  1. Jane had 3 boxer bitches and the litter. Thats what I was afraid of. There was Roxy, Beth and my brain is too numb to recall the third one. But yep the 3 bitches and the litter.
  2. That was the case earlier this afternoon, I believe it hasn't changed.
  3. Channel 10 have picked up the Magnus story, hopefully something will make the 5 pm news.
  4. Latest update on ABC news confirms that the RSPCA are releasing the dogs to be cared for by Janes friends so that is good to read in print. Nothing one can say at a time like this but if tears, prayers and good thoughts can mend, then Jane is going to be just fine. You hang in there girl your dogs want you back ASAP, you are one of the best.
  5. The only reason people are still replying is in the hope of providing some education, and maybe countering the very pro BSL sentiments expressed here, for the sake of those reading who do not post - and for the sake of the dogs, of course. Jed I understand completely that many are fighting for the breed and rightly so, but to reply to some of those comments is giving those ridiculous comments substance and that poster clearly has no substance, knowledge or understanding. You know that and we know that but Joe Public that comes across the comments may well not.
  6. IMO the biggest factor is the wrong initial choice of pet.
  7. A young healthy Pom with its double spitz coat should not need a coat unless you want a shower proof coat for walking in the rain or toileting outside when it is wet.
  8. I would be crating him, and popping him off to the Vet for a good going over for possible issues. Allowing him free run is obviously not suitable for now.
  9. And this is precisely why I DON'T go to 'dog parks'. Thats fair enough and I would expect other people who dont want their dogs to be greeted by other dogs to also stay away from dog parks, there are plenty of parks that are not designated dog parks where they could take their dogs. There is a big difference between a polite greeting and a over enthusiastic rude in your face, it is the rude dogs that get negative responses. If dogs were under control effectively than so many of the incidents, many of which are simply a dog telling another to back off could be avoided.
  10. So there will no complaints if your dog gets flattened by another dog for invading its space?? Dogs can still run and play without disturbing everyone else that is not too much to ask surely. Why do they have to be in each others faces. It has nothing to do with being uptight.
  11. You could substitute any breed of dog in here and have the same responses. IMO any breed bounding and bouncing into the face of other dogs is a risk to itself and to the other dog, I don't give a rats what breed if they bounce into my dogs face then what ever reaction they get from me or my dogs is justified, no matter what the intentions of the other dog may be. I don't expect little dogs to stand stoically and allow someone elses 30 kg dog to get in their faces, why should they. Why is it unreasonable that they show fear or apprehension when an unknown large dog invades their space or bowls into them. It is unreasonable to expect all dogs to never react negatively to a strange dog in their face. All this bunkum about that is what happens in dog parks is crap, no matter where you are or what size or breed you own you have your dog under effective control, and that also means keeping it out of the face of other people or dogs unless invited.
  12. If it is acceptable for dogs to be dogs then my dogs are quite within their rights to snap at or growl at any dog that gets in their face that they don't like or do not know.
  13. Any dog can be aggressive and many are just down right rude, and yes Labs have been surrendered to our pound for both HA and DA and just like any other breed, and as long as people buy breeds like this thinking they have to do no training because they are the "perfect family Dog" and they have no need to put anything in to them they will continue this way.
  14. Threads like this remind me why I don't use off leash parks, too many rude dogs, too many ignorant owners, too many opportunities for something to go wrong. If a large rude dog bounces up to and all over my small dog and injures it or frightens it my dog is at fault, too timid shouldn't be there, if a rude dog bounces into the face of my large dog and my dog tells it to piss off, my dog is at fault, DA unsocialised shouldn't be there. Staying away seems the option. Meanwhile rude dogs bounce their way through life unrestrained because they are only young, only playing etc etc.
  15. I would rather groom the sedated Lhasa than have her as distressed as what she is, a dog that is throwing itself around, expressing its anal glands and crapping and peeing everywhere, is not a happy easy to manage dog. This dog has apparently been like this all its life, if the owners want it sedated to groom it then thats what happens.
  16. I have previously said in this thread that I don't like how they look, I prefer "moderate" looking dogs nothing that is overly exaggerated. Don't deny that. It can be found in GSDs, just obviously not at a National. Too be honest I stayed only half an hour both days because I couldn't stand it anymore. What is the point of the dog being able to run if they can't even stand without hocks touching or being able to walk normally? Wouldn't say the GSD breed as a whole are unsound, certainly some specific lines aren't helping the breed at all and IMO some of those lines are what I saw on the weekend. I didn't go to the show with an preconceived ideas about the breed, I have no experience in the breed, but I certainly left with the knowledge that I would never own a specialty bred GSD. Half an hour and you make a call like that.
  17. You are joking, time for some training I think, for Bubby, he has you trained well enough.
  18. I groom an elderly dog that is sedated for grooming, she stresses totally otherwise and is a risk to herself throwing herself around and going frantic. Her owners insist on sedation and we agree, it is best for her. Eventually there will come a time when she is just too old, and guess they will have to make a decision about her. Many dogs calm down and become quite manageable with a muzzle only, but there is always the odd one it doesn't work for.
  19. There is no way it can be accurate, dogs meet their end without Veterinary help through accident ,old age or even the bullet in rural areas, all unrecorded. Just as many live their lives out till old age without being a statistic anywhere. I haven't worked at a Vet Clinic that has ever been contacted for figures on Euths. Pounds etc would have records, but the private sector ???
