  1. Granted Tess32 you offer advice (even on your site) ..but there was no bitchiness here nor a disparative comment in here regards your financial circumstances, just advice. You took exception to that advice in a sensitive manner and then brought it down to a level about arguing about the the have and have nots. You made the primary judgmental comment about peoples financial status/gear vs ability. Everyone here is at different levels of learning and different degrees of experience, business and otherwise... You had to know that was in itself a nasty statement that would raise ire. In pointing to other photographers in itself you were (maybe unintentionally) inferring that someone in this lovely forum fit that bill. You were called on that comment. ...and personally id like to see you next comment being about something positive like good news about your d50 camera!
  2. A friend just emailed me about her friends dog (known to me)a cairn terrier mix who after a few hours after the annual vaccination went stiff and collapsed. She represent the dog and he was injected with a substance( cortisoid or antihistamine?)which saw the dog make good recovery. Her daughter was very upset about it and as her dog was due for its annual shot the following week was going to enquire with her vet (a different one to her mother dog usual vet)as to what happened. Trouble is her dog exhibited the same symptoms post vaccination and too had to be represented following collapsing and going "stiff" Has anyone heard of this before?? What are the chances of two dogs being sensitive? My friend asked me ...I have only seen it once in vet nursing...how common is this?? I said Id ask this to a wider panel of experience.
  3. Lovely pics Panto. The wonderful effort to get these guys back on track has been simply wonderful. Well done all involved! Its just lovely to see them bloom into the dogs they are meant to be. Congratulations!
  4. Im just loving the color of the beetle/bug on the aloe flower. Just beautiful.
  5. So sad to hear of you loss of your beloved Henry. Im sure when he came to you he knew and lived the rest of his life knowing he had found not just love but had finally come to a place that was all home should be. RIP Henry. (Hug) Winterpaws.
  6. There sometimes seems no limit to the cruelty man can inflict upon such innocent creatures. Heres hoping the surviving puppy lives a life long, carefree and enjoyable that wasnt granted to his littermates. RIP sweet innocents.
  7. Shell I didnt know you had a lappie!! Congrats :)
  8. Im not so much a poodle in character....my two are drama queens with high maintenance curly hair. Think Im more likely to be seen with a working breed, kelpie or coolie. Hardworking, no fuss hair and get really into things that raise my interest. No special requirements for fancy accessories, likes to please.
  9. I have a often experienced a divided household. My dogs are expert of working a crowd and in my household Luci has found sanctuary of late with my son. If she is up to something I disapprove she positions herself by his side looks at me with the "Im with him" gaze. She then looks at me then back at my son with the "puss in boots" innocent look as if to say "she is so cruel tell her how wrong she is..." My son will often pat her and then commence a case worthy of the finest lawyer!!! She even gets defended if i decide to bath her...my son will question as to how cold it is! Im happy that Luci has trained my son to be her best bud because before she came along he was a strict cat only person. Being limited to a choice of pet we were always going to be a dog household. She has him wrapped around her paw.
  10. Ive heard only good reports, never used the service myself though.
  11. I have been so busy of late I haven't had time to pick up the camera for myself. I have been busy with doing photos for friends & a small favor for work, all taken as just opportunities they have offered me which have allowed me have a go at different situations. By far its been fun but lets say I have much more fun doing it for myself. I'm fast learning to deny such time consuming opportunities! Im behind, so heres a self portrait done at my work thingy....I just love green pythons! I had to set up my tripod & have a volunteer hit the shutter (thats when you find how many snake phobes are in the room ) My second love is the Bredl python, later that day I had one draped on my arms and tripod...such lovely animals.
  12. Just caught this thread, how great are the pictures of kids and their beloved dogs. I think dog ownership is very character building, and that kids that have a heart for dogs grow into more feeling adults.
  13. Maybe it's time to take a deep breath and chill out a bit. This is clearly a subject you're pretty sensitive about and I think you're over-reacting to what's been said. Using evidence that crap photographers even get jobs is hardly something you'd use as a business mantra on your website is it  Take your own advise Tess...chill, you have acknowledged that despite KJA explanation of good practice (which you havent refuted other than to add you cant see your way to do it) stop bagging "other photographers" which makes most people in this forum sensitive, as does your comment about the "7D and fancy bag" (hardly random) Success in business requires sometimes to learn to listen to other peoples prospective, mentoring is invaluable. Being successful at something is not just attributed to skills. Its easy to set your standard by the lowest common demoninator, hardly good business sense though. Back to topic, I hope your camera gets fixed and you dont make a habit of exposing it to water, the 50d body isnt designed for that, unlike the more weather built models which have much better sealing.
  14. I will make that decision if need be Redangel and will do right by her. On a brighter note, Mum just dropped in and saw Cookie for the first time since the other night. She couldn't believe the difference and also, while Mum was here, Cookie stretched out her back legs for the first time since she's been here. I hadn't seen her do that before. Hoping things go well for Cookie, I think if you asked for xrays your vet should have honored your request. I dont see it was unreasonable request on your part. Glad to hear some you see some improvement & that on revisit the vet will be more proactive.
  15. I get random food items in my bed & on my pillow. Occasionally she brings me a huntsman it stresses me no end.
  16. I'm sorry you're having camera problems, and I'm glad it's sorted itself out now. I'm really hoping the bolded comment is just a generalisation and isn't directed at anyone on DOL. I've always liked coming to photos on DOL cause I've found it to be a friendly place. Here Here Kirislin ...and lets keep it that way. It is a friendly place where we all share ideas, images and experience.
  17. Such an amazing breed. They have such distinctive features. Thank you for sharing pics of your lovely new family member.
  18. I dont think KJA was being personal Tess, it was I believe constructive criticism. Its just that if you are asking for money for a service you need to be able to deliver that service...what if the camera broke during a shoot that cannot be replicated, people get disappointed and its not like photographers are avail at short notice. Its a lose lose situation. The people wanting the shoot get punted as they miss out on their photos and you also lose because bad rep follows you everywhere. A close friend of mine was given a gift voucher for 300.00 for "pet photography". The person had already collected the dollars. Getting the photographer to the house was difficult (my impression was the photographer was doing it aside from the day job for added income) When she came and I was showed the proofs focus was dodgy, dogs eyes were squinty (happens when placed in full sun on a bright day despite the owner suggesting this was likely) She was sooo disappointed. In an email back to my friend she stated "how can I help your dog squints in the sun!!" Consequently her dog club & fellow friends were told of this girl...seriously doubt she will be marketing her service in that area again. Im not saying you are a poor photographer,I adore your zoo shots.. but I think KJA was helping you by offering good advice from experience. Say for instance this girl my friend used had a camera fail (no backup) and the dog died before it was repaired..yes extreme case but could you imagine the disappointment. Edit add: If someone was inexperienced, cashed up and using a 7d and taking cash for shoots with no backu why wouldnt you assume people wouldnt offer the same advice as given here??
  19. If the vet has diagnosed a broken back without an xray, the spinal column must really have a deviation in it. An animal will struggle to live even when the prognosis is poor. I hope kitty is on pain medication. Being bright and happy at the head end means nothing in comparison to pain and quality of life. I know you invest your heart K9Angel but I do hope you can find it to make a decision if need be. Discs can resolve, broken backs dont. Not having pushed for an xray I feel was denial on the vet and yourself. You cant hope for what you cant see. Life sux. Personally I would have pushed for an xray, then you know effectively what you are dealing with. Surely the regular vet you see could have afforded an xray at a discount price due to the status of the kitten.
  20. I think you should get another camera & repair the 50d. The other night I agreed to take pics for a friend (not a booked shoot and took along a friends camera as well as my own just in case...Murphy law says gear will let you down when you most dont want it to! Im not pro or taking bookings, I would expect it is mandatory to expect a back up camera. Im sorry your camera let you down, but if its your primary camera and you are booking 'shoots" its has obviously had alot of work. Fingers crossed a repair will happen. Edit add: "It appears to be 'back'...I think it got wet and needed to dry." It is my impression cameras hate water, and the body of the 50D is not weather protected. I would be concerned for the reliability of this camera from hereon
  21. I plan my general menus so to allow for extra servings for the dogs, carefully omitting those ingredients dogs are sensitive to. Tonight was a no scraps night, just a raw/dog food/veg mix...the looks i got as I set down dinner was almost despairing.
  22. I have a very steady hand...I think Ive mastered the hold n breathe technique in hand held shooting. I persevere, accept my oppsies and move on acknowledging its part of learning.
  23. Id separate the dogs for those times initially when they are left alone. I have owned big dog/small dog combinations it can be worked. This kelpie is only 7 months old and is a real boisterous teenager. Kelpies thrive on working & exercise, it is important to get a balance of both. Good companion dogs need to be taught to be so. Lack of attention may not be the issue, lack of formal training is. Cute pups turn into cute boisterous adolescents which then might turn into hard to control adults. Playing/roughhousing with other like sized dogs is ok, but manners/boundaries still need to be taught. Good dogs dont grow up they are raised. I would recommend formal training. Hard yards put in early will continue to reap benefits for the rest of the dogs life. If the OP situation has changed to the degree that the dog is becoming a burden for which extra time cannot be afforded to look towards some formal training, perhaps she is right in deciding it needs rehoming rather than wait until the dog is older.
