  1. Get some Nutrigel from the Vet or Pet Supplies it is a high calorie supplement paste that tastes yummy, and stimulates the appetite.
  2. Let us not forget the horses, I would hate to guess how many of those have been sent to the doggers by the RSPCA, also the ones that die in their paddocks because they claim there are insufficient inspectors to investigate, and yet yes they can rock up at dog shows ready to pounce at the sight of a docked tail, or raid a breeder on the suspicion of same. The animals taken into care that don't make it out, the ones that are discarded after they have served their purpose as cash cows. I don't think anyone will ever forget Clifford.
  3. Best guided by her breeder, large breed pup needs to be reared carefully, I'm sure if the pup was sourced from a RRB then they have a wealth of knowledge on their breeds dietary requirements.
  4. The track record of the organisation is what has led to the opinions that too many on this forum dismiss as cynical sniping. They are the biggest animal welfare organisation in the country they have the funds and the profile to do something about puppy farms but they seem to prefer soft targets. WHY? Many here have witnessed the RSPCA in action, do not dismiss their opinions so lightly.
  5. If they behave like the owner in the OP what is the problem? They went when no one else was there, they left when someone arrived. They probably did look peeved, as they no doubt have difficulty finding a park that is empty that they can use. All dogs deserve the opportunity to exercise.
  6. Why not just give her a good dry shampoo or hot towel her at home if she is old and it is not a happy experience for her.
  7. Exactly!! there is nothing like anal gland abscesses to give you that job satisfaction, every clinic should aim for at least 6 - 10 a week to keep profit margins up and staff happy. There is nothing like the perfume of dogs ass up your sinuses at 8am, that's why we do it, we love it.
  8. Shhh! We all have those LOL I should have made myself clearer, it really is possible to have animals extremely well cared for, and as should be obvious to anyone who watches the videos thoroughly socialised not at all lacking in human contact even though they are kenneled and kept in numbers. Many of the old kennels of days gone by kept large numbers of happy healthy dogs that wanted for nothing, and those kennels were not only totally acceptable they were held in high esteem. Times have changed and now anyone who doesn't have the one or 2 sleeping on the bed and only one litter now and again is looked upon by many as pond scum. The other thing that stands out from those videos is that those animals are so highly valued not only in the present day, but for their history something that we are losing with many breeds. The lack of outlets for the traditional purpose of many breeds is sad, there is nothing to compare with watching them in action and seeing why the structure of the breeds is the way it is, why the shape of a foot, the length of neck, the depth of chest or the strength of jaw is so important. If we do not understand what they are meant to do we will never have a full understanding of how they should look and act.
  9. Far from it. Although the lack of cutsie dog jumpers and designer beds will no doubt draw negative responses from some. Excellent videos and a must see for those who treat their dogs like little people I think.
  10. Heartworm prevention medications are for the prevention of Heartworm Disease. Heartworm Disease is adult heartworms in the heart of the dog. Daily, monthly or yearly medications PREVENT this.
  11. I would like to see the the actual reports linked to each "attack" that describes what the incident actually was. Many incidents that are reported as attacks are actually far from it, but they still end up in the numbers. The identity of the breeds in so many cases is also a joke.
  12. I know of a pet meat abattoir that takes horses and handles them with dignity, always an option if a horse has to be put down due to injury or old age etc. All it takes is a phone call to arrange a time and the horse is humanely destroyed on arrival. I know from discussions with other horse owners that there are many "doggers" that do the job humanely and with dignity. I have no hesitation using meat from these sources. My understanding of the situation with the WA horse meat for human consumption business is that the horses are treated as the valuable commodity that they are.
  13. No horse & dog games allowed here, I have one pony who will run down a dog, and besides that I value my horses and my dogs too much to have any accidents. Broken legs in horses are not a nice end, and the sheer size difference between the horses and the dogs means that even an accident can end very badly. I have seen a horse kick the top of a dogs skull clean off, not pretty.
  14. Yep you have to either be a Vet or a human Chiro to do Vet Chiro.
  15. The number of Caesareans and awful whelpings in Staffords due to the byb not having a basic grasp of the dogs anatomy is quite astounding. You only have to look at the body shape of the dogs and the massive heads that many of them hold sacred to see why they cannot whelp.
  16. I would take dog to Vet and have it checked over, then I would do something about the fencing to prevent the dogs ever ending up in the same space as the pony, next time you may not be so lucky.
  17. Barking dogs is the most common complaint dealt with by Animal Control Officers daily. You can be forced to remove your dog or it can be seized if you cannot resolve the problem. Neighborhood disputes over barking dogs are common, dogs are surrendered to the pound, baited by neighbours, released from their yards etc. I agree totally with Angelsuns post.
  18. The Nobivac 3yr Vaccine is the only vaccine that is registered as able to sign off on for 3yrs. To sign off on the others for 3 yrs is off label use. We are using Nobivac 3yr and it is only a couple of dollars dearer than the normal vaccs so it definitely is not a money spinner for us.
  19. A puppy I gave to my uncle died after managing to get to some mouldy bread that had been put away for the chooks. He was very ill for several days before he finally passed it was a terrible learning curve for everyone. Good news that this little one seems to be on the improve.

  21. Me thinks you would have been better off sitting on your hands
  22. Hot spots usually start due to the dog scratching at one spot on their skin causing localised irritation, itching from fleas, tick bites, allergies, etc can start them off, dogs with double coats often get them if the coat has not dried completely after bathing, swimming etc. They can quickly spread to cover a large area, so need to be treated ASAP, I find Curash powder applied liberally as soon as they appear nips them in the bud. You need to find out the cause to stop them recurring though.
  23. Usually caused by a slack owner leaving the collar on for extended periods, not the way to go at all.
  24. A correctly used collar will not inflict injuries like this. A well fitted correctly used collar is a far better alternative than a dead dog.
  25. Cats are exhibited in banks of adjoining wire cages, each cat has its own internal curtains on three sides of it's cage blocking it's view of it's neighbours. Uniform white curtaining is required by smost councils, fancy curtains are allowed by others, most allow fancy curtains after judging is completed and the show is open to public viewing.
