  1. You could also add some statistics about the number of pups/ dogs that don't find homes and so get PTS every year.
  2. I have 2 - my Deerhound without bone cancer and my Lappie with a slightly less undercoat or an enjoyment for being groomed!
  3. I thought I would try agility with my Lappie. The only problem is that she has never jumped at all - she climbs. She will wade through creeks and ditches but I don't think I have ever seen her actually jump. I can get her to put her front feet up on things but that is all. She has been checked by my vet and doesn't appear to have any physical issues. Any ideas ?
  4. Can I ask about the muzzle - why is it one necessary ? - I'm not sure my lappie would like anything that might restrict her "talking"
  5. I think the only thing to do is check check and check again every day. Having said that I missed one in my Lappie's paw and it cost $400 and a general anesthetic to remove.
  6. I also have a Lappie and she is the most delightful chatter box - she barks, howls and woowoos. She is fairly quiet at home but does talk about food, visitors, other animals and toys. She is happy to lie around all day doing nothing. I think she would be ok in a unit but she loves lying outside in rain. She also dug herself a snow burrow - it is about 2m x 1m !
  7. I hope it is a scam because Savannah kittens are also advertised and they too are banned in Australia.
  8. This part of Linear Park is nice - not too many people and a large area for dogs to run off lead -http://www.whereis.com/sa/athelstone/linear-park-ct#session=NDE=
  9. Our Deerhound split the end of his tail and I cured it by applying Anasol (hemroid cream) it is thick tastes horrible(apparently) and is an antiseptic
  10. It is good fun - I took my Lappie but she would only do a "princess" trot - we got overtaken by a Lab !
  11. It is a great segment - well done to both of you !
  12. Sounds exactly like my Lappie - she will swim in the pouring rain in the middle of winter but try to bath and dry her
  13. I thought dog attacks have to be reported in SA - almost 15 years ago I took my then 10 year son to hospital after he came off his bike and I had to fill in a long form with lots of questions about the accident and dogs.
  14. Anyone interested in meeting lots of beautiful Lappies should come along SA’s Social Finnish Lapphund Picnic and Walk This is an open invitation to all Lappie owners, prospective owners and admirers to join us for a fun outing. You are most welcome to pass on this information to others who may also be interested in this wonderful breed. When: Sunday, June 9th, 2013 at 11:30AM Where: We will meet at Rymill Park, on the corner of Dequetteville Tce & Bartels Road Facilities: You'll find large shady trees, a rose garden, toilets, a playground and a kiosk What to bring: Your Finnish Lapphund/s on lead. Water for your dog and drinks for yourselves, your own picnic food and a picnic table, chairs, rug. What to expect: An enjoyable family day out with your dog/s and a leisurely walk. It should be a great day and will be lovely to catch up on what everyone has been up too. Lappie numbers are growing here in SA which is lovely to see. There a few new owners that are looking forward to meeting other Lappie folk and their dogs so it will be great seeing some new faces as well as familiar ones. See you there! Sparkycat and Finnese
  15. Mine do very well on CopRice - 20kg for about $50. They also get roo bones and raw beef. http://www.coprice.com.au/natural-dog-food
  16. Haha I have one of these too - if I am home alone and she hears something outside she runs to the front door growling and grumbling - all 4 kgs of watchdog Siamese. As for the dogs - they are both good barkers and I am confident they would scare off any robbers. I am also confident that they would protect me from any attackers. The only time we have been robbed was when we were in the process of moving and the dogs were at the new house. The police then told us that dogs are the best deterrent.
  17. They look good but I wonder if the chain would get caught up in my Lappies huge thick mane
  18. Has anyone tried these Spiffy Dog Air Collars ? http://www.care4dogsonthego.co.uk Or are there any other non smelly collars available? I have one dog who loves swimming and the other who paddles but has a huge double coat - both end up with smelly collars. They only wear their collars when we go out and I have been rinsing them and drying in the sun but they still stink.
  19. Keely has "water" balls and "land" balls - she will only fetch a rubber ball in water and will only fetch a tennis ball on land - she gives anyone who gets it mixed up the most withering look !
  20. You start a new job and within a day your chair is covered with dog and cat fur. You phone the glazier and say your deerhound bounced a family member through a window again and the insurance company actually pays 3 of these claims. You don't buy a beautiful house because there are too many stairs to the back for your oldie.
  21. I've done it but only when I can still see her - my problem is that she does the most heart-wrenching howls
