts....get strong
  25. if my mum were alive id get her a sheltie follow you to the end of the planet and back again over broken glass and lava fur is a bit of a job but not nearly as bad as it looks cos it is rough needs a brush every week or so but not impossible like your maltese iggies no they are heat whores but thats it not a loyal bone in them they will follow the sun and it wont be coming from you unless you got food lol theyre good for winter nights for a snuggle for sure but if you want someone following you about no matter what go for a sheltie maybe even a pom
