  1. I dunno have you had a gander at some of them.....sheesh But what of those (ANKC breeders) who go about breeding dogs for colour with no regard to conformation? (hmmmm... "blue english staffies" spring to mind there). But you can't tar all breeders with the same brush can you? I'm sure there are some very shonky working line breeders out there but surely there are also some very good ones too?... Show breeders cop it from all angles almost on a daily basis on here, and after some of the posts on these forums from working line enthusiasts I feel it is only fair to slap em one when I can. Is it warranted who cares. Just recently GSDs came under fire again from our learned friend BB who slammed the show system and on and on it goes.

  3. I am banned from the reception desk some days because the other staff fear that bad things may happen :D One morning I invoiced a poor lady for a whole bottle of Drontal large dog whilst I was slamming keys on the computer, not my fault some numpty with a multishitpoo whatever was at the counter at the same time. Luckily the poor customer I was serving is a reg dog exhibitor and we all laughed afterwards.
  4. We have been having a terrible few months with wild dogs, I don't think we have had a week go by that we haven't seen a family dog or several come in for treatment (often unsuccessfully) for horrific wounds after being attacked. Livestock of course are copping a hammering, so baiting, as well as dog traps and shooters are all being used in an effort to cull them. Shooters cannot get into to the heavy scrubby areas, the dogs avoid the traps, baiting does work. I hate 1080 with a passion it is a horrific way to die, but something has to be done, so far no one is coming up with a solution.

Easy to see the problem me thinks. Irresponsible owners of dogs at a large.
  6. Some owners believe that they have failed somehow and that another person can fix the dog, hence the giving the vet the option to rehome. I couldn't do it myself but can understand why some do.
  7. Totally agree Fifi, the damage to the house is one thing, but I have seen some terrible emergency situations when the dog does terrible harm to itself. Sad for all concerned.
  8. I will never understand why people catch and release vermin.
  9. Against the rules in QLD, Breeder or person disposing of dog is responsible for transfer.
  10. Different brands of vaccine have different regimes. Your Vet uses a brand that has a 10wk final vacc for the puppy course. Nobivac is the brand.
  11. I don't like the idea of messages that may be a constant reminder of something that Jed may well want to put behind her quickly. Initials etc by all means, but the message thing ring alarm bells for me. Everyone deals with tragic events differently, but I know people who don;t want reminders in their face all the time JMO.
  12. There can be very good reasons why pups are not registered by 8 weeks, and I wouldn't disregard a breeder because they don't have the papers ready to go for you at 8wks. Not all pups are main registered and the breeder may well have not made the decisions as to the quality of each pup by then. It is quite legitimate to wait till all pups are sold and then have them registered straight into the new owners name, so papers may not be ready at time of pick up. A phone call to the registering body is all that is need to check.
  13. We have used Lenards mince for years, it does need to be used quickly or frozen straight away as it has no preservatives. As others have already said it is simply the leftover frames after they have processed the chickens for human consumption, much better quality than the scabby old boilers that are often minced whole for the pet trade. I have had the odd bad batch, but you will get that with anything you buy, including expensive meat from the supermarket. Our biggest problem is supply as the crabbers by all the frames for their pots
  14. Many breeders and exhibitors wouldn't bother with all the effort for one dog, so they walk.
  15. One of the reasons I never use hire crates.
  16. The bitchy and infighting have been going on as long as I can remember and I started showing dogs in 1970, so I really don't think that is what causes the numbers to drop. The increased cost of maintaining, showing and breeding I think contributes, it is no longer a relatively cheap weekend activity. Dog breeders and exhibitors with more than 2 dogs are being forced to move further and further out of the burbs in many areas due to the tightening on local laws, and affordable land and housing is shrinking. The restrictions being placed on many breeds, and changes to laws has meant many have walked away.
  17. Monumental cock up on behalf of the council and as far as I am concerned declaring a dog dangerous because it bites another dog is bullshit. Any dog mixup of this nature is human error and means that either procedure wasn't followed or that inadequate procedure is in place. Either way they need to lift their damn game.
  18. I have had several totally blind dogs, I have one now, we have changed nothing, she navigates up and down the stairs, in and out of her night time crate and rules the roost with the other dogs still. The only precaution we take with her is that she is locked up if the ponies are mowing the back yard so there is no chance of her being trodden on. IMO a dogs sense of smell is so well developed anyway that they do not need extra scents to help them.
  19. It is none of the Vets business, they are NOT local Law Enforcement Officers.
  20. With some dogs they just use up extra resources keeping the old body parts functioning, things start to wear out and not work properly and the body is trying to keep it all together. For some there may be an unknown health issue that is creating problems, maybe a a visit to the Vet for a good check up and maybe some blood work to see how his organs are doing. ETA in winter they do find it harder to regulate their body temperature when old, so he may be burning up lots of energy keep ing warm.
  21. It is not where you find the buyers that counts, it is how you screen those buyers.
  22. I think this is probably pretty spot on What a sad time for you, it is never easy when they go.
  23. Well said Julie, we have much to be thankful for. Thank you Qld RSPCA for being there when the animals needed fast and caring attention.
