  1. Me too. I order them from their website. http://www.doog.com.au/shop/category/cat3576/Refill_Packs.html To the OP: Have you considered biodegradable bags? The cheap plastic ones take a long time to break down in the environment
  2. It does behoove the owner to make an effort to update details although admittedly, some do make it hard. I agree, it is up to owners to change the details on their chip. However, knowing people are a bit slack (and some databases are a bit hard), it would be nice if all details were used on the chip. (In the instance of Woof, the postal address was still correct and, if a registered letter was sent to the address, the dog would've been spared rehoming.) I thought that ALL efforts were made to reach an owner if the animal is impounded. That includes calling all the numbers and mailing a letter by registered post. Also, if the animal has a name tag with a number, that number is phoned too.
  3. No, not pointless. It just needs refinement. The concept is solid, it's the lack of uniformity, enforcement and strategic planning that is letting it down. Yes you are right.
  4. Thanks for the replies so far. Scary isn't it to think that the microchip is almost pointless
  5. Can anybody point me in the direction of evidence of issues in Identifying ownership and returning lost pets (primarily dogs and cats). I am talking about issues such as: Lack of policing (low council priority in tracking animals and/or owners, not difficult to forge paperwork) Paperwork dilemmas (paperwork missing, lost in mail/transit, completed incorrectly, logged incorrectly, delays in logging, never completed at all) Cost of microchips and implantation Chip useless without information being put into the system Databases: Too many, not Australia wide (only state but many animals move interstate) Does anybody know of somewhere complaining or trying to change things regarding these issues? For example a certain council, or pound, RSPCA, the public. Putting aside PIAA's changes to be made come Oct 2012 regarding pet stores. Thanks :)
  6. I don't think so at all. My 3rd dog took me well over a year to bond with. I realised I was not spending enough one on one time with her and so spent some time doing walking, playing, taking her to work etc and slowly the bond increased and now 6 years later the bond is as strong as it is with my first dog (the 2nd dog is no longer with me). Never once though did I think about rehoming her. I made the decision to take her in for life.

  9. I don't know how else I could say in the topic that the AREA is going to flood and not the pound? The pound would not just PTS dogs because of flooding in their area! Sounds like somebody was trying advertise the need to move some dogs real quick using a tug at heart strings.
  10. Posting to advise everybody who is going to be collecting animals from Hawkesbury Pound today to do it ASAP as the area is at risk of flooding due to the heavy rain today. I have been told by Hawkesbury Pound staff that the animals are NOT expected to be impacted just the access to the facility. ETA: topic to make it clearer
  11. Attached is the flyer. :) ETA: Sorry it has come out so tiny. DOL won't let me attach a file any bigger
  12. Sounds like what my boy does but he has itchy skin and just loves a back scratch!
  13. Can you send me to flyer on email? I can shrink it for you and post on here. :) Email: [email protected]
  14. Sweep - Named after the dog puppet in Sooty, Sweep and Soo. Hazel - A female name I like.
  15. I can but I am only available tomorrow (next available time is likely Monday 27th)
  16. My schedule for the first half of this year gives me Mon afternoons off and I will be in Richmond. Is somebody or assistance needed on Monday for photos, temp notes, list compiling?
  17. Taken from the council website: "Marrickville Council officers make all attempts to return companion animals seized within the Marrickville Local Government area to their owners, however, if an owner can not be contacted, the animal is transported to Sydney Dogs and Cats Home." Sydney Dogs and Cats home is located at 77 Edward St, Carlton and can be contacted on Ph 95879611 or email: [email protected] or visit their website: http://www.sydneydogsandcatshome.org. Opening Hours: Mon-Fri: 9am - 3pm Sat-Sun: 10am - 2pm Viewing Hours: Dogs: 9am - 1pm daily Cats: 10am - 2pm daily
  18. Wahl KM2. Love em! You'll need to purchase blades as well and figure out what length you will be trimming. For grooming 1 dog I use several blades: #30, #10, then I find most people like a #5 blade length but some people prefer shorter (like myself) a #7 or longer a #3. Anything longer than a #3 and you'll start using snap on combs over a #30.
  19. Well... are they? No, this is simply not true. Many groups go through a thorough temp assessment and screening process with their dogs. Many of the groups and individuals posting in this thread have been operating for years and have never had anything of this nature occur. Bit hard when it's all a cover up half the time. If we never stop to question the actions of others, how would people ever evolve and learn?
  20. Oh my. F**K me. Pound Rounds should be held accountable for the dogs they are releasing. I am sure somewhere there is a temperament assessment of this dog written up under the name of Pound Rounds that shows the dog wearing a halo. If I were that owner I would sue Pound Rounds for damages and for not disclosing a true assessment.
  21. This is a personal choice as Bartok explained. I'd make an effort to contact the groups personally and ask the questions you want to know. That way you are not relying on second hand information and you will feel confident with who you are promoting.
  22. My gosh that has gone quick! Have fun today Zero! He is one super lucky boy :D
