  1. I'm not too sure about the ingrediants but my boys where and are good on it. Lestat, my Lab has been eating it for years and he has always been great on it, no hassles or dramas. Mistral, my Samoyed has eaten it for most of his 10months of life and I have loved him on it and it was the only food he would touch for a long time but I have found that since growing up a bit I have had more hassle keeping a good weight on him. Nothing else changed in his enviroment so we put it down to his food so we swapped him over to royal canin and that has solved the issue. If it was not for his weight being a little funny I would have kept him on it.
  2. My Samoyed will snuggle down next to me for a little while when we go to bed but then he will wander off and sleep in front of the door on the concrete. He was doing this from a tiny baby, he is now almost 10 months old and nothing has changed
  3. I keep mine in plastic bins and have never had an issue with it going off before. I do mix it around though each time I get in there, maybe that helps, I dont really know.
  4. Oh no that poor little guy! Sending lots of healing vibes your way, I really hope he gets better soon
  5. Normally my dogs are on Pro plan but I am starting to swap them over to Royal Canin and have been finding that wonderful, the dogs love it too so I am happy.
  6. Poor little girl, I hope the surgery goes well when she has it. She is the sweetest little darling though. You might like to come and join us in the spitz thread, we have a few other Japanese Spitz in there too and we would love to see more pics of your little Mia
  7. We have an oztrail gazebo and find it wonderful, if its raining the sides go up and we have one of those great little mats for the ground, having said that I have no idea where the mat has gotten too Its not too heavy and my OH and I can get it put up really quickly which is great. I love it. If I am on my own I need a little bit of help to get it up.
  8. I got fee chicken feet from a friend who worked at a chicken store and the dogs where in heaven, it was so funny to watch them running around with them.
  9. Husky X GSD is my guess, maybe so kelpie thrown in somewhere too. Sweet looking boy.
  10. I agree with what the others have side so far. My Samoyed has an ok recall right now (not great for the breed as they should be much better, being working dogs and all ) and getting better. I have been forced to run around like a loon trying to get him back before, I think everypne thought I had lost my mind but it does work. I now have him to the point where he wont try to dash out the door at all, but waits calmly while I step out and call him, we can now go for short walks around our property without him running off (even with roo's and ducks around) and when he does get a little distracted I call him to me, he gets a nice yummy treat and a cuddle (which he will do anything for) so far so good.
  11. Oh no that is terrible! I am so sorry, RIP Odin
  12. I love that last photo, its fantastic.
  13. cheese, broken up smacko's, chicken skin, chicken stuffing (mistral seems to prefure this over the actual chicken meat, odd little puppy), 4 legs stuff, cabanossi, diced ox heart. I like to keep it mixed up.

    Jelly

She sounded like a wonderful girl. RIP Jelly
  15. I am pretty happy with what my boys are on now. They seem happy and healthy so I would see no need to change.
  16. Yeah I am pretty sure that would stress my dogs out more then 'calm' them. Bloody stupid.
  17. I feed what my breeder recomended for my Samoyed, raw meat and pro plan puppy. I have been really happy with this mix and Mistral is growing well and looks great.
  18. Yeah that big sign would be handy LOL If it helps my boy is on Pro Plan and raw meat. He does really well on it.
  19. He also likes pumpkin. The pumpkin is cooked and pulped but the carrot is raw, more then anything the carrot is a treat. As for the BARF diet, I don't feed it to my boys so don't know much about it but this thread might help. Heaps of people feed their dogs BARF however and swear by it. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...994&hl=BARF
  20. its called evolution - Same with everything to do with animals/humans. They get used to eating something. Domesticated dogs have been eating 'dog food' for so long now that that is what is good for them now. Back when they were wild and they ate something bad for them - they died. Nowadays there are vets who help poor rover if he has eaten something bad I work at a vet clinic and we dont stock dog food and we arent sponsored by any dog food companies. We dont tell breeders/pet owners to buy 'our food' to make money for us because we dont have any to actually sell to them we just order it in as it is needed (any brand that there is). If a dog needs a particular diet whether it be renal, dental, obesity or a puppy formula we will tell them all the different varieties off prescription diets available and different brands (cheaper or expensive whatever the cliet wants). Not all vets are just out to make money, some actually care. As foor raw vs. dog food i personally have had all my pups on a puppy formula - it has all the nutrients they need, dont need to add anything. No way of getting an unbalanced diet because its all there in a little puppy biscuit! I also find when pups get to much mince it messes with their digestive systems a bit and makes constipated little puppys What on earth does evolution have to do with anything? Just because dogs are accustomed to something does not mean it is the best thing for them. In that theory then all dogs that are on raw food now, after their ancestors have been brought up on commercial food (and commercial dog food has not been around for that long at all), are not as healthy as a dog on commercial food? I would just like to state that my pup has always eaten raw meat and never had a problem, the only time he got sick was after eating tin food. And I didn't say every vet was like this, I said vets who do peddle food and push it on people for no reason.
  21. Glad you are feeling better about it. I was a basket case when I first got Mistral but I came to realise that they are pretty tough dogs, now, well I am still pretty paranoid about him doing something silly or hurting himself I think I have calmed down a little . . . . maybe I have found Mistral wont touch fruit but loves veggies, carrots are his favourite and they are good for his teeth too.
  22. Lestat, 3 seconds He is a 3 and a half year old Lab with no formal training, always trained with treats and praise. Mistral 18 seconds. Almost 8 month old Samoyed, formally training with clicker, praise and treat.
  23. I was told by a vet that my Samoyed pup would get very sick as I fed him raw meat, apparently I should have him on Science Diet, and how wonderfully helpful he happened to have it all in stock too Some people are just weird. I feed my dog exactly what the breeder feeds his dogs and Mistral is fine. I always wonder at the attitudes of these vets, (i don't see this perticular guy anymore anyway) and I have wanted to ask how on earth did dogs manage to survive for so long without all that nice expensive food they peddle
