  1. the veryfirst one I would suggest is the manual that came with it. congratulations too.
  2. yep, as crazy and idiotic as this is, that's what is believed to have happened. I feel the same as Persephone, I love foxes but they dont belong here, and I wasn't feeling too kindly towards the one/s that killed my beautiful chookies.
  3. Wow! well they're taking it seriously, I got a phone call from the ranger and I've just come back from meeting her at the park. She took a statement from me and a photo of Penny. I said to make sure she doesn't get mixed up and put Penny on file as the dangerous dog! She was a lovely girl and turns out she's really keen on whippets, so I am going to send her the link to a DOLer who's trying to rehome some whippies. We might have another convert. She was thoroughly smitten with Penny and coaxed her into her van and started feeding her liver treats, which Penny enthusiastically accepted. I told her I am really impressed with the change in attitude of the rangers. I told her how a few years ago I had wandering dogs on my property who would growl and bark at me while I was on my property. When I rang the ranger he said I would have to catch the dogs before they'd come out. She said it's different now because women are doing the job.
  4. You have my sympathy, I've fairly recently had my two old whippet girls fight. It's only happened twice in their lives but the warning signs were there before, I just didn't really notice them. I have Penny who considers herself the alpha and smaller younger Kibah who has designs on the top job. I have to watch them carefully and not let them get into a situation where one feels it can or needs to challenge the other. After the first fight I started back to basics, training them to sit, and wait for their dinner. If one has something I wont let the other steal it (if I can help it, that's how the last fight started, just a lapse in concertration from me.) I really re inforced their recall and for a while crated them at night, although I've since relaxed that and they're both sleeping in my bed again. Even that, though I have to be careful with. If Penny is already in bed and Kibah jumps up, she has to be careful that she doesn't go near Penny or Pen will glare at her. I always tell Penny to stop that behaviour but I also try to avoid it happening in the first place. You have to re assert your position, so that what you say goes. I am not expert, I am sure others with more experience will give you advice. Good luck with it. I know how shocked, devastated and worried it makes you feel.
  5. thanks Trish. I've been to the council offices and reported it. The lady took notes and said they cant do anything with the scant info I've given but they'll keep it on record and perhaps a pattern might form if there are other reports on this dog.
  6. Thanks so much for the good wishes for Penny. Her Ladyship hasn't emerged as yet this morning but got lots of cuddles overnight and didn't seem to have any problems breathing. I'll see how she is once she wakes up and tries to eat. She wont be going on any walks until I can put her collar back on though. I must admit I feel a bit apprehensive about seeing that dog again because I know now it just runs up and after a couple of seconds of tough girl posturing attacks. I'll be on guard if I see it again, I dont think I'll wait to see how it reacts next time. I might just start putting the boot in first. I've been going to that park for almost 12 years now and this is only the second time we've had a problem. It's usually such a friendly place, the regulars amongst us even go out to dinner, and we all met purely through walking our dogs at the park. The woman who owns that dog wont be getting an invite though.
  7. She does a bit. How old is Prinny and do you know her breeding, they might be related. Penny is a pedigree but there's not much around these days with her bloodlines. She is getting on in years but I dont think she looks her age.
  8. Awww thanks for the good wishes, they are much appreciated. We're back from the vets. When I told Brett how I yanked her he said I wouldn't have known my own strength with something like that. I probably could've lifted a bus. He listened to her airways and gently examined her throat and neck and even tested her with some liver treats to see how she swallowed. She did show a bit of difficulty but managed to eat them. She has some swelling that makes her look like one of those bos indicus cows with the dewlap, but he thinks it's all just soft tissue damage. He said the only way to really know is to knock her out and he thinks it's not warranted at this stage. He said the cartliage felt normal so he's given her an antiinflam injection and she's to have soft food for the next few days. Thankfully she looks to be OK. Lucky she's in such good health, if she was a frail old girl (she's 11 1/2) it could've been much worse. I told Brett how I was so angry I was imagining myself tearing the dogs jaws from it's head. He smiled and said it's unlikely I'd manage it, but did say if ever a dog is latched onto one of mine squeeze it's airways right up at the junction of head and neck. Dont try to prise the jaws apart cause you'll just get bitten, go for the airways and it will eventually have to take a gasp. I hope it never comes to that.
  9. Thanks, we're booked in for 6.15 and Brett the Vet is wonderful so hopefully if there's anything at all wrong he'll know what to do.
  10. I wasn't going to write about what happened today because every day someone says their dog was attacked at the park but now I have to take Penny to the vet and I am worried about her and we want some positive vibes. A red cattle dog running loose dragging its lead ran up to Penny today and attacked her while I had her on the lead. I instinctively wrenched her away but in doing so I think I've damaged her neck :D After it happened I then roared at the dog to F^&k off and kicked at it and it went for me. By then the kid had caught it and dragged it away, then I turned my attention to Penny and she was making this horrible squeaking sound. I calmed her and she seemed to be Ok but this evening she had trouble eating and is now making that reverse sneezing sound alot so I've just booked her into the vet. Finger crossed I haven't crushed something important in her throat. My poor darling girl here's my beautiful girl so you can direct those good vibes.
  11. When I saw the first one I thought it was just an illusion, that he was really standing on the wall but then I scrolled down. What a good doggy, yes amazing Feats of Balance and he has amazing Feets of Balance
  12. You're doing great. Just try to keep those cute little ear tips in the picture as well.
  13. You take the most beautiful photos Terra but I think this might be my fave, for now that is.
  14. He's a lucky boy, and to your Ex for spotting it and doing the right thing, getting him help in time.
  15. Whoa really?! yeah thats not good, Id be super peed off. Do you mean the one on YouTube? Yeah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbtuHxxoWCw...feature=channel
  16. Hey! guess what Bec, Canon has given you credit for the rockpool photo too! I just watched it and it said you took it. You didn't did you? I wonder if the real photographer knows. Maybe you should let Canon know, I'd be very disappointed if I'd taken it and they made that mistake.
  17. Oh yes, it's been on youtube for ages. It's just more of a buzz seeing it on telly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiW8kR0OXF4
  18. F = Family. Mother and daughter having snuggles together.
  19. Annie, you need to open the can (and heat the soup) before putting it in the bowl
  20. did they ever recover the 8th? I couldn't find anything on it. I'm thinking it's probably bad news.
  21. How's the diet going for this dog? Have you cut its food back, has it lost weight?
  22. Well, it took a couple of weeks for all of mine to get the hang of the doggy door but now they have it's wonderful. For the last 25 years I've had to get up several, sometimes many times during the night to let dogs in and out for toilet breaks, even though I'd make sure they all went last thing before bed. It's been worst since I have 5 dogs. Sometimes I'd be up 6 or 7 times a night and even then still wake up to accidents in the hallway. Nursing mothers only have to put up with interrupted sleep for a year or so but I've done it for a quarter of a century. Now finally my dogs all use the doggy door and I can sleep! It's amazing!
