  1. And he is in queensland! I wonder how he would cope down here
  2. Thankyou I think he is pretty darn special but he is still very much a baby, I found that at the shows this weekend when he was standing next to his half uncle Bud who is about 4 or so and its amazing to see the difference in them. At home Mistral looks big and boofy but when near another dog he seems so much like a baby still! Having said that it will be another 2 or so years before Mistral really fills out and looks like a real adult! His lines are very slow to really grow up. And yes the lack of fur is one of the things that makes them better for allergy sufferers, having said that it all depends on what the person is actually allergic too offcause.
  3. Here are two pics for you Bindii, prooving that Samoyeds are the biggest cuddle monsters ever: Curled up on my lap And sleeping with my OH Huski Hmmm I just re read what I wrote and didn't quite get across what I meant (sorry all having a slow night). What I meant was that although they don't over heat normally very easily, the coat does insulate well, it would seem that when it is very hot or with very close prolonged bodily contact they do tend to get uncomfortable and seek out cooler spots to sleep or be. Also when sleeping they do tend to prefure to be either outside or near something cool, not the kinds of dogs to seek out a warm bed like other breeds. Does that make a bit more sense? Your right, Mist can regulate his temp better then Lestat too, but also seems more inclined to cuddle when the weather is cooler rather then when it is stinking hot. They do also have a different coat to other Spitz breeds, having hair rather then fur as the top layer. Not sure if this makes a huge difference as I have not owned other breeds. Oh and as a pup Fletcher wont have the propper insulation that an adult does yet.
  4. Dont stress at all Bindii, my Samoyed was exactly the same. He loves to sleep away from us right against the front door, even in winter. They have a very thick coat even as babies and they do overheat easily. Mistral was rather stand offish for a little while and I thought that he wasnt interested in us at all but one day he just turned around and wouldnt leave us alone, now everyone can see that he is a complete mammas boy Now that he is oldder he does come up for cuddles and hugs, he just dosnt stay very long, again its just too hot for him. I am yet to meet a Samoyed that isnt totally obsessed with its humans. Dont worry he will come around, give him time
  5. Yep my boys get sardines, kippers and herrings, they love them, never had an issue yet
  6. I am so sorry for your tragic loss RIP little girl
  7. I have two boys, the desexed Lab is 4 years older then the entire samoyed and they never have issues, Mistral certainly didn't annoy Lestat when he was little and he was an insane puppy! Personally I believe it works better that way as the older, trained dog can help teach the younger one the manners it needs in life and how to behave well in the doggy world. Personally I wouldn't do it, getting two at once is just too much hassle in my mind but if you are set on it, the advice to train and work seperatly is a really good one. Time alone each to bond with people is very important. There where two GSD in Mistrals obediance class, brother and sister (wonderful dogs) and they where a serious handfull, they hated being away from each other to the point where the owners couldn't even stand on the other side of a small circle without the dogs screaming like banshee's to get to each other, they where more focused on each other then the owners. Good luck with your new arrivals, hope you can work something out that is good for all of you.
  8. That heelwork was amazing, go finland and sweden So glad I have nothing to do tomorrow so I can stay up and watch this
  9. Wow the streaming is brilliant
  10. Mistral has always been a shocking puller and he is very strong. I have been using the turn in the other direction method too and so far its been working very nicely. I find that Mistral will get very frustrated with me when I do this and quickly understands that if he wants to pee on that bush or say hello to that other dog there is no way he is going to get it unless he walks nicely. Thankfully he picked it up pretty quickly. We are still having issues, more so in high distraction areas but we are getting there slowly
  11. Both my boys get fed small meals twice a day. Dry in the morning, meat at night, my lab is 4 and my sammie is 11 months
  12. I have exactly the same problem with my Samoyed, he only does it for certain tricks like drop and sit, cant for the life of figure out why but it does get annoying. I wont treat or praise him when he barks, its not what I want and there for he gets nothing, I turn my back on him for a few seconds and then give the command again, only treating when he performs quietly. I have no idea if this would work for your dog but its been working for my boy so far
  13. If it helps at all Mistral was an absolute nightmare at that age, he is almost 12 months now and is finally settling down again. We just stuck to his usual routine, didnt give in to his demands and he soon got over it. Good luck with him
  14. I am so very sorry for your loss Rysup! RIP Paris :p
  15. Lestat is older, calmer and a Lab, so pretty easy to train and in general deal with. Mistral, being a spitz breed needs a very firm hand and i have also noticed a lot more cuddles So yes they are treated differently.
  16. Nope, my four year old Lab aquired a taste for them early and still loves them. The sneaky bugger wont go in while we are around but waits. I remember very late one night i was sitting in the lounge room watching telly and I suspect lestat thought I had fallen asleep. Up he gets and wanders towards the litter trays, very quietly opens the door with his foot and is half way in before I said anything. He jumped a mile in the air absolutly stunned, it was pretty funny.
  17. No advice sorry, just well wishes for your poor girl.
  18. My Lab Lestat is great with other dogs no matter what the size or shape and loves his kitties but any cat or rabbit, roo, pretty much any small prey animal outside and he is after it in a flash.
  19. Wow thats fantastic Shell, well done! And what a good boy Zero was, give him a nice big pat for me.
  20. We go to Symonston, CDC , with my Samoyed, we have been having a great time there. Instructors are lovely and I am finding it very good.
