  1. Excellent! I mailed some out today and will mail more tomorrow :)
  2. All buyers need to do is purchase the book as normal through the website and from every sale I will donate $5 to MDBA Pacers. website is www.fostermanual.com
  3. Tops! I use his sensitive skin complete mix with my dogs food and they love it. :) It's the only thing that has made a dent in my dogs scratching!
  4. Ah yes I do see Kennel signs, but they are not advertising that they have litters or pups for sale.
  5. As a delivery driver I see a lot of signs when working. One type in particular I see a lot of is "XX pups for sale". Many of these are cross breeds so wouldn't be registered pups (le sigh), but the ones that are stating "Pure Breed" I wonder if they are registered, ethical breeders who are simply advertising outside their residence? On another note, I would personally be worried about putting up a sign... it's just asking for the pups to be stolen. Especially in some areas with certain breeds.
  6. If she knows she is not supposed to do it... then why does she? Have you eliminated the smells from the house from where she previously marked? If the scent is still around it's going to be hard for her to resist. My Greyhound bitch was desexed around 3 yrs old and now at 9 yrs old still marks over my boys wee and other dogs at the dog park. She doesn't toilet inside, but never did even undesexed.
  7. Oh fair enough! What do you feed your dogs? and weasels - I love that dog roll freaks you out but I cant think of why! haha Mine eat fresh meat and Vets All natural complete mix. I used to make my own veg mix but this is easier Mine too and they love it and they will turn their nose up at almost everything else. I have a highly sensitive dog so feeding purely commercial is not an option for me. I also like how much cheaper it is to feed raw and make it myself. To the OP. You could spend hours reading about diet, reading ingredient lists etc but I say feed what your dog does best on.
  8. Great thread! I'd like to add my partner and his family too! I live in his parents house with him and his younger sister and they are all so accommodating of my 2 dogs and 1 extra foster dog. But my partner is wonderful. He often comes to the pound with me to check out a dog, he helps with the vet trips and admin medication (if necc). He enjoys walking them with me and laughing at their silly antics. Each time one is rehomed he has an "aww.. he/she can't stay?!" but understands we can't keep them all! My current foster has a potential home in Brisbane and he suggested we drive him there to make sure everything goes ok... we live in Sydney!
  9. The OP won't have enough posts to see that thread.
  10. Those pics make me think of this one: (not my dog)
  11. I rehomed a NON cat safe Greyhound to a couple a few years ago. Obviously they didn't have cats.. but they had a cement cat statue in their garden. While we were standing around in their yard she spotted the cat statue and locked on her gaze. We all stopped and were trying not to laugh... wondering what she was going to do. Suddenly she jumped and snapped at it! Gave herself a good fright when she chomped down on cement!
  12. Hazel fell off her bed the other night.. considering it is just a big fluffy dog bed that is on the ground it wasn't much of a fall. The part that woke me up and laughing was that her back legs got tangled and on the polished floor boards she couldn't untangle herself and stand up and was just pushing herself with her front legs along the bedroom floor. Even my other dog Sweep got up and went over to her wondering what was going on. Typical Greyhound
  13. Sweep at about 12 weeks. The only puppy photo I have of him (which was scanned in from a printed photo) Sweep in 2009 Sweep in 2010. Only 1 year apart and he looks like he has aged so much since he got diabetes. Hazel the day I picked her up from Hawkesbury Pound in 2006. Straight onto the couch! Hazel in 2010. Much more grey around the muzzle now.
  14. I saw a sign up on a power pole on a main road near Londonderry not long ago, hand written saying 2 Shih Tzus missing, is that your sign? There are two Shih Tzus in Hawkesbury pound but neither are clipped short, both look cross and one is male.
  15. Citronella collars give off a spray of Citronella, which is an oil which is (depending on the research you read) suspected to calm a barking dog or the spray is considered an unpleasant odour and the dog puts two and two together and stops barking (no bark = no spray). A shock collar can be one of two types. One type is controlled by the dog and barking in return gives a shock (sometimes graded) or you can get remote ones that work by the human pressing a button and giving a shock (this one is used not only for barking but other issues) Thanks very much shmoo. I was just talking to my dad about the shaking of a can with some screws and nails etc in it and we are going to give that a try. Sounds like something that we can easily do and we can start straight away. No worries. Just remember timing is crucial with positive punishment.
  16. Fair enough. I'd like to be wrong... don't like the collars myself.

  18. I think a dog would need to directly ingest large amounts of pure Citronella oil for it to be considered poisonous. And yes, you get what you pay for. You would need to know what works for your dog to kurb the barking. Some dogs don't care at all about the Citronella and bark right through the spraying until the collar is empty.

  20. Thanks everybody for your kind words and support. Copies of the manual can be purchased here: http://www.fostermanual.com/
  21. I've just seen this thread (and PM ) I am swamped with work atm meaning it would be a while before I could get anything done unfortunately.
  22. Neat. Not sure if you have already, didn't see it posted on the shopping list But I would make the bath anti slip somehow.
  23. I see what you mean. I suppose I use words more like "confident", which he does use as well. If I've got this right, he refers to having "assertive energy". I looked up assertive on dictionary.com and it says this: confidently aggressive or self-assured; positive: aggressive; dogmatic That sums up my interpretation pretty well. I agree with little day to day things too can really help.
  24. Ok, the shudder remark was a bit much, it came across more harshly via text than I intended it to. But I did state it was something that I heard. Not that I saw. Was kinda just thinking out loud I suppose. I understand about: Positive reinforcement Negative reinforcement Positive punishment Negative punishment but in layman terms I refer to 'positive training' as something enjoyable for the dog. I don't ride the Delta bandwagon either ETA to clarify: The shudder remark was aimed at the idea of training with only a check chain.
  25. Erny: I have only watched the show broadly too. That's a good idea about emailing. I will have a more in-depth read of his website. On the surface he comes across as very assertive and dominant and recommends people to do the same without offering much more information than that. Nekhbet: I suggest positive methods to people because I have seen and had a lot of success with it myself. I personally have had people discuss their issues with me and explained they have tried the alpha roll, spray bottles those kinds of things and ended up with more issues. I think if somebody who knows nothing about training and is yet to consult a professional, should only use positive techniques because making a mistake isn't a big deal.
