August Photography Challenge - Everyone Welcome!
Kirislin replied to Ashanali's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Oooooh! -
Wow! I never knew it was so serious. I used to hear vets speak of it like it was just a slight inconvenience but not a real worry.
-
What I was meaning/wondering though is often they have that period after the seizure where they're disoriented and confused and they can be unsteady on their feet. That's what I am wondering if I am witnessing.
-
No I awoke to the sounds of him upchucking and he deposited a stinking pile of spew on my bedroom floor. I wondered if it was caused by him feeling "seasick" though, he was so wobbly.

this is basically how I've found Tag, so whether or not he's had a full blown fit and this is the after effects or maybe this is as bad as his gets I dont know. It might not even be epilepsy, I just have to watch for now, and possibly get some bloods done the eliminate other possibilities, but I want to talk to the vet about that.
-
I wanted to ask the vet if he thinks I should get a blood test for Tag but the receptionist didn't know. I will try again later. Tag has been fine ever since.

Molly Having Annual Epilepsy Check Up
Kirislin replied to Dog_Horse_Girl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
best wishes to Molly. I think I have an epileptic whippet -
I hope if the poor little dog doesn't make it she never gets another.
-
thanks Poodle(whippet)fan, springdog and Oakway. That's encouraging to hear about your boy Springdog, I haven't had him tested as yet Oakway. I took him to the vet after the first suspected fit and the vet said it's wait and see for now, he said it might be the only one he has. He said I need to document when I think he's had them and if it becomes more frequent then he'll do some tests. I need to say I've never actually seen him having a fit, just these odd dizzy spells that I suspect are the aftermath. I will try to speak to him today just to let him know I think Tag's had another and I will ask him about a thyroid test. Right now Tag is tucked up in my bed and seems fine. It's the routine here, when I get up he gets in my bed, he loves it.

she reckons not fully. i asked is there a way to make it close up fully and she said no. It cut actually extended right down to the bottom of the pad (i missed that) but she said it was healing great. She also said they could cut it back open but i failed to see how that was going to help the 'flap'. Do you think i should see another vet? I wondered about re cutting it because from the photos it looks like the edges have healed and calloused up and I wondered if they cut it back to raw flesh would it seal, but I am not a vet so I dont know. I would definitely be keeping it clean, and covered from now on though and absolutely no running on it, better still not even much walking for a good while.

Oh dear, I think it's happened again. I was just starting to relax and forget about it, well, at least push it to the back of my mind and then last night I woke to the sounds of him throwing up. I leapt out of bed, too late of course to avert disaster, but ushered him outside and noticed he was all wobbly again just like last time. I am wondering if vomiting is common after a seizure, because he was so unsteady on his feet, I wondered if it was like motion sickness. My poor boy. I put him to bed and he slept very deeply for the rest of the night. I got up to check him a couple of hours later and he was so deeply sleeping he didn't even stir when I touched him. He seemed a bit subdued this morning but perked up when we went to the park and he seems perfectly normal now. I haven't taken him to the vet but I've noted it down and if it happens again within a short space of time I will take him to the vet. He was my healthiest dog, no injuries, lovely conformation, super, super fit, and now this.

Did the vet think it will close up?

Burn Or Reaction To Injection?
Kirislin replied to moosepup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
wow, I am stunned at how long this has been going on for you. You first posted on June 6th! What a horrible ordeal, I am so glad he's finally healed, the brave little trooper. -
If it's an old wound and already healed split like that I think it will cause problems for her. If it's still healing, I would be bandaging it and keeping her off it, not letting her run at all but really, I think you need to take her to the vet, the only thing I might be reluctant to do is get it stitched, only based on past experience though.

Updates On Starting On A Barf Diet
Kirislin replied to tasha's mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
actually, looking at those photos again, if anything the other dog looks like a bit of a chubster rather than him being too thin. Maybe it's because I have whippets and I like to see a lean muscled build but most people think my dogs are thin. -
Ewww that's a huge split! Are you sure it's still an actual wound, it hasn't healed like that has it, because if it has I could imagine it would cause problems, possibly corns which can be painful. It looks like an old wound to me because the edges appear calloused. Even if it's fresh, then I think a cut that big would be painful. I think I'd be getting veterinary advice on what to do with that. Glad you posted pics.

yep you did, I'm not good with stuff like this but I am finding the tutorial a bit better although there's still stuff there I've no idea what she is talking about.
-
Does anyone use the software that comes with your camera, such as DPP or Picture Style editor? I never hear mention of them but I am trying to work through a tutorial on DPP at the moment. I suspect there's alot I can do with my images to improve them if I just learnt the damn stuff that's already available.
-
could there be glass or some other foreign body stuck in there to cause the pain?
-
Hopefully the breeder of your puppy will help you here. Kangaroo might be too lean for a little puppy. I know some people steer clear of raw chicken for very young pups because it's supposedly higher in bacteria but I dont know how true this is. I feed lots of fruit and vegies both cooked and raw, they've all just been snacking on raw pumpkin. Dont give onions or grapes though. Mine love most fruit and vegies though. When I bred puppies I had them on 3 feeds per day when they went to their new homes at 8 weeks. I suggested continuing that until they were 6 months old and then dropping back to 2 feeds per day. I am not a vet though, it's just what I did.

Being desexed wont necessarily stop that behaviour. see here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=172551
