  1. When you are home take her outside all of the time. Whne not at home leave her a newspaper area. Because you will be leaving her for so long alone the newspaper area can't be avoided. If you were at home I would say forget the newspaper and take her outside all of the time. 9 hours is a very long time to leave a little puppy alone. Can you have someone come over during the day? How do you plan to feed her three meals a day? Make sure she has something that smells like you when you leave her. A towl/rug that you have slept on etc. I would only give her a few toys at once. Change them around every so often so that she doesn't get bored of them. DO NOT GIVE RAWHIDE STICKS, PIGS EARS ETC!!!!! They are easily choked on so you could be coming home to a dead puppy at the end of your wokring day. They are also full of fat and nasty chemicals. How are you going to feed her three times a day if you are not home? I have fed 7 week old pups bones and other breeders here have started even earlier. If youa re wanitng to feed bones then make sure you use that as one meal a day or make the other 3 meals smaller to compenstate. Again puppies can be fed sardines at a very early age. Just watch out as they can give some dogs the runs. She will chew if she is bored and when teething. Provide her toys to chew and tell her off if you catching her chewing something she shouldn't be.
  2. Is he a show dog? If not I wouldn't worry about them.
  3. Most boarding kennels wont board dogs that haven't had KC vaccinations. Those that do require Titre Tests. Vaccinate a least two weeks before.
  4. What breed? People have the perception that pugs should be fat which is very wrong.
  5. Scratching. Revolution kills and prevents them.
  6. She is fed a mixter of meats that we get discounted from the deli at our supermarket, cooked and mixed in with vegetables. Not a good idea to feed meat without bone, it is a very unbalanced diet. Get her onto some raw meaty bones. Chicken necks or minced chicken carcuss (dog or puppy mince), sardines, omega oil and even some Evening Primrose Oil.
  7. Poor bloke. Looks more like knuckling (Carpal Laxity Syndrome) like Erny's dog rather then premature growth plate closure like mplsv's dog & my ex foster girl. Knuckling is cause by incorrect diet so can be reversed whilst the puppy is still growing with good food. But this guy looks way beyond his puppy years so nothing would really help.
  8. Yes. Chemist can buy in bulk so the can sell drugs cheaper.
  9. With early growth plate closure most likely yes. Remember in this condition only one of the growth closes prematurely in the radius. The other growth plates in the ulnar don't close untill they normally are supposed to, around 12 to 13 months in a smaller breed like this. The severity of the deformity really has to do with how much growing was left to be done when the growth plate closed. (basically how much longer the ulnar is compared to the deformed radius) Poppy also came into rescue knuckling like your dog Erny, but her's was more like she was standing on her tippy toes. I got her onto a diet of minced chicken carcusses, food processed veggies, yoghurt and RMB and made sure I weighed her every few days so that I was only feeding 10% of her body weight daily.
  10. Diet is not going to really help your girl. If she was knuckling it would but if her growth plate has closed then nothing is going to change it. The only thing you need to do is not let her get to fat as that is going to put extra pressure on her bones. mplsv what state are you in? I think that you should monitor the progress of the deformity untill she stops growing. She may never get as bad as her legs flippering out so may not need surgery. If she does flipper out then surgery is usually performed just after they have stopped growing. I have Poppy's pre and post surgery xrays that I have been meaning to post online.
  11. What is she fed? Changing a dogs diet can change their hair. What shampoo is used?
  12. I am pretty sure that they can use the female incontinance drug for males with some success. Does he go to the toilet on command? If he does then take him out last thing at night and get him to go so there is less there overnight.
  13. Chicken necks, lamb flaps, kangaroo tails, lamb necks, turkey necks, whole fish. These are all good raw meaty bones to include in your dogs diet. Did the lamb chops you gave have lots of fat on them? Were they cooked?
  14. Yes absolutley fine to grab them by the hair and skin on the back of their neck. Mother dogs do so with their pups to move them around. I have been picking up a 5kg pug, by the scruff of the neck, to move her around many times a day. She doesn't care. I pick my 9kg pug up by the scruff if he is fighting with his sister. They have suffered no damage.
  15. Antihistamine. Clean in Phisohex (human pimple facewash). Apply zinc oxide cream (such as baby nappy rash cream Curash). If it's gone to far he may need antibiotics or at least an antibiotic cream. Could well be a staph infection.
  16. Then she is not asleep and just being a dominant little bitch. Either remove her from the couch and don't allow her back up for a certain period telling her that she is a 'bad girl' or do the time out in a room or outside. You have to show her that you are the boss. Others may suggest that she might be sore somewhere. Check her all over for sore points.
  17. Sounds like two completley different circumstances here. One sounds like she is just dreaming whilst asleep and sounds pretty normal. Puppies and adults dogs will often yip, growl and twitch whilst asleep. I wouldn't be moving her if she is asleep and doing this. The other one sound slike she is being a little dominant bitch whilst awake. Grab her by the scruff of the neck and put her in a time out room, like the toilet or laundry, telling her that she is a naughty girl as you do so. Leave her in the time out room for at least 5 minutes.
  18. That is what was wrong with Poppy. Her diagnosis was 'Premature closure of the distal radial physis resulting in a short radius with antebrachiocarpal and radiohumeral subluxation in LFL' Basically the radius stopped growing but the ulnar didn't. Her's was so bad she walked around on it like a seals flipper so surgery really was necessary. Her surgeon performed an operation where the ulnar and radius were both cut in half. From the ulnar, bone was taken and put into the radius to lengthen it. A metal plate with screws was then attached to the radius with screws going through it to the seperate bones the ulnar now is. It's not a cheap operation.
  19. You should wait till they are at least 16 weeks till you let them walk around in public. At 8 weeks they have only had one immunisation injection. With the usual vacciantion proticol they need another 2 with the last being at 16 weeks. Please refrain from walking her in places that you have no idea of the other dogs that have been ther and letting her socialise with other dogs that you have no idea of their vacciantion records. At 8 weeks your pup is prime target for Parvo.
  20. Yay for Penny. Was the vet able to diagnose when he took the lumpy thing off or is it being sent for test?
  21. For those of you that have a perfectly healthy dog that eats grass what diet do you feed? If you do feed fruit & vegies what are they and are they whole or food processed?
  22. ermmm these are 'bush' working dogs They wouldn't know a carrot if they saw one. I am happy to grate it up and mix it in food if it will help. But food is food no matter what sort of dog you are. I have been thinking of doing a poll on this topic. Asking if your dog does eat grass, and has no medical problems, do you feed food processed veggies. I have a feeling that the majority of dogs that eat grass don't get veggies & fruit in thier normal diet.
