How old is he? Could it be his eye sight? Maybe leaving a night light on could help.

Those things are full of fat and you have no idea of the process and the chemicals that are used to dry them and then the preservatives that are used to coat them. Why can't you leave him outside to eat soft bones like lambs bones? Puppy pen him if you have to. I think it's sad if dogs are never given bones. Whole carrots are good to chew on.

Poor little boy. Ask your vet if you could take him back to puppy classes as all pups there have to be vaccinated. Perhaps invest in getting a trainer to come out to you to show you how to train him. With the toileting. Could you set a temporary fence, wooden stakes & plastic fencing, right outside your back door so that he only has access to a small area of the yard? That way you could take him outside to toilet. Get some baby gates or something similar and block off your house so that he only has access to a small area. Or even puppy pen him when you are not at home or not able to supervise. I would suggest to continue taking him outside and not getting him to toilet on newspaper as this only confuses pups into thinking that it is ok to toilet inside. If you do not want to spend $80+ to buy a puppy pen Bunnings has similar wire panels that are supposed to be used to make compost boxes out of. You will find them in the compost bin section for about $40. You could buy some belly bands that he could wear with pads in them but if he is urinating alot I would be slightly concerned that he would get urnie burn.

She would still fit in the laundry tub wouldn't she? If so it's very easy to bath dogs in there. I probably would be using something other then wool wash.

Chicken & rice as a normal diet is a terrible diet. Why oh why do vets keep telling people to feed rice? I suppose the same reason why they promote their dry food as the only way. Dogs need bone as well as meat. Rice as well as many other grains can cause skin poblems and is of no nutritional use to a dog. Have you looked into feeding a BARF or RAW diet? Chicken necks, sardines, kangaroo, meaty bones, pulped veggies & fruit etc

Did they do a spinal tap to diagnose?

If the operation is not successful then they will not amputate her leg. If anything another attempt at the operation will be made. I would suggest your vet refering you to a specalist if you are not confident in their ability. There are several different surgery techniques and earlier surgery helps prevent arthritis. It sounds like you are feeding meat (phosphorus) with no bone (calcium). If you are in fact doing so you are going to cause your dog great harm in terms of bones and muscle development. What raw meat did you try feeding that she threw up?

Swelled Vulva? Is It Called The Vulva?
puggy_puggy replied to paddles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
How long ago is it that you got her? -
Yeast infection? Yeast overload from his diet?
-
I feed both meat on the bone and diced meat.
-
Meat should not be cooked and if you are feeding meat and no bones then you are going to cause alot of problems for your dog. Veggies should not be cooked but put through the food processor. Starches & skimmed milk powder? Sounds like your girl has a fairly high grade Luxation. I would go and get a second opinion on operating.

What every happend puppies 3rd vaccinations, at 16 weeks, and not taking them out and about till then? Has the vaccination scheduled changed?
-
I was just trying to think if I've ever seen my girl clean her vulva, and yep, I'm pretty sure she can't even reach hers. Yes when you are a pug that is true to standard, a little tank, you have the unfortunate side effect of not being able to contort your body enough to get your head anywhere near your girly bits.
-
See how she goes. If it continues then visit your vet. Is she overweight at all? What sort of diet do you feed? Does she limp, bunny hop? Luxating Patella's vary from Grade 1 to Grade 4. Because she is a young dog Grade 3 & 4 are usually candidates for surgery.
-
Um I would say that it's not normal if a bitch is licking her vulva all the time. If you are having to clean it all the time then something is wrong. Sounds like your girl has an infection. Can't say my bitch cleans her bits or even needs to, she can't even reach there. Other bitches I have cared for, that can actually reach there, might have the occassional lick but not all the time. The only time I clean there is when they are in the bath about once a week.

My thoughts exactly. I feel that there are so many people that work in the animal care field, vets & vet nurses etc, that are basically brain washed to say that manafactured dog food is the only thing that should be feed.

The scratching could be anything from food to your carpet. You could try half a claratyne, once a day, for a week or so and see if it improves. The bumb dragging. Has he been wormed lately? Do his anal glands need expressing?
-
Probably worth going to see an eye specalist. What state are you in? Like human cateracts they can also surgically remove canine ones.
-
I would only use it, and have used it, as a tasty extra.

Take him outside every time you think of it, after he has eaten, woken up from sleeping, had a big play, and tell him to 'go to the toilet'. He will learn very quickly that outside is the place to go to the toilet. When you are not able to supervise him keep him in a puppy pen with newspaper on the ground.

You would have saved a fair bit of money if you bought the heartworm meds online and gotten the vet to write out a prescription for the pills and got them at your local chemist.
-
Yep will be just fine with chicken. You could also try giving some slippery elm as it's good for upset tummies. You can sprinkle it onto the chicken or I have made it up into the paste and drawn it up into a syringe and syringed it down pugs throats.
-
I belive that allwormers should be given every 3 months. Correct. Heartworm every month if you use a spot on like Revolution and intestinal wormer every 3 months for adult dogs.
-
Paw Paw Ointment or Curash. Drop the rice from his diet. Not needed.
-
I agree . Sorry your dog has had this happen...but the vet couldn't forsee it I agree as well. I do think that maybe the vet should have removed the other dew claw at the same time he did the infected one.
