I guess the other factor is low shedding important or not .

Did you ask the breeder ? One of the reasons unless in the dogs best interests to follow the diet sheet the breeder gives and marrowbones are the worst for dogs full stop ,full of marrow and to hard on the teeth . Then add another diet change your pups gut is just hit a brick wall and will dehydrate quickly. Go to strict bland pumpkin and Turkey and reintroduce the breeders suggested diet slowly Added with the turfed outside the pup is having the raw end of the deal .

Std Schnauzers are a true working dog ,good temp is due to great owners . yes they are good therapy dogs but that isn’t a given . They need there outlet time and mental stimulation. Soft Coated Wheaton Terriers could work . Petit Bassett Griffen Vendeen. I guess it also comes down to the people it’s needing to cope and an adapt too

Depends on what kind off breeder they are and members off what or members off nothing in relation to orgs . But the very basics vaccination and microchip paperwork .

I think the OP means “ pet only” not pup only . Which means the breeder clearly sold the dog as a pet only not for breeding . Without you health testing you actually can’t claim fully healthy for breeding . Breeding Frenchies is expensive so if the massive price difference shocked you then you better be prepared for the breeding bills and health testing bills .

Yep the implant has been well discussed on many sources . Besides also shrinking testicles lasting longer and fertility issues . I would never ever use it on a breeding animal

Collie Nose (Discoid Lupus Erythematosus DLE)
Dogsfevr replied to Katie32's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I tend to agree I would be trying the steroids to just get on top off it and go from there . They can do a low dose . -
What kind off bowls.Metal,porcelain,plastic. Is the water bowls the same . tags on collars ?. try feeding on a paper .plate, licki mat or on paper towels . We actually boarded a Malt that around age 7 wouldn’t eat from a bowl anymore but on a plastic floor mat

Canine Lymphoma - finding treatment
Dogsfevr replied to Iheartdoggies's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lymphoma progresses quickly . Sadly Berners are high on the list and you have done very well for her to get too 9 yrs . My advice understand the effects the chemo can give your dog, don’t be fooled into the dogs don’t have side effects line as they can . I had a dog with lymphoma, she survived 3 months before it was all too much . She was 3 years . We have no regrets opting for quality memories and enjoyable times . Our vet is very down to earth and made it clear the chemo would not save her and it was very advanced . The vaccine is a great long term hope not sure it’s quite there yet as I own a breed that was used as a priority in the trials due to the higher incidence of this disease . Fingers crossed for the time you have what ever path you decide . -
Reverse sneezing appearing after nose bleed
Dogsfevr replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
Is this the same dog that had teeth removed. Otherwise I would be worried and want further investigation. -
Human emotions is often why dogs get screwed up . All my dogs are taught to be crated overnight because it’s a great tool . vet stays if overnight require a crate unless you use a vet who does free range stays and doesn’t worry about IV’s ,drips, drains, open wounds . Some dogs will destroy things overnight ,I would sooner a dog allowed indoors and crated than turfed outside at bedtime . so surely that comes under life saver, sanity saver, safe place . All our puppies from birth to homing have learnt about safely being contained ,we encourage all our owners to continue crating or penning overnight until puppy has learnt to be safe . Most dogs don’t need to be crated but then often the owners against crating overnight will happily shut them in the laundry for the night and see that is superior . I say if an owner is crating overnight they have there reasons, they may rent, dog may be destructive, still a puppy or it’s simply the best of the alternatives.

Schnauzers shouldn’t have a body odour . This is not normal ,what does the groomer say about the coats
-
Oily is very obvious especially when clipping them . What sort off lotion are you putting on . Yeast can cause these issues so ideally you need decide why . Thyroid issues can cause massive yeast issues . Food, oatmeal shampoos feed the yeast .

No to marrow bone depending on breed may end up with a very sick dog due to the marrow and the bone is too hard on the teeth . You can try stock feeds and stuff for horses to not chew but looks like the wood inside is not functional. May be better to get some aluminium sheeting and attach to that area or even heavy duty rubber

You will be dealing with the excitement and issues for weeks to come . Pup deserves it’s time at pick up and yes as a breeder your dog wouldnt be allowed on the property and I would be annoyed if you just turned up with it . Let the pup deal with the change ,manage the meet n greet at home very simple . pup goes in the backyard when you get home to toilet see the yard and the other family member deals with older dog either going for a walk ,feed time and a slow meet n greet ,no guarantee your older dog will like the pup ASAP

You need to go back to basics and teach self control and re establish yourself as being the high value treat . I would start with walking out the front door establishing the expectations of out the door privileges. I would seriously consider getting one on one help now than going it alone or joining a good obedience class. Look into body awareness videos which teaches handler and dog to work as a team whilst stimulating the brain and easy to set up in the backyard . Sit out the front and reward calm self control behaviour . Out of curiosity did you do puppy school,I often see the low value in humans higher value in other dogs from puppy classes focusing on free for all behaviour and not life skills behaviour .

There is no set price so phone breeders . Dont rush ,find a breeder who has stable natures to start off with . Make sure your prepared to keep the nature and unless looking at a smooth coat please teach it to love grooming . We are one off the many groomers who refuse to groom Chows unless we have meet it or referred by a trusting person , Sadly far too many are grooming aggressive and go to groomers in terrible condition. The last Chow we did took 2 off us 4 hrs to clip off

Buying a puppy - what breed suits best?
Dogsfevr replied to RArlieC's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not a terrier but easy wire coat Petit Basset Griffen Vendeen or Bretagne . The PBGV are great family dogs and enjoy being real in the woods -
Buying a puppy - what breed suits best?
Dogsfevr replied to RArlieC's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have friends who do competitive tracking and lure coursing with there Borders and are great . We have boarded a few and they are delightful dogs very much under estimated. They certainly have there “why should I streak” which is something to factor but as a pet there great little dogs . I was going to suggest Irish Terrier again a fabulous pet but note long legs aren’t your thing .They would be great for bushwalking, cycling -
You used the word ethical multiple times on doing the right thing .The public that read these posts suddenly jump on the band wagon off believing a little bit that people selectively post instead off giving an answer that is educational covers many ethical choices and tough decisions on what is right, what is wrong and offers the best whole picture going forward . Your bold bit is nothing to the rest off your post ,obviously you don’t like clarification ,not my problem .

A good rep vet can tell if a bitch will likely struggle to birth natural . But here’s the deal which evils would you prioritise. #Bitch may not whelp natural #Bitch may not whelp natural but health clearances are stellar and just as important for the bred going forward and pet owners. #Bitch will whelp natural but health clearances are average so pet owner gets a potential time bomb to love . #Bitch will whelp naturally but does not represent the breed in correct nature. #Use average stud dog because he’s friendly . # Use a stud dog with great/clear health tests and produces great natures but is slightly nearly during matings . These are the real questions breeders look at ,in the perfect world they would just get on with it . The problem with these topics and people who get vocal also dont factor anything Some would prefer a natural whelp but who cares about other factors. Luckily good breeders don’t just think that way because bringing dogs into this world happy and healthy relies on many factors with tough choices made .

It often makes wonder if the same thought is placed on females who use ivf .

Will proudly put my hand up and say we do AI and have on 2 occasions opted for elective . My business ,my choice based on the factors that where more important at that moment .Factors can vary from long weekend ,size off the litter ,extreme heatwave and added risk to the bitch based on vet discussions and weighing up the pros and cons . C section is not a convenient cheap choice and a successful c section is based on a good vet practice. There are also issues that can occur with a csection that certainly doesn’t mean easy afterwards . But elective has its place As for AI if you bring a nasty arse bitch for a mating to my dog then you get an AI.Yes some bitches turn into moles . A friend had to retire there top winning bitch after a male bite her ear during mating and it flopped . Dog was stunning, great health, asset to the gene pool but a PIA when mating and had a history off doing this . Owner would have preferred AI had she known. AI is not the end off the world . AI is often better for the bitch stuck underneath especially if the male won’t turn ,would sooner Ai than use a breeding hitch to just get natural hold the bitch in place . Matings here are done with the animals best interest not a human emotion off silliness . Our last 2 litters where standing AI ,quick, simple and successful .
