Lure Coursing In Adelaide - For Non-greyhounds
Kirislin replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
see if you can organise Snook to go along as photographer, I wonder if she knows about this thread. -
I've found when I look through the siggy with the OS turned on I get a bit seasick. Has that happened to anyone else?
-
Ive done this exact thing too and usually the pics are all awful. Yes that's exactly what I got from looking at those pictures, do you think he knew you were taking the shots? Yes, I think I must have looked very suspicious, cause I was trying to look so innocent.
-
 couldn't you just see it. Work it baby, little supermodels.
-
wow. look at the beautiful sky!! Love the second pic too, she looks like she's pulling a smarty pants face, very cute. it doesn't look noisy to me.
-
He actually looks sad tlc, grief stricken almost. If I didn't know I'd think he just had some terrible news.
-
I did a funny experiment a couple of weeks ago. I put the wide angle lens on and just hung my camera around my neck so it was at waist level. I walked along and just pushed the button as I passed people. I think a few got sus of me though, and none of the photos really worked anyway.
-
Ummmmmmmmmmmm huga, is that bridesmaid wearing gumboots? now there's a story!
-
Thanks :D it's funny you know, I dont know that man but I've seen him a few times since in Coles or just in the main street, and I have to stop myself from going up and saying hello, like he's a friend, because his face is so familiar to me now.
-
I knew I had these photos somewhere but couldn't find them so remembered I'd put them in one of the challenges years ago, I found them again. do they fit this subject?
-
well I dont know if this classifies as photojournalism but I thought I'd put it up cause as tlc said, it tells a story. this dog had it's first run at the whippet race track, and was the goofiest most unco-ordinated dog I think I've ever seen, but it had the proudest most excited little owners. He was a champion in their eyes. IMG_1762 by kirislin, on Flickr

I chop and change my settings and often use manual, but I dont mean manual focus, as in, I dont flick the switch on the actual lens to turn off focusing, but I often use manual to have full control over shutter speed, ISO, WB, and aperture.
-
I know the answer to this one. NO. I started with a 400D which was a great camera for general photos, and I took some good shots with it, I then bought the top of the range 70-200 2.8 IS lens hoping to catch those elusive whippet action shots I craved, and the dear little 400D just couldn't focus fast enough, that is when I realised I'd outgrown the camera and bought the 7D. and the 7D 70-200 combo gave me shots like this. The Home Turn by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_5632dppc by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_5902dppt by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_5609dppt by kirislin, on Flickr the 400D would not have been able to focus quick enough to keep up with the lens.

Post the photos you want them to use. I dont know how to make them, I hope someone will do it for you.

you know about this thread on POTN? http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1154313 you can see some amazing photos there, and ask questions too, although be warned alot of them have a very high and mighty attitude and often like to give some pretty smart arse answers. You just have to ignore them. Dont take it to heart.

Frenchie Fun Picnic Day - Sunday 12 August
Kirislin replied to Sares's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oooooh I hope everyone takes their cameras. Frenchies are the cutest funniest little dogs, you'd get some fantastic shots. -
when I first got my 7D I used to take it to bed with me, read the manual and play with the settings in the hope that it would sink in. For alot of the time I used to say those words in the manual might have just as well been little black ants running over the page for all the sense they made to me, but gradually, with more reading, more mucking about with the controls, and lots more practice I started to get the hang of it. I'm still in awe of that camera and all it can do, and I probably haven't used a 100th of what it's capable of.

here's some more of my favourite portraits. All of the same dog, and she's not mine. It's Iggy Mums beautiful little girl Zoey, who has to be about the most photogenic little princess I've ever met. I'm not big on editing so they're all pretty much straight out of camera. actually that's really worth a try. You'll either need to shoot in RAW so you can change the white balance later or know what sort of lighting they use and set it in camera if you're shooting jpeg. You'll just need a wide enough aperture and high enough ISO to keep a fairly fast shutter speed, unless you want blur for effect.

Best way to learn is to get out of auto and start playing around with it. I always wanted to learn how to use an SLR but it was so much harder back then. I remember I used to carry a little notebook around with me and write down the settings I had the camera on, then when I got the developed film back I'd go through and write on the back of them what I'd done. I was just starting to get the hang of it and some turd stole my lovely Olympus. It's so much easier now with DSLRs though. Have fun. -
