Maybe consider an indoor toilet for her ,whilst im not a real fan of these i do now many toy breeds do very well using this method & giving she goes on a bed or rug maybe this could be a solution .Obviously this wont solve the over night thing. I will say friends have Chis & some of them are the hardest to toilet train & they will go where ever . Some are indoor toilet trained & do great & others are spotless & go outside in all weather . I find with the Chi's i have been around they just don't give the signs to want to go & don't make an effort to hang on but i would go back to square one & give it a try . When she goes outside does she go on the grass ??

Feeding Coconut In Non Oil Form

Never melt mine -
yes you need to retrain her ,it is her normal to go inside ,if she didn't make the effort to tell you whilst in the house she won't in a crate . Also kennel dog doesn't equate to a dirty dog ,our kennel dogs will never soil in there kennel & from a boarding kennel point of view you have those dogs that are spotless & wait to be let out & those that will toilet anywhere anytime & make no effort because its there normal . Does she have free access outside during the day or do you let her out ??

We are like Clyde there are breeds or combos we will no longer groom & Mals /Mal crosses are one of them .All groomers will be able to house them its just there polite way of saying no From history they come in in bad coat condition /untrained & simply not worth the money to do them & yes your body suffers bigtime afterwards & alot of Groomers are now picking what they groom due to past history, hard for people with those breeds but 40 kg of untrained /unco operative dog just isn't worth the time . The tools a groomer uses you can easily buy yourself & brush out the dog more often & in shorter bursts . We don't use industrial tools we just do the job fully because we have too , Try WA grooming academy they are SOR but train students in grooming so it seems they take all sorts of dogs for experience or they may have one of the past students on that side of the river

If there the breeds your interested in then its a list of chalk & cheese . Every breed has its negativ & any puppy purchaser should be aware of them BUT some sites on the net are often misleading or over dramatic or give out incorrect info in the whole scheme of things or are created by people who actually have no real clue . I would imagine the NBT issue is a breeder that solely breeds natural bobs to natural bobs generation after generation Then yes that is an issue but no sane breeder would breed that way . All shedding dogs need brushing ,an Aussie would need just as much brushing as a westie ,they coat may shed differently but matts/dags occur on both so need breed is easier in that regard . Matted pants on breed like Aussies & goldies are because people say they heavily shed & will fall out it doesnt . I agree to to some shows & look at breeds or look on the breed pages on this site & see what breeds you like the look off & go from there

When it comes to roaming cats its a pickle ,our dogs wouldn't play nicely but by the same token roaming cats aren't my problem if they enter my yard where my dogs are safely contained then i can't do much more It frustrates me no end when people allow there cats to torment our dogs or jump in our yard.luckily here we don't have that issue BUT by the same token saying to your neighbour my dogs may not like your cat is admitting something i wouldn't want . If you where to approach the subject then think carefully how you word it ^ its sad that we have to think this way because it isn't fair on the cat or your dogs or yourself

Have they considered Spondylosis of the neck ?? I had a dog with spondo & whilst it wasn't in his neck he suffered greatly from neck tightness, lameness in the front, took alot of convincing to get the vets to consider it . Funnily enough his best treatment was bowen & it took alot of work to sort his neck muscles out & its pianful

I don't think i would send a letter out like the example you have given ,for me its saying my dogs could be a pain ,they havea history & where still tying so be warned. We have moved alot with dogs & never told our neighbours anything ,most had no clue we had dogs as they where quiet & not an issue . If you wish to inform them then i would be doing like Cowanbree & given a card with contact details incase anything odd happens but i wouldn't be going into any detail about settling in periods or anything else . I also wouldn't be saying anything until you have moved in & got a feel for how the dogs may react whilst your home . If people are going to complain they will often because most people take issues with being told there dogs are badly behaved i think people accept new neighbours with pets when they see you being pro active & responsible & that often opens up talk more

Like everything its research BUT also looking at the dogs ,there temps & how they interact with general public. House raised doesn't guarantee any more better than kennel raised & i think people shouldn't fall into the trap of just presuming one way means a better pup . Its also unrealistic to compare a small breed litter to a large breed litter where by 5 weeks the needs are very different. Free roaming a property can simply mean we have lots of space so never need to take them out ,it could mean our dogs are very active & high need & may not suit the average backyard pet . I now plenty of BC whose pups are raised in the house then go to the kennels super pets that do well in all fields with a stable mind & enjoyable to live with . Like already mentioned buying a health tested dog is a no brainer if they want a pup with some guarantees not to be afflicted with issues that are testable . Then it would be the dogs ease to interact with mi can tell you now some of the best dogs i have been around may not come from the frilly & fancy place some may expect . For me there is more to now about the dogs, breeder & there pups than it lives on the couch & yes our pups are raised in the house BUT you still have to make the same effort to give them enrichment than those raised outside . The key is people can right any words to make you think awesome so its important to check out what is fact from fiction & what each breeder offers in support & knowledge

Depends when in Jan you want to board ,most kennels will still have spots but if you haven't started looking in the next few weeks you will miss out on the good kennels depending on how many runs you want & what area you are looking at boarding in as different zones have different rules on dogs per run & size

I too have had dogs unzip there crates ,the reason i go back to my wires i just like the fact they will still be there when i come back from a toilet break . I have found once they figure out how to unzip it becomes a great game. My big soft crate i still place on a wheelie trolley as its just as akward to carry as my wire

A dog does mean changing your lives & one of the biggest reason dogs get dumped or a no longer wanted because they are a commitment . This is one area we seriously question our puppy owners about . Most people will board there dogs for such events so people need to factor that into there budget ,if people have family or friends then they are lucky . I guess the major question is what amount of time would a dog have with you on weekdays as generally people embrace the weekend for time spent with there dog .

I have soft crates which my dogs are fine in BUT i prefer the safety factor of my wire crates & go back to them most times as there more air flowmeasier to attach water bowl & simply can't destroy them unexpectedly. Weight wise i don't believe there much lighter ,well certainly not my good quality ones . I have a very light weight one my dog won fro BIS the first time used he laid down & rolled out the side as the mesh was crap & not sewn into the fabric well enough luckily he was a dog that just sat there & went WTF . That crate has had all 4 mesh walls replaced as they just fall out & fray / I have the Noz to Noz so can only speak of them but mine are 15 yrs old now & still going strong

Also place puppy on lead & have sit down time with your young children & encourage pup to be clam & quiet a challenge with your child but if you have help start training pup now to be gentle with the little one & it will also help the little ones interact . Helping to brush the puppy at this age is great puppy learns to sit calming & the youngsters can brush puppy down the back . Dogs are creatures of habit when you come home don't let pup in straight away & this includes whether she barks or not . Her if you want pup to come in after being left out the first thing we do is go outside but not to greet pup as such but use it as part of toilet training as an excited pup will often forget to toilet so off we go "pee time : & once pup has weed its rewarded for that good behaviour instead of being told off for barking or left there to just bark ,if we still don't want pup in at that time the door is simply shut again ,we have two yards one with a doggie door access 24/7 & the grass side but if the door is shut then you sit patiently to wait . Your pup will learn but you need to be patient but consistent it is also harder having a winter pup especially if its raining . You can use baby gates if you have them as well so kids ine side puppy the other as it really is important for both parties to have time out & there time . The key is she needs her play time she will grow big quickly & become a powerful dog before you now it & its easier to train at this age then have to do it when there older & set in there ways

Elizabethan Collar Alternatives
Dogsfevr replied to Yonjuro's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Never in 30 yrs of owning dogs & getting them spayedor any surgery actually have we needed to use a collar . Personally i would just have the bucket on hand & see how the dog reacts without it -
I agree with the poster who suggested looking at other options for help . 3 dogs does not guarantee success ,whilst Cavies are very social creatures you have a girl who consider herself well down the pack & the new Cavie may not see her fit into the pack & the new dog may get on better with your older one & not work they way you think it will . If your girl is so reliant on your older one that is how her world works at present changes may mean its hard for her to adapt so iw ould be looking at getting some very sound advice on how to best cope with her in allowing her to be more able to deal with the world ,she may also find a pup all to much for her & an older dog may fit in better

Thankful neighbours don't last forever & bad habits are learnt now challenging yes but you would have known this when taking on the pup so you need to make it work & that means both kids & pup learning the rules What fun activities do you with the pup . Outside shouldn't be about time out or a punishment ,outside is teaching the pup that a whole fun word exists out there where the pup can get some time out from children & have fun . Teaching pup to be independent & happy to play on its own is very important so setting it up now for success means making changes . The same applies to the crate the crate shouldn't be for when your frustrated ,learning to enjoy the crate happens at anytime ,so pup sleeps in crate, pup eats in the crate safely away from the kids .Ours love there crates because its enjoyable for them not the sin bin as such .They feel secure in there crates & will switch off themselves & chill if required to have the door shut BUT the kids need to be taught to not annoy or the crate needs to be placed in a safe area away from the kids . Your pup just wants to play but it isn't acceptable so you need to either step in with a fun toy & encourage pup to play with the right toys & reward . Training isn't about No but about the right options & encouraging it . Chances are it has a certain time its more predisposed to doing this so make a note & plan ahead
