Question For If One Day I Decide To Rescue A Dog
redangel replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
I recommend the advise above...I remember when I was looking for a dog. I attended the aaps with references in hand...certificates in hand from dog training courses, dog obedience title paperwork (for my last dog owned), a letter of ref from my boss (a vet I was working as a vet nurse then) and I came across a person who "couldnt find me a suitable dog" either. Granted I was renting at the time, but it wasnt that big an issue surely. I cant judge if the person you have seen decisions were based on fact or their attitude, but I think you will do well from a well run rescue organization. Edited: remove sig -
If they want to help this puppy perhaps they should start taking it away from the lab for periods of time, gradually lengthening the time, using positive reinforcement to hold is attention away from the fact it is away from the other dog. Invest in a dog behaviorist and commit to some training/obedience...seems to me this dog hasnt found its purpose or an active role in its household. How could it? Its boundaries and positive contact has all come from the other dog, now its only craving what it trusts. What they need to commit to is time: having a dog is more than a night stroll with pup on a leash. Maybe they need to send the Lab away temporarily so they can solely focus on correcting this mistake they have made. Any case, they need to commit time to this or the battlew is lost before it starts

and they know they're at fault so they think they need to find it a new home - even if that new home is the pound. (Quote) Can u see anything wrong with this picture? a. The poor hapless pup has done nothing wrong: they accept is it their fault, and apathetically think they are powerless to do anything to correct this, such a a commendable attitude (insert sarcasm here) b. The pound is not a home. It is a dumping ground (with exceptions) for poor half grown dogs that have had ignorant , then apathetic owners who want to clean the slate (and their lives) of the furry mistake they have made. c. With respect to statistics many of these people go on to get another puppy of another breed with the misconception that maybe it was the pups breed or misbreed was a major contributing factor to the 'mistake". Hindsight after the puppy is altered once the mistake is 'rehomed' and not around anymore. d. "Didnt have time for it " and "it never bonded to us" is contrived B#!T that is the most overused phrases in the shelter drop off lines........ e. How would their judgement of a "good home" factor into this??? lets face it they thought they were doing this pup a favor???? So sick of it...I have a relative that has so far rehomed 5 such dogs that failed to raise themselves into well socialled and trained animals for them. I have a dream..a dream where people like this could be registered and banned from dog ownership until they have been 'correctly dog socialized"...unfortunately there isnt a pound big enough to house these people until they do. I pray this pup gets a second chance with a real dog person who understands dogs are not akin to whitegoods in the home.

Personally yes the dog could have been trained better. Yes some dogs have the perfect life, the perfect owner. But in the real world not all people are perfect, nor are dogs. Thankfully love is there for all of them. I was the proud owner of a terrier cross who despite holding obedience titles and being much loved ate through a car interior, died of old age with anxiety issues which included being left alone. He was not perfect. He came to me damaged from an unknown past, but was loved and would have died protecting me. Perfection is impossible to find, let procure. The pounds are full of people who didnt endure or love enough: John Grogan loved Marley. How typical is it of people is some forums to voice the opinion on something they havent researched or read. John never made excuses for his dogs skills. Read his column collection. "Please don't leave me to wallow in my own superiority complex, I was hoping for constructive dialogue." - drmcpike : Dedicated to those who think they are are the sum of "whats right". OP: I think the eulogy was beautiful.

Nikon’s equivalent is “continuous servo AF.”

Jules P I am so sorry for your loss. I advise a line search of your yard/shed (under the house if it is accessable to dogs) to ensure there is no chance of a snail/rodent bait around. I would do this routine in case someone in your area is a serial baiter. Please report to authorities if this is the case. It is rarely a one off situation. Hugz to you at this time, keep strong knowing you & Brock shared many special times together.

Because I was researching the availability & bloodlines of my breed of choice I was seeking to purchase. I stayed because of the humor & information I read everytime I log on.

As it is always the corner with the lock slider...could it be caused by a misalignment of the contact strips in the camera bay??? Has anyone heard of this before?? Recommended repairers???

I have just become the owner of another broken sdhc card. I have a d90 which I have been very satisfied with, bar one thing....I seem to break cards. The corner opposite the cut corner edge (if that makes sense) keeps breaking off. The first time it took forever to get the piece out of the card bay. The second card thankfully broke after I removed from the card load bay. This one a lexar 8gb card, not even 6 months old broke off,in the same place in the camera card bay. I remove the card from the camera to d/l and put into a reader. Then back to the camera. In pretty much use my camera daily. Is this the lifespan one would expect from a card??? At this rate I think Ill research cameras with a different card type. The last card cost me $70.00. If this is normal, well so be it. I just want to know if it is normal.

Sorry for your loss. When my 14yr old poodle lost her best canine buddy, I found she became clingy to me. When I went to work I gave her my jumper to sleep on, hoping the scent of me would be calming. In time against what I thought was my better judgment I bought her a companion. It was the best thing- it added a zing back into her day. That being said, the timing was right I had a period off work at the time which enabled me to socialise them slowly: I didnt want to upset my old girls world a second time. It was healing to me to see her not alone. Maybe that was the key, maybe my old girl was picking up on my loss. Be there for your dog where possible.

I love how no matter how we end up, if the photo is good and the camera is safe it was a successful mission!

Yesterday I was taking photos in a very damp wetlands setting. Had to prop myself in a very awkward position to get a shot...composed the shot, refocused, slowly went to put the shutter down....and a darn mossie decided he was going to make breakfast of my trigger (shutter) finger. I managed to get the shot all while aware this little B&%!#@y insect was going for his life! Made me think that many of you have taken photos 'under sufference...sharing helps!

Some of the local photo machines have weird calibration.(ie settings) In your case if you are viewing it on a LCD monitor the setting is much brighter and backlit than most calibrated monitions so dark appears darker in print. Using a calibrated monitor to an equally calibrated printer solves this. I calibrated my monitior with a spyder tool & took some sample shots to test it to get settings truer to print. That being said I use a printer such as Digitalworx to process my photos, much better result. My local printer agency uses the same jpeg and all comne out with a blue cast to them. Im definitely not an expert, but my solution worked for me.

I constantly talk to my Luci & Rosie, they have a wide vocabulary. I say slippers, I get slippers. I say get the phone, they retrieve my handset. I say who's there? they go look out the window. I tell them to wake the kids up, they will depending on who I nominate. I often say thank you to them. Luci used to react if I say "excuse me?"...she would know what she was doing what was inappropriate and change her behaviour. Made that mistake in company (ppl I didnt know) and ended up getting greasy looks...they didnt assume I was talking to the dog. Embarrasssing, so now I make the throat clearing sound..works the same and no strange looks!!!
