  1. Uhm they generally don't, no.
  2. Another RSPCA death in custody, another innocent victim. For all Creatures Great and Small what utter bullshit.
  3. Jata a shelter is VERY different to a vet clinic with someone who is bringing in a pet in comparison to someone who is putting down an animal from a shelter. Shelter euthanasias wouldn't require a sedation because generally they don't have owners there present to be distressed by the animals thrashing. Shelter animals are usually dumped, abondened, given up etc so the owners would rarely stay with the animal to watch it be euthanised. I'm talking SPECIFICALLY about PET(s) as in your pet not shelter animals. If you've had a your pet put down without sedation and it was peaceful then lucky for you I was not so lucky. Well, I must have lucked with the Vets I have worked with because very few Euths have gone bad, and no they are as a rule not sedated first. We have had cause to sedate (tablets in food) some really nasty pound dogs before Euth but pets, nope. I don't like the inference that it is ok for shelter animals to not have a peaceful passing either, they are treated the same as any other.
  4. thanks i have introduced on a daily basis chicken necks cut up into say about an inch or so long and then i schmush 'em with the tenderiser [one tends to gobble 'em down if i leave it in its natural slender neck-like state ] ... i suppose in one day they'd each have consumed just over one full chicken neck each. will that help!??! they also get a raw, but not very meaty, bone every day of the week too [but not weekends tho]... again, thanks for your help Have you tried larger bones for the gulper, chicken wings, lamb breast or larger necks like turkey but cut up to smaller portions?
  5. No, the RMB are for them to chew and digest, the chewing and ripping and working to get the meat off is what cleans the teeth and stimulates the digestion. Totally edible bones such as wings, necks, frames, lamb breast, lamb necks, roo tail etc Yes they get roughage and to some extent calcium from the ground frames, but they need the big chewable bones too.
  6. I have found that the addition of the raw meaty bones is usually enough to help with the glands. Some people use bran, but the bones seem to work here.
  7. What do you mean by barf here? If you want them eating vegies I wouldn't be giving them their tasty meat and bones at the same time till they start eating their vegies . dr b's barf pattie [i call 'em bricks] ... i feed 1 quarter of 1 brick per dog and that generally is an overflowing soup spoon full... thanks crisovar for the reply and the tip i'll see how i go by giving them just a taste of the vegie glop ... my understand was that to introduce a new food/flavour, add a little bit to their usual meal... Why do you need to feed extra vegies then? ETA IMO you are making this too hard, it doesn't have to be difficult, the Patties and raw meaty bones and you are all good.
  8. The thing is that adding a dog to the family should be a relatively happy time, and with the right dog it will be. Yes, it always takes work and time, BUT it doesn't need to be like boot camp just to keep a dog. This was not the right dog for this family, large dogs can live in harmony with small children if raised correctly and if they have the right temperament to start with. Put this dog in another situation, take small kiddies out of the equations and all will probably be sweet. Kudos to the OP for putting her family first and having the strength to decide early enough that this was the wrong choice. The right dog will be out there, just as the right home for this dog will be.
  9. The Advantage is killing the fleas, as they jump on your dog from the environment. You need to thoroughly treat the house and yard and continue to do so as each batch of eggs and larvae emerge. It sounds as if there are still many in the house and yard.
  10. It really does pay to teach dogs right from when pups to allow tablets to be administered. Even the cats here accept it. No fuss and you know they have taken and they have the full dose.
  11. Have a look at a how many visitors come to this site every day, check out how many people come on here asking questions, how many threads on BYBs, puppy farmers do we have? If one person every day who doesn't have a clue what is happening watches that and wakes up it has done it's job.
  12. That's a bit rude, a full on teenage Wei is not for everyone. Finding the dog that is suitable is all that is needed. I dont know about that... I'd probably be pretty defensive if it was my breed too. The dog is only behaving exactly the way you would expect a dog of that breed and age to act. The OP made a mistake in choosing a Wei (or any large breed, high energy dog) if she cannot/does not want to deal with that kind of behaviour. But no point in flaming now, the deed is done, she is returning the dog and I think she has learnt her lesson too. I disagree, just because one individual of a breed does not suit a situation does not mean the OP shouldn't have a dog. This dog also sounds as if it has not had a lot of groundwork put into it before the OP took it on, if it had it could well have been much more suitable.

  15. People making unwise or stupid choices is the problem, the majority of animals in the pounds system are in there because the owner did not choose an animal that suited their lifestyle or their ability.. ETA you can legislate all you like people will still make stupid choices
  16. Depends on what you feed them and the ingredients, I look more at the consistency than the colour. Blue playdough makes for blue poo LOL
  17. It would take more than a forum to help you see the light me thinks. You haven't read much of this forum or if you have have taken only you own narrow view from it. Cheers
  18. I love to see a good news story about dogs Well done Buddy!
  19. Was it peptosyl? Black bottle? If so the dose for dogs is .25 - .5ml /kg. Daily
  20. I have seen some terrible cases of dogs with uncontrolled allergies, what a miserable existence they lead. Whilst there are so many success stories out there, and you will read many on here, there are just as many where the battle is continual and money spent hands over fist and all the good intentions in the world don't help.
  21. I hope she intends desexing the bitch. What a terrible mix of coat types, why would you do something like that, please tell me it wasn't intentional. Chihuahua x Pomeranian x Bichon
  22. Sorry that this doesn't seem to be working out for you. A 14mo Wei can be full on, they have boundless energy and should have had lots of training prior to this stage, what sort of problems are you having with him?
