  1. Strangely enough I have read the ingredients of z/d and apparently it has some ingredients that are not exactly recommended for any dog according to some forums and assessments...im not sure how true this is. This is the first time I have heard of z/d. How does one control the ingredients of a manufactured food? SAS I am interested in this Nutriscan. Due to having several dogs and one on a food restriction test...it is proving a real task. Mainly because food control is a real challenge in a multidog household! Im like the sergeant major of canine food provision. Do you purchase the back and send back for analysis? Is it a vet only product? Where is it accessible in Australia? I intend to complete the food intolerance test, but willing to look at this option as well.
  2. oh and I forgot to ask...why is kangaroo mince a no no? Why must it be muscle sections?
  3. Thank you everyone for your advice. I am really concerned as she had a outbreak the other day and well she has a section about inch x half inch bald angry and looks like elephant skin. This area is in her armpit. I am happy to go to a dermatologist when the time comes I have spent hundreds at the vet in skin washes, anti flams, antihistamines. I dont want to go to a specialist only to be told for the first session to do an allergy diet. I am keeping a diary. I am concerned she is causing more aggravation to the affected area when I am not home. without stimulis she seems to lick n chew a lot more. The other dogs will try to lick her affected part...she is happy to ask them to do so. I thought of an Elizabethan collar to stop her from licking and chewing...but that doesnt stop her back leg! She doesnt chew lick much when I am home, if she does she goes out of my sight to do it. She is a toy poodle Trinabean. I would appreciate any information sheets about such a diet. I have comtemplated the cleaning products I use...I must admit Im a clean freak so floors and carpets are done daily, the carpets washed 6 monthly the dogs bedding weekly..etc... I am open to suggestions on cleaning without chemicals. I dont treat for fleas as I havent seen a flea for 4 years. Oh and yes Christina this is doing my head in...owned over twenty poodles, never had an allergic dog before. I recently recounted buying her a red rubber chew toy as a gift...talking to a friend I recalled how dog dermatologists say things like red plastic bowls were very good at triggering allergic reactions...so red rubber ducky has gone Then I noticed how she chews the plastic pegs off my airer...we now are noting this and checking pegs. Oh and because she sleeps under my doona...im rethinking if it may be an issue. Ducky and doona are new about the time this started. But I am grasping at so many things...I dont want nor can keep this dog in a bubble! (she might well be allergic to that too) Should after her next vet visit check go down the specialist path, can anyone please give me advice as to what he/she might want to know...what likely diagnosis methods used. Again thank you all very much.
  4. Ok after changing my apparently allergy prone dog to grainfree diet, skin scrapings, antihistamines, antibiotics, antifungals and anti mange medications we are still getting "flare ups". We use a soap free wash with no perfume. The hair is trying to regrow only to get a "flare up" which seems to put all the good back a few steps. No allergies recorded in her lines. We cannot find the source of the flare up. Dog now goes from slightly itchy to a flare up -itchy all night with hair loss. My next aim is an allergy diet. Introducing a protein she hasnt encountered (kangaroo is all i can think of) and I believe the other constituent is a carbohydrate. I was thinking maybe sweet potato. Has anyone undergone the task of putting their dog a strict allergy diet before? What were the ingredients used? If I cant get any positives my next theory is to foster her to see if there is a trigger specific to my house.
  5. Just an update...after a grainfree diet change, long course of antibiotics, antiflams (corti)advocate (though skin scraping was neg)and a special Medederm wash the poodle I spoke of has improved. Last clip saw the coat glossy and the coat now is not breaking off but thickening and requiruing clipping! Bald areas are still there but not as angry. Odor has gone. Still treatments to go...but looking more positive as time goes by. I was wondering how the OP dog was going???
  6. Bless all who helped these dogs. RascalmyShadow so sorry to hear of the passing of your cat as well as that of Bobbie. You have a big heart taking on an oldie, who left this world feeling loved and special.
  7. This morning I spent a good 15 minutes trying to convince the dogs to go out for morning wees. I watched as they did their best to avoid wet feet syndrome. Rosie is a "all in kinda dog" she jumps into an area gets the job done and her feet almost don't touch the ground as she rushes indoors. Zoe is a "little by little" she eases onto the wet grass off the concrete ever so slowly as if she is walking on broken glass. She then proceeds to swap feet holding at least one foot in the air at a time and her "bits" rarely lowered down, if she can do it standing up she will. Luci however is a real winter pro...shes a "leaner"...she runs up quick as she can turns and hangs the important part over the edge of the path, hovering high over the grass ...and then bolts inside. Is anyone else got a dog that has morning walk style?
  8. In light of these attacks & the rising amount of severe injuries...likely with ongoing problems for earnings etc...in the case of a human I foresee it wont be long until dog registrations are raised to include mandatory insurance, yes it wont help those who don't register, ( a penalty to those who work hard to make their dogs good companion animals) but none the less Im sure it will become a reality one day.
  9. Sadly everyone will focus on the breed rather than the deed & what circumstances led to it.
  10. I think that the idea of them not reporting other attacks is a croc. Of course they all get reported! If a dog bite comes into a hospital details are taken. Local media always reports these things.. The larger media only gets involved if there is a public attack as this one was involving several people & ambulance attendance/and or a death/near death is the result. Unfortunately by weight a HA bull breed (and if more than one dog is involved) will likely do more damage than a HA chihuahua. I believe this to be the difference, though conspiracy theory's will always be raised. When a infant child was killed by a fox terrier it made the news as well...didn't see all the fox terrier people cry conspiracy.
  11. Personally I don't care what breed they are, I think as they are they a risk to society in this case and I think should be destroyed. The "label" put on the dogs is always open to conjecture as there are so many crosses in this would lets face it unless they are papered, what they are is anybody's guess and nobody would be right...its a lottery. Debating it is a waste of breath as everyone will make up their own minds to the breed. What is important is the fact of the deed that has been done, regardless of breed. I think people percieve the pro bull breeds people get the opinion that they are more worried about labels than deed as this is generally the more talked about issue when something like this crops up. Even here, before i log on this forum I know what is going to be talked about. As for lamenting that the poor dogs should have been contained,if a dog cannot be trusted in the open with contact with people well personally the dog isnt truly domestic and keeping it locked up is a sitting timebomb...where & when is irrelevant. Accidentally getting out happens. As for the dogs I believe that they were not born by breed to behave like this. In my opinion many situation like this stem from dogs originating from being ill raised or overbred BYB dogs possibly of unknown/unchartered temperament. These poor dogs were doomed from the start if any of these factors were the case... factor in a possibly uneducated owner and well this may well be the result of that. Im sorry that these dogs are facing death because of the situation but I feel unless it can be proved rehabilitation is possible and sought- maybe it is what is needed. The current report is stating that the breed is a bull breed, possibly amstaff or pitbull...the one thing that cant be denied it is a bull breed x by the photos. Now the patient in the latest report on tv is reportedly recovering from bites so deep, they near penetrated the heart If this is the case a child would most likely have been killed given the same situation. My mantra would be if I had a dog in my keep that is unprovoked human aggressive I would opt pts. There are too many deserving dogs with good natures pts every day that need a good home. My sympathy is with the jogger who seems to be a innocent victim here.
  12. Love this! I often hear people who are learning photography go on and on about "what they need to buy" to get the shot. Take for instance the humble nifty 50...small expense big results. I do believe that it is entirely possible to have the best kit as a beginner/novice and still get less than satisfactory results. Camera records the scene & conditions...but ultimately its the photographer that "takes" the shot. great share pers.
  13. Oh my, I am just struck by what you have been told. What a horrible shock this must have been. RIP Shelby. I am so sorry for your loss.
  14. Omg..Earl...look at that face!!!! Rosie is sooo kelpie, I love the keen spirit of the kelpie. I owned one for 15yrs and I must say she was the most people pleasing dog I have ever owned.
  15. Im sorry your household is grieving the loss of two much loved dogs. I know from experience of losing three old poodles in a month how overwhelming it can be. Together again at Rainbow Bridge. Sympathy to you & your family.
  16. What an incredible looking boy, I am sorry for your loss. May the upcoming days be warmer with the memories of your time together. RIP Jensen.
  17. Kirislin sometimes if I post more than once in a thread I opt not to have my siggy like sometimes when I am feeling it it too distracting, like in Rainbow Bridge. :) Love the head on the white paws Staffyluv...too cute.

  21. Question as a general member of the public can one just approach the RSPCA and ask for a confirmation and not only ask but get a reply?
  22. Jed I was asking the same thing here...My link
  23. Yes I agree on that.... I am dubious about petitioning, but then again as evidence has shown some MPs are either not interested or have financial interest in things that would not put them in a position to contest an arguement of merit...but none the less people approaching the MPs directly would have more effect than names on a page under a blanket statement.
