  1. this is a good reminder for me to clean up some stuff I have around the house. I know I have at least 3 types of snakes on this property, over the years I've seen a tiger, a copperhead and a red belly black. They're all here.
  2. I have a mattress protector but I'd taken it down to the laundrymat yesterday to wash, it cant fit into my little machine, it's on the clothes line now trying to dry in the rain. If only the vomit machine could've given me another day, time to put it on the bed, I would have felt doubly proud that I'd outsmarted them, but it wasn't to be.
  3. I bought a new mattress the other day. It came all rolled up and vaccuum packed so I put it on the lounge room floor to unfurl and relax itself. I got clever though, thinking the dogs are sure to come bounding in here with muddy feet and get it dirty, so I put a sheet over it. And was I lucky! as if on cue, Puck came bounding in, but even worse than muddy feet, he had a great big grassy clingon stuck to his bum and dropped right on my brand new mattress and drew a big brown skiddy across it. At last! I had a win, I'd outsmarted them, and the mattress was still pristine because I'd forseen a potential disaster like this happening. Much as I was grossed out by the giant skiddy I was pleased with myself for anticipating such a possibility. And that is what I'd intended to come and write about here, but this story has a sad (for me) twist. I just went into my bedroom because Tag likes to be tucked into the big bed after he's had his brekky. He knew something was up before me, usually he jumps up and I lift the covers for him to dive under, but this time just as he was about to jump, he shied away, as if to say, I'm not getting in there! Uh oh, I was filled with dread, and sure enough, I lift my beautiful heavy cotton doona to see my crisp white cotton sheets that I'd put on my lovely brand new mattress, and deposited on them was a big biley yellow vomit containing the netting that you get on some roasts. I'm glad whoever managed to get it sicked it up again, I hate to think what could happen if they didn't, but why, oh why did it have to be there. I frantically ripped the sheets off in the hope it hadn't soaked through, but of course it has. I suppose it's going to be the first of many suspicious looking stains I'll get on my mattress, why should it be any different to all the others? I kinda wish some of those stains had some happy stories to go with them, if you know what I mean, ;) who will believe me if I innocently claim, The dog did it. But it's true.
  4. I have a whippet here with large teats (nipples) and she had them even as a puppy! She's been neutered now but they're the same, they're not saggy baggys though.
  5. perhaps he was being your food taster. he was just concerned for your welfare. You should thank him.
  6. You've captured Essence of Horse.
  7. If you decide to buy from DWI watch the price fluctuations. Last week it was $1299, today it's $1314.
  8. very cute, they both have such expressive faces.
  9. congratulations it's exciting isn't it. You've got them all nice and sharp, although I'm sorry I have to say the last photo in the first set is crap!
  10. that last photo is so cute, the same expression on their faces. They dont look like them but they remind me of meerkats when they all sit in the same position to sun themselves.
  11. I want to enter the open brief now so I can get the box but they're not taking submissions yet
  12. and the lyrics (thanks to Wendy of whippet world) I’ve got a little whippet that never won a race But you never saw a whippet with a cannier looking face She’s just a bit short-sighted and it shows upon the track but when she gets her contact lenses man you’ll never hold her back I’ve got a little whippet she’s a wee bit slow and what it is about her well I just don’t know She’ll never be a canine Bridget Bardot you’ll agree But I love that little whippet and she loves me I’ve got a little whippet that never won a race I’ve got a little whippet that the pussy cats all chase Her two front legs is rather short Her back ones’ shorter still So even on the level ground she thinks she’s running up a hill I’ve got a little whippet she’s a wee bit slow and what it is about her well I just don’t know She never will be much good as a guard dog you’ll agree But I love that little whippet and she loves me I’ve got a little whippet that never won a race cause there’s something holds her back and what it is I cannot place I used to dream of having racing trophies on the shelf but it’s nae good me racing her I find I always win meself I’ve got a little whippet she’s a wee bit slow and what is is about her well I just don’t know She’ll never win a prize at Crufts I think you will agree But I love that little whippet and she loves me
  13. thanks for looking and thanks for your comments. :D
  14. they're all such great mates! Lovely photos.
  15. Congratulations, I think that will be a great start. have fun.
  16. thanks tlc, they do love it although they dont run nearly as hard or fiercely as whippets. Here's the full set.
  17. DOLer Jacobite invited me along to another deerhound and borzoi day in Toolangi. I practiced my panning shots. Alot of misses, these 2 are probably the best of the day. Difficult conditions shooting into the sun with either dark dogs or light dogs, either way it made it hard. very appropriately we even saw some wild deer! long long way off. and later in the day, to give it a more Aussie flavour, on the very same hillside Raptor deerasaurus and toothius terrabilus
  18. the 7D might be a bit too much camera for a first DSLR, unless you were really prepared to throw yourself into learning photography. what about something like the 600D http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProduct=3569 and the 50mm lens that Shell suggested. You'd also have room left over for some more lenses. maybe this one :D http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProduct=69 If you weren't insistant on Canon lenses Sigma make some pretty good ones that work well with Canon cameras. I dont have any but a few DOLers do and I understand they are very happy with them.
  19. as long as someone keeps posting the thread is still alive. you might like going back through past months threads. Ash used to set challenges designed to help us learn about our cameras and photography, composition and techniques, as well as pushing us to use our imaginations.

    Never, it seems.
  21. gee reading that it seems the father doesn't even know yet. I hope he doesn't hear about it on the news.
  22. Any idiot can own a dog, you cant legislate against morons choosing any type or size or temperament of dog and training it to do whatever they want it to, or allowing it to do as it pleases. The only time something is done about it is after an attack. I dont know what the answer is.
  23. aww thankyou! :D I had very good subject matter.
