Youtube Link: Baboons Steal And Raise Feral Dogs
Kirislin replied to koalathebear's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm skeptical about them actually raising it, I cant imagine them finding and providing it with food. My neice told me recently that when she was in Thailand she saw monkeys taking puppies up into the trees as if they were pets. She said they were careful enough not to drop the puppies, that they understood the puppies couldn't move around the trees like they could but they placed the puppies on branches where they could walk around. I thought that was pretty amazing. -
Edwina, what a cute name for a dog.

A Whippety Winters Day On Carrum Beach
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I'm not too computer savvy, I dont know the correct way to display a link so I just click on slideshow in flickr and then highlight the address line and copy to post it here, and that's how it comes out. I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by doing it that way. -
our little social whippet racing club had a members day on Carrum beach yesterday. Almost 30 whippets running free and racing each other up and down the beach made for quite a sight. There were several DOLers, Sir WJ, Beltar, Miss Whippy, Sarsanet and myself. There might have been others, I'm not sure. Anyway, I took a few photos. So did Beltar but she can explain why we wont be seeing any of hers. It has to do with a certain little Iggy with a taste for SD cards.

one of the dogs had a collar on. I dont think the baboons would have put that on it. I felt sorry for that poor little pup, I wonder why its mother didn't come rushing in when it was screaming. -
have a great time and a safe trip.

I like Luna on the long brick (concrete )road but I can see the focus point is in front of her, I dont know if that was deliberate or not, you might have mistakenly focused there or the lens is front focusing. Go back and try it again at the same time of day, I like her shadow, but this time try to make sure the focus point is on her. I like the way she is at the top of the photo and it might mean you actually have to move your focus point to there by tweaking your controls, see how the middle of the photo is in focus? I'm guessing that's where the focus point was.

Banjo was a greyhound Oh, that explains it then, sorry, for some reason I thought he was a whippet. Yes, I definitely have heard it's a danger in greyhounds.
-
Bloat!!! I know it's supposed to be common in deep chested breeds but I have never heard of it in a whippet and I've had them for close to 30 years now.
-
wow $1323 now
-
Oh how sad, Banjo wouldn't have been old, do you know what happened? Poor Gary I hope he has support now, he'd be very distraught I imagine.

Is Hendra the same as lyssavirus or is that different again because that's carried in bats and is similar to rabies too.
-
I've seen it before too. If anyone missed it last nigh you can still watch it on SBS online.

thanks Poss! I've emailed them. I'm kinda hoping it will be OK to keep. I've had a little play around with it and it works! Well, it makes a very satisfying click when I press the button. I've no idea if there's even film inside and I'm sure if there is it wont be any good now.

the lighting is completely natural and no photoshopping afterwards either. It was taken in the afternoon, when the sun was getting low, I set the white balance to cloudy which gives it that goldy yellow cast and I sharpened it a bit, no other editing was done. The conditions there are just good for taking photos. I might be going back there this Sunday for more shots but I'm thinking of just taking my 50mm and going for side on panning shots.

I've just bought myself an old film Canon FTb with a 50mm 1.4 lens, hood and leather case. I initially thought the lens might be usable on my current camera as a manual lens but I dont think it will be. I cant even figure out how to get it off the camera! I'm also a bit wary that it might have fungus although the lens looks clean enough with just a visual check. Does anyone know anything about them. I am thinking about sending it off to Canon for cleaning but it might cost more than the camera is worth, I'm not sure.

the link in this thread has a great camera simulator to help you understand how different settings work. Have a look http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/223830-very-clever-especially-for-new-dslr-owners/

I really like the first one, such pretty colours too. I've only just noticed you have a watermark, is it new or has it been there for ages, very nice anyway.
-
me too! I often say I might be "over camerad" not sure if it's really a word or I invented it. But I do love my 7D, sigh, sometimes I just gaze at it and think, you magnificent beast!
-
that could have been an absolute disaster, I'm glad he's mostly OK.
-
that's why I got it. I'd never have been able to get a shot like this with my 400D 8fps @ 1/5000th

Funny Mis-informed Things People Say About Dogs
Kirislin replied to spoilt lab lives here's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh, the smell one has reminded me of what I was told about a greyhound once. When you have your period they smell the blood and could try to have sex with you. -
Parson Russell I think - she's gorgeous! she's lovely isn't she, and plenty of leg for Corvus' requirements.
-
what a sweet little dog! he looks like an adult, is he a rescue, what is his story.

have you seen Millie in the new ABC show Kingdom, with Stephen Fry. I reckon she'd be perfect, not sure what she is though, some type of terrier I suppose.
