Depends when in Jan you want to board ,most kennels will still have spots but if you haven't started looking in the next few weeks you will miss out on the good kennels depending on how many runs you want & what area you are looking at boarding in as different zones have different rules on dogs per run & size

I too have had dogs unzip there crates ,the reason i go back to my wires i just like the fact they will still be there when i come back from a toilet break . I have found once they figure out how to unzip it becomes a great game. My big soft crate i still place on a wheelie trolley as its just as akward to carry as my wire

A dog does mean changing your lives & one of the biggest reason dogs get dumped or a no longer wanted because they are a commitment . This is one area we seriously question our puppy owners about . Most people will board there dogs for such events so people need to factor that into there budget ,if people have family or friends then they are lucky . I guess the major question is what amount of time would a dog have with you on weekdays as generally people embrace the weekend for time spent with there dog .

I have soft crates which my dogs are fine in BUT i prefer the safety factor of my wire crates & go back to them most times as there more air flowmeasier to attach water bowl & simply can't destroy them unexpectedly. Weight wise i don't believe there much lighter ,well certainly not my good quality ones . I have a very light weight one my dog won fro BIS the first time used he laid down & rolled out the side as the mesh was crap & not sewn into the fabric well enough luckily he was a dog that just sat there & went WTF . That crate has had all 4 mesh walls replaced as they just fall out & fray / I have the Noz to Noz so can only speak of them but mine are 15 yrs old now & still going strong

Also place puppy on lead & have sit down time with your young children & encourage pup to be clam & quiet a challenge with your child but if you have help start training pup now to be gentle with the little one & it will also help the little ones interact . Helping to brush the puppy at this age is great puppy learns to sit calming & the youngsters can brush puppy down the back . Dogs are creatures of habit when you come home don't let pup in straight away & this includes whether she barks or not . Her if you want pup to come in after being left out the first thing we do is go outside but not to greet pup as such but use it as part of toilet training as an excited pup will often forget to toilet so off we go "pee time : & once pup has weed its rewarded for that good behaviour instead of being told off for barking or left there to just bark ,if we still don't want pup in at that time the door is simply shut again ,we have two yards one with a doggie door access 24/7 & the grass side but if the door is shut then you sit patiently to wait . Your pup will learn but you need to be patient but consistent it is also harder having a winter pup especially if its raining . You can use baby gates if you have them as well so kids ine side puppy the other as it really is important for both parties to have time out & there time . The key is she needs her play time she will grow big quickly & become a powerful dog before you now it & its easier to train at this age then have to do it when there older & set in there ways

Elizabethan Collar Alternatives
Dogsfevr replied to Yonjuro's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Never in 30 yrs of owning dogs & getting them spayedor any surgery actually have we needed to use a collar . Personally i would just have the bucket on hand & see how the dog reacts without it -
I agree with the poster who suggested looking at other options for help . 3 dogs does not guarantee success ,whilst Cavies are very social creatures you have a girl who consider herself well down the pack & the new Cavie may not see her fit into the pack & the new dog may get on better with your older one & not work they way you think it will . If your girl is so reliant on your older one that is how her world works at present changes may mean its hard for her to adapt so iw ould be looking at getting some very sound advice on how to best cope with her in allowing her to be more able to deal with the world ,she may also find a pup all to much for her & an older dog may fit in better

Thankful neighbours don't last forever & bad habits are learnt now challenging yes but you would have known this when taking on the pup so you need to make it work & that means both kids & pup learning the rules What fun activities do you with the pup . Outside shouldn't be about time out or a punishment ,outside is teaching the pup that a whole fun word exists out there where the pup can get some time out from children & have fun . Teaching pup to be independent & happy to play on its own is very important so setting it up now for success means making changes . The same applies to the crate the crate shouldn't be for when your frustrated ,learning to enjoy the crate happens at anytime ,so pup sleeps in crate, pup eats in the crate safely away from the kids .Ours love there crates because its enjoyable for them not the sin bin as such .They feel secure in there crates & will switch off themselves & chill if required to have the door shut BUT the kids need to be taught to not annoy or the crate needs to be placed in a safe area away from the kids . Your pup just wants to play but it isn't acceptable so you need to either step in with a fun toy & encourage pup to play with the right toys & reward . Training isn't about No but about the right options & encouraging it . Chances are it has a certain time its more predisposed to doing this so make a note & plan ahead

In Perth tracking dogs have been used by people to help look for lost dogs ,the tracking people have always been helpful but also honest as to there ability in locating . Around 2 years ago a dog was used to help find a GSP & the tracker dog certainly was able to give an idea of what area it had been in & was sited in those areas it gave hope & some idea ,the dog vanished from that area & was located elsewhere but it gave the owners hope it was still alive . I do now of other cases where dogs have been sent out & given a go

Those knitted ones usually make the dogs itch & the leg holes are to tight especially if they have coat & unless they have back leg elastic the tops don't stay where they should & the knots I would getting one made to fit him or simply buy a comfy coat that covers the sides well & stays where it should
-
Is the dog going to be shown or are you just wanting to retain the normal coat ?? Groomers will do it providing owners are prepared to do maintenance work in between ,they will often charge more & you will need to attend more regular . If your dog has a good coat it is very easy to do it yourself & just roll the coat .

we no longer heartworm treat our dogs BUT when we did we where big believers in giving the right product for the job. All wormer for worms Heartworm only tablet for heartworm Flea/tick treatment if it was ever required (never used the stuff) . We prefer the less is more approach & unfortunately get dogs in boarding whos owners are double dosing there dogs as they don't understand the product or even worse the vet has given the yearly heartworm injection & they not no (how is another story ) & are also giving a monthly heartworm tablet

Super Premium Puppy Kibble - Golden Retriever
Dogsfevr replied to kwirky's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What they do best on means exactly that ,You wouldn't feed a food that they don't thrive on or causes issues . The runs could be from the food or like you say from the garden or any treats or other things , The best beat is to talk with your breeder if your not happy after all the diet suggested is done so for a reason & they now there pups & there breed , My dogs do awful on barf ,poor weight, poor coat, runs ,what i feed they do awesome on but another dog may not -

The best product is what suits your dog & food is only a small part of good health. What did the breeder suggest ? -
Boarded alot over the years varying from the burbs to acres not one worked but all family pets that where wonderful dogs ,very well adjusted . Very few have prior experience or did alot of training & they all worked .No issues with barking . I certainly am not saying everyone should own one but these people had good canine citizens .

For Dolers Who Run Their Own Small Business
Dogsfevr replied to Ivory & Beau's topic in General Dog Discussion
When it comes to dog products it depends on what people you are aiming for . Dog collars is a very tricky area ,as a breeder & most breeders we suggest products to our pet owners that are pratical, safe & value for money & that will be above all comfy for the dog to wear. From our boarding kennel/salon side of business we often have to tell clients to buy new collars as the ones they have brought are causing issues for the dogs & aren't safe . There are plenty of other places in Perth that sell products online & plenty Aussie wide so i wouldn't say its limited in Perth it just depends on who you now & who people ask . I buy dog products online all the time but i now what i want & why i should have it & i buy worldwide . I prefer overseas as the prices are better even with postage so to buy in Australia it would have to be same price . -
We board alot of diabetic dogs these days, its becoming more & more common sadly . Besides all thats listed make sure to inform realiable people that your dog has this issue incase of emergencies .Make sure all family members are on the same page regarding her new life needs. As mentioned given that sight can be affected make a point of setting her up for success for when the vision goes as it can be very sudden . Set up mutli water bowls ,if she isn't use to a basket on the floor get one now & allow her to get use to it & encourage alot of independence, don't pamper her now she needs to be self confident . With our dogs whose sight was starting to go we use runners so they new what there feet where feeling & that it took them to a location

My Large breed puppies are taught playing with other dogs is a privelage . I tend to find puppies that have been to free for all puppy school or offleash parks have the worst manners when it comes to play time . My dogs weigh far more than yours but i guess the difference is they don't see another dog & expect to play with it or act silly ,my big dogs must lay down to say hello to little dogs & introduce themselves respectably ,if they can't then they don't get to play

You can do tracking . What is his hip score ??

HD & that sort of game is not what i would be doing just because he hasn't limped before doesn't mean hes not hurt or hes tweaking the joints when doing that exercise & today was the first big sign of this game may not be suitable . Given his breed i tend to find Staffys notorious for a very high pain tolerance & owners not always seeing the small signs
