Me too! Thanks guys! Good stuff. We went through a few days of gunky eyes here a while ago, which I am sure was due to the weather and the fact that Melbourne is just dust.

Omg! What Are These Sores On My Dogs?
puggy_puggy replied to snr's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yucky. For the hot spots if thye are still weepy go grab some Curash powder (baby nappy rash powder from the chemist or supermarket) and put onto the spots to dry them out. When they are not weepy you can use the cream. The antibiotics should help clear them up as well. -
Could be as little as an infected hair follicle.

Yes the OP said the dog was allergic to the yeast in meats. That is what got me confused as meats don't have yeast in them.

Omg! What Are These Sores On My Dogs?

Allergic reaction. How long have they been there for? Looks like more of a contact allergy then anything else. Vet will probably prescribe cortisone. I would be more inclined to give some antihistamines for a few days to see what occurs. If it doesn't improve then they could have turned into staph infections that will need antibiotics. Do you have any medicated creams at home? -
Luke warm tea bags. I have used camomile.

Sasha's Blend actually contains Green Lipped Mussels. http://www.sashasblend.com.au/cb_pages/sb_ingredients.php Speaking to my vet, ages ago, he said that he had seen the best results with products that did contain the Green Lipped Mussels.

Has it actually been diagnosed as a wart or is it a skin tag/growth? If it was actually a wart I am wondering if using one of those paint on wart removers that humans can use could be used on a dog. Of course you would have to put on an elizabethan collar so that the dog didn't lick it.

Mmm glad I was not the only one that was confused. I to have never heard of yeast being in meat. Through googling the only meat that contains it is processed or breadcrumbed. Could be that your friends are still feeding grain products. What exactly are they feeding? If a dog has a yeast infection caused by foods (grains) then it can take a few months for it's body to detox after it has been taken off all grains. Confused still that a vet could say that meat caused a yeast infection.

Barf Diet For Broken Leg In Puppy
puggy_puggy replied to Sue's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Poor baby. Adding extra calcium, ie supplements such as powder, should not be necessary if your pup is getting the right food. How much puppy mince (mince chicken bones) is she being feed? I probably would be making up meals of puppy mince 80% and then the rest, being 20%, of the veggies, extra meat and yoghurt. At 16 weeks 10% of ther body weight should be fed daily over three meals. (Two of the being the puppy mince combo and one being a bone that she can fully eat) Get her some lambs flaps, lambs chubs or other soft non weighbearing bones that she can have for one meal a day. The point of these bones is that they are fully consumed. -
Inceptor does everything. So no need to give the other tablets every 3 months. I suppose you have to add up the pros and the cons of the situation when you use an all in one product. The so called 'experts' tell us that if you use a spot on or tablet product then heartworm is needed to be done every month with intestinal wormig tablets being given every 3 months. (roundworm, hookworm, whipworm & tapeworm) If you use a product, such as Inceptor, that does everything once every month then are you overdosing with the intestinal wormers because they supposedly only need intestinal worming every 3 months. But then again if you are someone that forgets perhaps it's better that you overdo the intestinal worming then not do it at all.

Ignore he crying and barking. As long as she has a comfy bed and water she will be fine.

If you have checked out the breeder and they are well known in their breed circle then you really don't have that much to worry about. If the breeder is someone that no one has heard of and you found through a dodgy website then I would be concerned. It might be possible to ring up the states Canine Council and ask if they have so and so's litter of pups registration in their inbox.

Veggies? Lamb ribs? -
I've been giving my 7 and a 1/2 year old pug Sasha's Blend for the last few months. He developed a limp in his front leg and shows signs of tenderness in both elbows. Now I am pretty sure this has been caused by jumping off things such as the couch. I am pretty sure it has made a difference but who really knows. Before I started giving it he would limp every time he got up. Now he will do so every once and a while. If only I could teach the little bugger that he has to use the step to get off the couch and not jump.

Mine will have a nibble on herbs but I would say it's because they like the taste of them rather then self medicating.

Could also be a food allergy. Otoscope is what the instrument is called. http://www.economedical.com.au/category/otoscopes/

Correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure that patties do contain bone.

PUPPY BARF DIET •Currently being feed approximately 10% of their body weight, 80% of which should be Raw Meaty Bones and 20% vegies, offal & dairy, divided up into 3 meals a day. As they get older this should be cut back with them getting fed 2% to 3% of their body weight in either two or one meal a day when they are adults. If you see that they are getting to fat then cut the percentage back. •Breakfast & Dinner consist of Puppy mince/minced chicken carcasses, Barf veggie slops & full fat yoghurt. I will prepare a bowl of it in the morning mixing together the mince, veggie slops and yoghurt. Lunch consists of a raw meaty bone. •Twice a week I have been adding sardines to their food & once a week offal. You could add other things like kangaroo & beef from time to time but it is important that the bone to meat ratio remains ok. •Lennard’s sells the Puppy mince/ chicken mince which they have been fed on. It is made up of minced chicken carcasses. If you have to source the mince from somewhere else make sure it contains meat as well as the minced bones. It is important that dogs when dogs are fed meat (phosphorus) that they also have the right ratio of bone (calcium) with it to balance out nutritional needs. If dogs are fed meat without bones then serious health problems can occur. •Lamb bones are the best for them as they are soft enough for them to eat the whole bone which is important. Other bones that can be feed are the ones from non weight bearing parts of the body. Weight bearing bones are often to hard for dogs to actually consume both the bone and the meat throwing the phosphorus/ calcium ratio all out of whack and ruining dogs teeth in the process.

Mainly Kibble Only Diet, What Do People Think?
puggy_puggy replied to snr's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What were you feeding? If it was a BARf diet I would just decrease the amount even more and maybe up the veggie/fruit intake. One bone a day would do as his whole meal for the day. I probably would only feed low fat yoghurt. If you are feeding a BARF only diet you would work out your dogs ideal weight and then only feed 2% of that a day. With approx 80% of that being RMB and the other being fruit, veggies, muscle meat, offal & dairy. Pffttt to kibble being the only way to put a dog on a diet. Many brands of dry food are full of fat also. -

Could be because he is teething. What do you feed? -
What exaclty where you feeding him? Could have been that it was to fatty. Years ago, before I knew how crappy they were, I uused to feed pigs ears and my pug boy would always vomit up bile afterwards. I finally worked out that it was the pigs ears and they are full of fat which was making him sick. These days I feed a total BARf diet with no problems.
