  1. Puppys from reputable breeders do not leave for their new homes untill they are at least 8 weeks of age. Puppy vaccinations are: 7 weeks 12 weeks 16 weeks Many believe that if a puppy is vaccinated before the age of 7 weeks the vaccination has no affect as the puppies immune system is not developed enough to start producting antibodies in reaction to the injection. This is probably why your vet has told you that your puppy should be treated as if thye have not been vaccinated at all. Edited because I am going nutty.
  2. Poor girl. Did the vet give her any steroids? This is usually the inital treatment and then it's just time so that the body can recover. Has she previously had ear infections?
  3. The product probably made the sensitive skin sting. I would think the product is ment to go on the back of the neck due to it being tougher skin, the dog can not lick the area and quite possibly the area has a greater oil production then other parts of the body.
  4. I would only do C5 for his next vaccination. C7 is overkill. How old is he now?
  5. Positive vibes for your boy. How old is he? I suspect your vet will be xraying his trachea to check if it is collapsing.
  6. I spend about $35 for two months worth of veggies & fruit slops that I make up. About $16 on chicken necks that last two months or so. About $5 a month on bones. About $5 a month on offal. About $3.50 a month on sardines. About $5 a month on kangaroo mince. About $10 a month on othe meat. So all up cost about $53.50 a month to feed two pugs.
  7. Glad you have been to the vets. I was going to say that I would be worried about her keeping her eye closed as that would not be a sign of cataracts more like her eye was sore from something. Which it has turned out to be.
  8. Some websites that may be useful for your new dog/puppy search Humbolt. www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/list.asp www.cccq.org.au www.petrescue.com.au
  9. Are you supervising meal times? If so then you are not being a very good pack leader if you are letting your boy go and eat your new pups food. When she is old enough to stand up for herself big fights could occur if you boy isn't taught that it is not acceptable to go and steal his sisters food. Either.... - feed them seperately - get a puppy pen and feed her in the pen - stand between your two dogs whilst they are eating and tell your boy off if he moves from his bowl. Squirting with a water spray is useful.
  10. What are you wanting the dairy for? Extra calcium?
  11. Ohh yucky. Was the vet able to get a clean margin? Are there follow up tests and treatment that Sophie is going to have?
  12. Or just putting her somewhere else when you eat.
  13. Hopefully it's nothing. Could be just a lump that has cropped up due to trauma of the teeth rubbing against it.
  14. Hopefully it is nothing westielover and he really just does have cross eyes.
  15. Poor boy. Keep him at home with you. Dogs know when they are in a good place. Try and get a sample of his urine before you go to the vets so that they can test it for UTI. I am fearing cancer when you say he has started losing weight and is a Rottie X.
  16. She is a cross so no way you can predict her looks or behaviour. cocker spaniel cross poodle (apparently 3/4 cocker spaniel and 1/4 poodle) When people cross dogs you can't say it is half this and half that or a quater this and a quater that as genetics do not work that way. At 9 months of age I would be also getting her to the vets for desexing quick smart. After paying $300 for her are you prepared to pay another $200 to $300 for her to be desexed? I would suggest you meet the dog first and see how she fits into your family.
  17. RIP Lucy. Take care of yourself Bellatrix. I am sure you are still in shock.
  18. ;) You don't put them in the blender, the dogs need to chew on the bone. Geez. Do you think dogs in the wild had blenders????111?111?1 Ofcourse they did, you duffer. They bought the blenders in the same place they bought the can openers and frozen spinach...and bottle opener for the chianti Oh but you forgot about the mini microwaves they purchased at the shop as well so that they can defrost and cook their spinach. laeral - I put a bunch of spinach into the 10 or so litres slops that I make up everytime.
  19. I think he just doesn't understand what to do with bones. At what age did you first give him a bone? Ho wlong do you leave him to try and eat the bone? For example. The last foster pug I had here was around 7 months old and obviously had never had a real bone in her life. She knew exaclty that she had to use her feet to chew on the Nylabone toys but the first time I presented her with a lamb flap she had no idea what to do with it only that it did seem like it smelt yummy. She took twice the amount of time as the other pugs to eat it as she didn't realise that you are supposed to use your feet to help tear bits off bones. She ate it by having it hang out of her mouth and chew on it. Slowly, whilst she was with me, she started to learn how to really eat a bone.
  20. I see you nasty people have been havin fun without me. Where were you guys last night when this thread first started when I needed entertainment ?
  21. I chop mine up with a tomahawk, buy them whole and then chop them up into smaller sizes so she can have a piece every day rather than one every 3 days and nothing in between. Yeah I tried the meat cleaver and that didn't work so got out a saw and managed to saw through the bone but it was a disgusting thing to do.
  22. :D  Um I feed a BARF/RAW diet and think processed & dry foods are horrible. Um that seems like processed food to me. BARF principles say things should be raw and put through blenders or juicers to break down the plants cellulose walls. The frozen stuff I am sure would contain extra presevatives and is only cut up not blended.
  23. Isn't there a certain autoimmune skin condition that Westies suffer from?
  24. Um doesn't seem like he is getting much bone in his diet. Most of it seem sot be muscle meat. I would be upping the bone by giving chicken necks at least 3 times a week as part of his main meal. Plus other bones. If you are feeding sardines nearly every day then there really wouldn't be any need to add extra fish oil to his diet. Why the different things of veggies/fruit? Most people just blend everything up together focusing mostly on green leafy veggies.
  25. He is still a baby I wouldn't be worry to much. He could be starting to test you as well. Does he have to be an indoor dog? ie. do you have a garden or yard you take take him out to toilet in? I believe that if a dog has a yard to go to the toilet in then it should go out there from day one. Newspaper and tolet training pads confuse the little things into thinking it's ok for them to toilet in the house. Yes when you can not supervise your puppy have him in an enclosed space like a puppy pen with some newspaper down for accidents but otherwise yous hould be taking your pup outside regularily and encouraging them to toilet out there.
