Do you have a link to the research please.

Why? We don't know the circumstances. I have seen terrible injuries caused by people attempting to seperate fighting dogs. The dog could have been abused, the dog could have been ill.

Animal Welfare is not just about the animals, it is also necessary to educate and help people to provide the care for their animals need.

Do pounds desex? I thought rescues desex, but most pounds just try to get the dogs to a home . . . preferably their own home . . . and if homing and rehoming fail . . . to place them with a rescue org. No not all Pounds desex, most regional area pounds around here do not.

We had a similar incident at work last week with a dog that presented with its tongue stuck in the kong, it was very swollen and took some time to go back to normal but thankfully no permanent damage.

With the dogs that present in a badly matted state, I think some people are just plain stupid. If they actually ever had their hands on the dog they would feel the matting, if they can't tell that it is wrong then that is sheer stupidity, if they do nothing about it it is plain laziness or downright cruelty. Some people manage quite well for a while to deal with the coat then it becomes too hard, too time consuming, the cute factor has worn off and they get slack about it. I find that often once the dog has been clipped right back and they decide to keep it clipped that they get even slacker and don't bother at all. Although most buy the DDs with no idea at all how much work they will be because they are not told at time of purchase surely they can feel the mats developing and realise something has to be done?? The whole subject just makes me cross.

The problem is not everyone cares, people are so focused on their own that they fail to even notice what is happening around them. Jed is right, no one will stand up for the other breeds, it doesn't affect them so they don't care a damn. We saw this with Taildocking, we saw it again with BSL, will we see it when breeds are targetted. I have never owned a PBT or anything that resembles one, but it didn't stop me fighting BSL, lots of my showie mates laughed, who cares they said they will leave our breeds alone. They wont leave our breeds alone none of them. Not one Breed is safe, and until the people who claim to be dog lovers pull their heads out of their own butts and realise where this is heading, then we have no hope.

Yes, I have a rescue here on it now. However they are in tablet form. Do you have a brand name or manufacturer? There are several brands, I don't think capsules though.

There is a huge difference in the ingredients of these foods, Royal Canin is a Premium food. Many dogs do very well on Coprice, but you will find that a lot of posters here will not use it because of the high grain content.

Would anyone have a bag handy with the analysis on it please

Tips And Tricks For Giving Dogs Their Medication
Crisovar replied to Pepi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Not one of my own. Rescues and Grooming clients yes, because so many are never taught to accept it from puppyhood, most can be won over if you take it slow get them used to having their feet handled and then do one nail at a time and treat or praise depending on what works with the dog. The really nasty clients, well they are muzzled, but there are very few if they are regular. -

I have no idea as to the history of your dog, but any pup here learns from day one to accept medication by mouth, not one ever has been impossible to do. Rescues can sometimes be testy to start with but have always come around in the end. The cats are the same. It is simply one of the things that I insist upon, medicating and nail clipping. -

AFAIK that is correct, I would use Tablets only to split this way. -

Agree with SBT123... Yep -
The plight of the Fraser Island Dingo certainly is a disgrace and all because of the mighty tourist dollar.

Sad isn't it that so many cannot see the writing that is so plainly written on the wall. Paranoid we have been called. Sadly I think it will not be too long before we see who is right.

Touch dramatic, all this mean is WA is in line with the rest of the states. I don't see it decimating the show world just levels the playing field for everyone. I have said it many times, if people leave the breed because they aren't docked anymore then so be it, they obviously put way too much emphasis on their tails and not the entire dog. I have never been anti docking and as stated before would still do so if nothing had changed, but it did. FCI well that's my personal preference, just my opinion, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Having to crossbreed your dog to be a member of the ANKC.....Bobtails prime example, but I guess their ok for some reason. Breeding whites, Dr Cattanach used a white bitch as his foundation for his bobtail experiment but again I guess that's ok. Certain acts seem to be ok from certain perspectives. I have no interest in the effect of the taildocking ban in the show ring, far from it. Eventually you will not be showing dogs at all, that won't concern me either. The fact that there may well be very few dogs left to own, possibly very few purebred ones, and that dog ownership is going to be looked upon the same as smoking in public is a concern. When I and others first started fighting the very first whispers of a tail docking ban here in QLd many years ago, we were laughed at. We were told it would never happen, we were laughed at. When we told them that not only PBT but other dogs would die if BSL was introduced we were laughed at again. When we told them that our rights as dog lovers would be slowly chipped away we were laughed at again. Dramatic???? Only if you want a future with dogs.

Another step closer to the ultimate goal.

Search for Dr Jean Dodds vaccination protocol, there have been several threads about it on here. Really informative reading.
-
Don't a lot of folk give their pups their first vaccs at 6 weeks? The majority of Vaccine manufacturers are still recommending vaccinating from 6wks. Many Breeders who have researched the issue choose to wait till later, but I wouldn't call those that don't unethical.

Interceptor Spectrum Tasty Chew
Crisovar replied to all that glitters's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Does the Mlbemax cover heartworm? I complained about the interceptor in at the vets (I'm a fair way from town and don't get there often) and the vet nurse got me some seperate tablets in a packet because they didn't have anything other than interceptor or spectrum boxed. It just had milbemax written on the packet but I have been a bit concerned that it may have only done the intestinal worming and missed them on their heartworm. Mossies are rife around here at the moment and I really don't want them to be missing their heartworm treatment. I have written to Interceptor, no reply at all. I can only think they are losing business and should maybe listen to what their customers are saying. Why they had to try and fix what wasn't brokent I don't know. Milbemax does cover Heartworm as well as the intestinalworms. -
Beautiful, thank you for posting that.

The OP took all precautions to ensure the security of her dogs and to keep them contained, the neighbours now need to lift their game and ensure that THEIR pup is safe. Why is it that no one can accept respopnsibility for their own, you buy a pup you keep it safe, it isn't rocket science. They have have time to fix this, they haven't. As far as I can make out here I do not know whose dog is at fault with the hole under the fenceline. As far as Im concerned BOTH owners are now aware of the situation with this hole so to avoid any more controversery someone HAS to fix it!!What is so bloody hard with that,I ask?I have a dog here that goes out of her way to be a 'bitch' with the neighbours dog cos of a small gap in the fenceline and I have done my best with controlling that,so come on these people can do the same thing as far as Im concerned! You LOVE your dog,you will do anything to keep her/him! Lets look at it this way, you have a fenced yard that has gaps far too small for a big dog to squeeze under but gaps all the same, you buy a small pup, what do you do? Do you go next door and ask the neighbours to stop your dog getting in to their yard or do you puppy proof your own yard??

I have seen some lovely urns and also beautiful memorial jewelery made from ashes, some lovely items are available, which personally I prefer to the idea of taxidermy. It is a personal thing, but if you have alook into it you may find something that you really do like that will be easier to keep over the years. I have seen a once beloved pet at a garage sale for a charity, the owner had passed away and the family donated it off with all her belongings, it went off to a young child as a toy, I would hate for that to happen to one of mine.
