Do you take your dog to socalise with other Kelpies? Perhaps if you found a social group of Kelpies or a fun day organise by the Australian Kelpie Club of NSW you could take your dog there and compare his breathing etc to the other Kelpies. AUSTRALIAN KELPIE CLUB of NSW Sec Ph:02- 6345 5810 Mobile: 0438 239 008 Are you still in contact with the breeder of your dog? Perhaps you could go and visit them and compare your dogs breathing with their dogs.

The last young pups I had would take about an hour to eat their little lamb bones so don't worry if she takes ages to get through the chicken wing.
-
Does he sound like he is struggling to breath? Did your vet check for an enlarged soft pallet? Did the vet check his heart? Does he pant at any other times other thne hard exercise?
-
The script would be for Ruthless's dog not for Ruthless so her medicare card does not come into play unless the vet somehow became a human doctor with a human prescription pad and made the prescription out to Ruthless. Yes the drug may be on the PBS for people with medicare cards but if you don't have a medicare care, which animals do not, then you pay a non-PBS price. This might help explaining why vets charge more. Previous Medication Topic

Oh so PBS is for all creatures great and small now?
-
Wrong. The PBS does not cover drugs that are prescibed to animals through chemists. Last time I looked animals do not have a medicare card or pension or health care cards.
-
I would think that basically it cost more for vets to purchase the prescribed drugs as they can't buy them in bulk like most chemists do.

:D Well come on now she can't be slow if she thinks Chum is a good food to feed.

Annual Check Ups - How Much Much & What Done

$75 for C5 and check which includes listening to heart, breathing, feeling around their internal organs & quick check of eyes, ears & teeth. They also enquire about the general health as well. -
Yes please don't feed only normal mince as puppys/dogs need both meat & bone otherwise you can cause all sort of problems. Find some puppy/dog mince which is minced chicken carcuss and feed this as your main other source of food if you are also feeding dry food. You can find puppy mince at most Lenards. You have to ask for it because it is kept out the back.

maf are the puppies skinny or just small for their age? There is a big difference. Your dogs have obviously come from a BYB or PF so it is very very likely that they have been badly bred. It is quite possible that the mother was bred on her first heat at to young of an age and apart from not being finished growing herself she was not fed the appropriate food whilst pregnant so her pups were malnourished whilst in the womb and then whilst feeding from her. It is also more thne likely that the person who bred the pups fed them totally inappropriate food once there were weaned. All of this resulting in puppies small for their age. I would get rid of the tinned food and pet roll and feed minced chicken carcuss. If your puppies continue to eat and gain weight every week then I wouldn't worry about them being small.

If you dog has broken infected skin from scratching then it is more then likely that it needs to see a vet to treat the infection. I would not be bathing an itchie dog 3 times a day as you will just be further drying out the skin and removing any of the oils that can help with itchiness. Also take a good look at your dogs diet. PS. Trish perhaps you should be posting topics like this in the health section as it is not really puppy related.

Border Collie Hip Dysplasia

I would seriously reconsider getting the surgery done by Wing Tip Wong. He is very very highly regarded by his peers and is an orthopedic & neurosurgeon so deals with these things every day. He is also a perfectionist. Where another perosn operating might be happy with something being off by 1cm Wing Tip is not and will try something else to make sure it is perfect. Can I ask what made you consider other vets? -
Pug X Cav With Drinking Fettish
puggy_puggy replied to Mushaka's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What do you feed? I know that pugs that are fed dry food drink a hell of alot more water then those on a raw diet. I have come across some younger dogs that like to play in their drinking water when they drink it. Which is a massive pain for the water bowls inside the house. -
Give them time and they will bond. Do not fuss over their behaviour. Bailey will drink when he/she needs to so do not make a fuss over water bowls either. Cotton should be fed three times a day and if she hasn't finished her food within ten minutes take it away till the next meal. Do not let her graze through the day. If you are wanting to feed fresh food it should not be cooked. It should be mainly made up of raw meaty bones. Do some research on BARF, Raw & Prey Mode feeding.

Um isn't someone telling you what they would do advice? As everyone else has said your first posting paints a very different situation to the second one. From the first posting I also presumed the dog was being a little brat and trying to dominate it's owners but now with the extra information it does sound like he is peeing with excitment rather then peeing to dominate. But then again I have seen dogs start to hump other dogs when they get very worked up and I see humping as a form of dominance. So the dog in question could be peeing as a form of dominance but it is triggered by over excitment rather then purely the need to dominate. Perhaps the cocking of the leg occurs because he senses the need to pee and when he pees normally he cocks his leg?

Clementine had dental work done again last week. Two teeth removed and a clean. The cost was $412 So in two years the cost has gone up $20.
-
How much are fillings and capping? I know that normal dental including cleaning and removal is up to $400.

What time are you last taking him out to the toilet? And what time are you letting him out in the morning? At 5 months he should be able to hold through the night. With the last pups I had I would take them out for their last toilet break at about 11pm and then at 6am.
-
Yes they can make some dogs get the runs. But no matter if a dog gets the runs from sardines or is fine with them I fail to see how they would have an negative impact on it's anal glands.

House Broken Dog Now Being Incontenent

RIP Ethan. -
I would be adding some harder raw meaty bones to his diet. A lamb neck, backbone or flap at least once a week. You can also add fibre with pulped veggies and/or flaxseed oil. Why would the vet suggest cutting out sardines and eggs. Silly vet. When you feed the egg you should also feed the shell. I put mine through the food processor when I make up the veggie/fruit slops.

Dogs cope fine with a few teeth missing. Untill a vet gets your dog under GA and has a good look around you wont know for sure if the tooth is saveable.

Mmmm yet another unethical breeder booting their puppy out to it's new home at a far to young age. So sad for the puppies and the people who are conned into buying them. Keds ethical registered breeders will not let their pups go to new homes before they are 8 weeks old. As for sitting for treats. Are you standing at the time you are offering her the treat? If you are kneeling it is more then likely your puppy thinks that you are wanting to play so try standing.
