I wouldn't bother with pet shop dog conditioners. Over priced and under effective. Either use human ones, or if you have big dogs, horse ones. Mine are always conditioned. Less so if they need to dry first as they will take about twice the drying time if heavily conditioned (as does my own hair). Like Dancinbcs I brush and comb the conditioner through while wet - great way to detangle (or even get out seeds or debris without pulling) without breaking hair. No good on tight mats though as wetting will tighten them. Small ones can be gently teased or combed out with conditioner applied to them dry.

One of mine was recently still standing well over 20 days. Whether or not she would have still conceived I don't know - I wasn't going to risk it!!!

Recent events have got me thinking. Most of us make allowances in wills etc for what is to happen to our dogs if we die unexpectedly. But what would happen if we were suddenly critically ill, injured etc? Wills and last wishes are not taken into account in these circumstances, even though sometimes we may be left unable to communicate our wishes for our dog's futures. Especially important for those of us whose families are not overly doggy and could not take on our pets at the drop of a hat. Does anyone here have emergency plans? I wonder at some of the best ways to put these in place. My way of thinking is tending towards providing our next of kin with emergency dog contacts. While many of us have very close dog friends and trusted people within the dog community, our families might not know of them or think to contact them in the event of something bad happening. The other train of thought is this. If you have left instructions with family, friends, executors etc regarding dogs, could you be certain that those wishes were carried out? Thinking here specifically of dogs that owners may request to be put down in the event of their death or incapacitation. Would next of kin understand why? Or would they think that horrible and try something else? The slogans used in the recent campaigns about organ donation spring to mind. Do you family know what you want? Do we need to have that difficult and uncomfortable conversation so we can be sure?

Affenpinscher? But agree with the suggestion of a Schipperke too. I wouldn't be restrained by your son's choice of colour. Opinions change anyway, more important that the pup suits you all, as a baby and a adult, than it being a certain colour.

If she'll eat chicken wings I'd be happy with that. The edible bone, cartilage, skin etc will provide minerals etc.

Vitamin B6 can sometimes have a big effect on travel sickness. A B Complex with good levels of B6 is even better as the complex assists with stress. I have used the Blackmores brand, which seems tasty and many dogs enjoy, one of each a little while before a trip, or half for a small dog. Some powdered vitamin C can also be given, especially for long trips. I give it the day before and the day of a long trip if a dog is a bit stressy.

You don't need rego papers or a contract to prove ownership. Did you get a receipt when you bought your pup? As you seem to be well aware Squinter, be very careful of advice about "naming and shaming". If it backfires and results in legal action against you the folks who are quick to suggest it are not left paying the bills.

If the matter is to be pursued legally that is not a good idea.

Last year I sent two precious babies overseas, with Dogtainers and Animal Air: http://www.animalair.com.au/contact.html Both were fantastic. But Animal Air came out ever so slightly on top. If I was paying I would go with them every time. Both were like leaving my dog in the care of a trusted friend. Boh my young boys hopped off their planes just as, if not more cheerful than when they hopped on. They flew to South Africa and Hawaii so were lucky to have no quarantine requirements at the other end. They had long trips but have never looked back, and settled into life in a new country with amazing ease. edit to add link

Pig meat should not be fed raw as pigs and dogs can share parasites and diseases etc.

Chinese Crested Powderpuff, Tibetan Terrier, or even a Tibetan Spaniel?

Thanks. And I just realised it is Boris's (Ch Mistraka Sgt Pepper) birthday!! Happy birthday with a BIG to my handsome boy, dear hound of my heart.

Weight wise she should be ok. Height wise even mating them on sloped ground could provide some advantage to her - with her uphill a little.

Practical Solutions To Problems
Alyosha replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
The other related issue here is exhibitors who deliberately slow up in front of others to hinder their competitors' chances at moving their dogs effectively. I use to show in a breed with a serial offender in this regard. After a disastrous class where my dog and I had to come to a complete stop three times in one lap while this exhibitor stopped their dog and tried to re-gait them over again I had to learn to give them at least half a ring head start - and explain to the steward "I need to leave that exhibitor plenty of space". Games can be played in both directions, running up the back of others and slowing up in front of them. -
Have they considered a Borzoi? Ticks all their boxes, similar to a Grey in temperament, and surprisingly devoted to their people (most people think big hounds are pretty casual and can take or leave people, very far from the truth!!) usually couldn't care less whether they get a walk each day, gorgeous lounge ornaments... They usually quite enjoy some obedience, especially these days when it's more of a positive interaction rather than correction based. They aren't big on doing what they're told all the time, but working as a team with their human they love doing things - more a "lets do it together" rather than "tell me what to do" attitude.
-
We'll look for the traditional entrance of you running from the carpark with Boris, brush in hand! Sounds too familiar!! If this rain keeps up I'll only bring him, and we'll camp in the car.

Lots of beagles! Seeing as they are on before us and I am usually running late it is nce to see... Unless they all pike out and stay home in the warm! Damn. Better try and be on time anyway.

Help Needed With A Breed Club Dilema
Alyosha replied to Blakbelgian's topic in General Dog Discussion
If you haven't found anyone let me know by PM and I'll share emails etc. I've just been doing our club one and am in the groove of it all. Wouldn't be super flash as I'm a bit new to it. But I can send you my recent one as an example if you like. -
Depends what breed you're talking about. I hard a story of a quite knowledgable dog person (albeit in a different group to hounds) commenting with absolute horror about how the BOB borzoi she saw had a "roached back"... They should have a curved topline, highest point over the lastrib etc. And they have a less angled shoulder assemnly than many other breeds, a 'racing front' as some call it. Seen in many sighthound breeds and not a fault. So some faults may be universal yes. But many are breed specific.

Pet Network is a great shopping place when starting out as they have a big range, and awesome service: http://www.petnetwork.com.au/cgi-bin/shopping.pl And I love Mel Buckley's show leads, made to order, very beautiful, and very durable: http://www.fyrthkennels.com/bling-by-fyrth-dog-leads.asp

It is a criminal offence to fail to provide veterinary attention to an animal.

Awesome. Will still include Ascot even though all pups are whte and cream and white. It's quite becoming for a borzoi!
