Your dog your responsibility to be happy with how strangers interact .Your request is very sensible but some people seem to think wrestling dogs is normal until the game doesn't end fun & yes like you encouraging good sound manners is important

Many dogs also dislike the noises Frenchies make with there snorting/snuffling .They can be very forward dogs that owners often say there friendly but Frenchies can be fiesty little critters when pushed . I have handled them in the ring & there a breed that people often treat like little Foofoo dogs when there not ,they make wonderful pets but like all dogs there animals that need to be loved as a dog but be part of the family . I think the most obvious scenario is it stays on lead ,if you have no control why risk your dog ,you have actually taught your dog this behaviour is correct by allowing it to happen each time,he thinks its right when its not & he shows little respect for you when called. Training is a start but remember it really is common sense ,your lead is your best friend & your dogs safety net,to come off that lead is a privelage & there is certain behaviors that come with that privilege

In WA we don't have to sell with papers BUT all pups must be registered . Simply ask the breeder for there prefix & membership # (i presume with dogsVic) easy to check . The problem is the word "registered " it could mean DogsVic or the parents are council registered , The breeder can also show there membership card which has these details

Supplement Suggestions For Young Dog.
Dogsfevr replied to Steph M's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Some things i still wouldn't expect from a 1 yr old large breed. Strong comes with age he is still very young. Energy some have it some don't Coat depends on how well you brush out the dead coat Swimming is great but depending on where it can play havoc with coats especially if the water isn't washed off . He may also be changing coat at present & getting a thicker undercoat for winter but im not a believer in supplements would sooner address what i feed & the products i use first off -
How Long Did It Take For You To Be Ready For Another Dog?
Dogsfevr replied to ro11's topic in General Dog Discussion
never had an issue getting a new one,i am never replacing what i lost & would never dream of thinking that way new dog new beginning . When we have potential puppy owners come out who have recently lost a dog we pay attention to what they say & how they interact & will say we have refused to sell a pup to a few people because they kept on comparing the puppies to what they lost in a unhealthy way & it was obvious a new pup/dog would not enjoy its life there until they where able to deal with the loss of there previous dog -
Pup needs to go outside to toilet ,cold outside means nothing what you train now you train for life .Canine cough doesn't mean he can't go outside to toilet & he is better to go out on the lawn than hang on to long & end up with bladder issues . Many pups will not toilet in there sleeping area & we find many don't like puppy pads . I would suggest just popping pup outside to toilet quickly & with fuss or stress unless you want to teach pup to use an indoor toilet down the track?? If you want the indoor toilet option then set it up properly now if you want pup to toilet outside then stick that method now because it becomes to confusing for pup to understand what you what & when especially if ine few weeks time you will then change the toilet plan again to outside . If you are concerned aboy placing pup outside to toilet then go buy some rolled turf & place in a tray & teach pup to use that inside

Using Texta As Sun Protection
Dogsfevr replied to katiegrrl88's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think i would go down the logical path of sunscreen for sun protection, I gather its a small area lacking in pigment & use texta can be used to blend the colour but never heard any vet suggest it for sun protection . -
What Checkups Do You Perform When Preparing For Pups?
Dogsfevr replied to GABBA's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We ultra sound to confirm pregnancy so we now simply because we run our own business & block off a week to care for pups ,if not pregnant then we can re open that week. Everything else is simple common sense & knowing your bitch -
If i was paying someone then i would expect them to be insured & have clearances as its a paid job ,i would also expect a contract on expectations & costs . I would still want a contract even if no money is exchanged so all parties are aware of what is expected & can't be done etc etc.

Recommendations For An Ear Cleaner
Dogsfevr replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ear hair shouldn't make any difference ,I have owned hairy ear breeds for years & ear infections aren't common. We don't wash out ears just because . If she is getting infections then you need to address why. Food, Other dogs licking the ears Are the dogs back feet treated at the same time?(dogs scratch there ears so we suggest people treat the feet as well ) What sort of infection is it . -
Ideally you should ask your breeder & your puppy vacc card will tell you this infor . As for doubling up a Vacc i have never heard anyone say this Alot depends on what the trainer means about "start exercising" ?? Does he mean little walks out the front for lead training & seeing the world or something else. All my large breed pups walk on lead to the house next door from 8 weeks, they get to see cars & anything esle out the front,we also wonder around the front garden & sit there . Again though your breeder would have discussed exercising the pup

How nails grow tells you so much about your dog ,if its one foot then i would say there is some altered movement there . Like with older draws who tend to drag there bag legs wear there nails differently again . This is one thing i always check on our dogs as i now if there nails differ its time for Bowen

Breeding For "performance", Not Show
Dogsfevr replied to JRT Lover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Many showdogs are dual purpose ,the only issue i have in performance dog breeding only is when you can no longer recognize the breed as for many the breeders don't care about the looks just how they work & many will forgo many breed specific traits to do so .I now in my breed it is often hard to tell what some of them are in the working lines ,they have become so tiny & weedy that they no longer fit the bill for the "breed Standard" but have been breed to exaggerated standards to suit the field world of faster is better instead of incorporating the whole package & essence of what the breed is , In the JR world there is a person with very competitive JR that are show lines that do flyball(national level) ,agility & TV roles but the trainer completes the package .He works with about 4/6 on his team ,Still look like JR,great natures, biddable & fit into a frenzied dog environment without going crazy & easy to live with . I would love to do both but like many i don't have the time to dedicate to field work in the small season you have we run a business 24/7 all year round but my dogs breeder do compete in dog sports & my guys are from highly titled dogs .They also have dogs out in pet homes that are competing in varying activities so there is beauty & brains in there lines & yep the best of both worlds but they are also loving family pets which is also important when pups have to go to homes & working/more intense pups can often need special owners to keep there brains amused when you decide to breed for particular traits ,it truly needs to be the whole package & who ends up owning them & above all the breeders being honest about the differences & ensuring people understand that sadly something the is often not explained in my breed & the new owners first experience is not a pleasant one for them & the dog . Not all states also offer the titles one may seek in there breed so some states may have more titled dogs compared to another simply due to that state not alllowed to hold those tests .Earthdog titles aren't held here nor do we have lure coursing titles but many dogs could fit the bill -
When Does Weight Gain Become Significant?
Dogsfevr replied to Scottsmum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We see the fattest dogs from now on in boarding/grooming people don't change the quantities or because they don't walk as much the feel guilty & give more treats . I don't see it an issue you have identified he has put a tad on so just adjust accordingly . Our dogs food intact varies from season to season & the exercise regime heavy or low -
The giant Liberty table is good & i prefer the rubber they use (unless they have changed it ) you can make your own easily aswell

Many dog attacks is simply due to sheer stupidity . Breeds have characteristics & there is variables within that . People can certainly make or break who well a dog can thrive ,see that all to often ,dogs aren't humans . People also often think you can buy breed A & turn its temp into breed B & that doesn't work either. When you buy a breed you buy it because you love the whole package it brings & its unique breed characteristics that come with it & need to be trained to that dog & breed . I also think many Obedience clubs have gone mad with there nice nice approach & to many people give up on good training because the methods they preach don't suit every breed ,individual dog & some trainers won't also think out side the basket As for Pitbulls we use to baord alot before the new rules came in & they where the one breed we never ever had issues with so of the best dogs we boarded infact .

Being Asked For A Pet Related Donation
Dogsfevr replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
Charities & asking for donations has gone over the top now in all fields that it truly puts you off & many of the staff asking are simply the rudest people out if you say no. So many people do get scammed when donations are being asked so i get why people say that. It comes down to these places making the public more aware that they exist without it being a money spinner at the same time . When people can discuss a subject without there being strings attached its educational . I loath shop booths asking for money & hate the fact that every corner you turn someone wants money & then you get bombarded with phone calls & donate once with your details & they never stop phoning -
Blade Sharpener Anyone? Please...
Dogsfevr replied to Perfumed Lillium's topic in General Dog Discussion
Featherdale in Vic (i think thats the name ) Do you wash the blades regularly & are the coats dirty ?/Also have you changed the tohgue on the clipper head as that can affect the blades working ability too -
You won't have a long wait for a Yank at all ,breed regularly in all states by good breeders ,you may have to wait if you want a certain colour but easy to get a Yank . In Yanks bathing is the easy part its the scissoring that requires a good teacher & a dedication each week

The wandere hub is the BCF .Rays one that is tent material which i have used to camp in BUT i place my second oz trail over the top . The other nubs cost alot more & are designed for bad weather & BCF have them to

I owned & showed Americans for many years ,love the breed but yes showing & coat work each week is a big commitment & having a mentor to help you groom is a must . Cockers & are still a big commitment for coat work & Cavies are aswell but certainly less than the othe two but keeping the coat white is all part of weekly coat work . I would suggest going to shows & seeing all three breeds in show coats & doing lots of talking . All 3 breeds require health testing & have there own issues . Americans tend to be ore full on than Cockers in one way but very easy to live with ,train & great with kids ,I will say though the Parti colours can be slightly different in nature & would suggest a solid colour

Bad poodles or bad owners?? Board & groom plenty of Poodles from families with kids/grandkids without any issues, there also used alot in the ring by junior handlers . The ones that we have had that where insecure where due to owners who would create the same from any breed of dog . I will say the ones we have had issues are Bichons but again due to people wanting a hand bag breed not treating them with the respect they deserve & that is a dog . We board alot of Soft Coats & they are super dogs & all with family pets ,even the ones i showed in my early years where so easy going & they where used as Juniors dogs aswell & owned by older people & they never saw kids It all comes down to the owners of any dog & breed .

We had two Bedlingtons & they where great dogs but don't be fooled by the lamb appearance ,they can be fire crackers but also great dogs . I think of the of the breeds listed i would go Beddie then Poodle, not a fan of the Lagotto just don't seem to do much for me ,Boston is like picking chalk & cheese to the others
