  1. Mokha was just over 4 months old when we brought home Molly. She was a year old and seemed huge compared to Mokha. The first week was interesting because Molly had been spayed and had kennel cough so we were keeping them seperate but he new someone had invaded his territory. After the first couple of introductions they were great together. It was a funny dynamic in the house because Mokha was boss but he was so little compared to her. She never challenged him for top spot and they adore each other. They like to do everything together. I think we were very lucky with Molly, it wasnt an ideal situation in hindsight to bring her home as she was untrained and had lots to learn. It was hard going the first 6 months training two pups but the rewards of seeing them together now is so worth it. ETA my sig pic was taken about 3 months after Molly came home and they have been side by side ever since.
  2. Sending best wishes for Daphne. Went through this myself Tuesday night with Mokha. He ate at least 600 grams. Luckily we discovered it quickly, took him to the E vet who made him vomit. He was a bit unhappy the next day but made a good recovery. He is about 27kg so not so bad as when a small dog consumes that much. Hoping everything will be ok.
  3. We have had Mokha on Joint Guard now for a couple of months, he has also been having Catrophen injections. I can not say which has made the difference but the combination has made a huge improvement for him. He is not limping, can go for much longer walks without coming home sore. I dont dare stop either now because I am so pleased by his improvement.I get my Joint Guard from here it is the best price I have found.link
  4. Just got back from Tooradin Foreshore, dogs had a great time as usual, managed to score some BBQ sausage from members of my family. Nice small town to walk around, pity the tide was out so a lot of mud.Still nice dog friendly place.
  5. Ever tried having a picnic with two labs. Your lucky if you get anything to eat and what you do get to eat you feel guilty about ,as they both gaze at you with sad faces. We had lunch in Woodend last time which is so busy on a Saturday.
  6. I understand she broke the law there needs to be a penalty (a fine, restriction of sale of live animals for 12 months) but I dont see the need for the curfew and tagging. Seems a bit over the top.
  7. I did something today that I never do and went for a walk with no dogs with me, dont worry they both had nice long walks already by my husband and daughter. Well I am glad I did not have them with me, Good Friday must be a free for all ,for off leash dogs in on lead areas. In a 100 metre section of the creek walk 3 off lead dogs. Now they were all well behaved nice looking dogs but the area is clearly marked on lead and it is only a short walk to the other side of the creek to the off lead area. You can bet if I was down there with mine off lead I would probably get caught. It is frustrating.
  8. I have a similar bowl just but it only has three raised bits in the middle. It definitely has slowed my two down but I have noticed they are speedier eating out of it now than when we first got them.
  9. Molly is on Eagle pack, she does really well on it. She is lean, lovely coat, clean ears and healthy. While I like the holistic select range Molly switches between Eagle pack original and Eagle pack Natural (ones is pork based and one is lamb based) and loves both. She gets two cups a day and some sardines or chicken wing and this keeps her at around 28 kilo so it works out good value.
  10. I think the pavers are a great idea. Go with the big ones though. My rough collie managed to dig up a couple of small pavers from the edge of our out door area when she was in a real mood. She was 10 years old at the time too. Not exactly young and sprightly. You can get ones that are about a foot square and at least it will look nice too. Good luck if I had an escape artist I would never be able to relax worrying about them.
  11. We took the dogs to hanging rock on Saturday but the pamphlet they gave us said dogs arent allowed to climb the rock. We were disappointed but took them for a nice walk around the grounds. I was a bit concerned about snakes too. There are signs warning about them Same thing happened when I went the first time! The second time I saw a lady walking her sheltie down the rock, so I asked someone who works there. Dogs are allowed up the rock now - they need to change some signs. My dogs loved to bounce up those steep stairs. Thanks for that info.I wish I had asked someone and not just gone on what the pamphlet said. We will go again although it is a couple of hours away for us.
  12. Well I have double checked the website and it is saying it has the same enzymes.Heres hoping that it is true because it really did seem to work before. Does anyone have an old box that you could check. Would love to know. It does say that the one with the fabric softner does not have the color brightning thing but that does not matter when we are talking carpet. Thanks for the tip percyk on the cold water first for poo. Learn something new everyday.
  13. I could not believe what I was hearing. I just kept thinking I wonder how much socialisation, outings etc these hundreds of dogs get. How can they think this is OK. I could barely watch the whole thing. Being the owner of a poorly bred pet shop dog, (I would never buy one now I know better) it broke my heart thinking Mokha mum could still be out there breeding and breeding.
  14. If you have ever wasted years of your life living next to neighbours from hell, or neighbour's kids from hell, believe me it is not a silly suggestion. Life's too short to try and sort out crap like this. After living next to the neighbours from hell for more than a decade when they moved I thought anything got to be better. These ones are worse. Smashing beer bottles against my house knowing I have dogs in the yard. Noisy, swearing disgusting people. If I could I would move. For us selling and relocating is not possible at the moment but soon as it is we are gone.Lifes to short and my dogs are too important.
  15. I read somewhere I think it was on a cats forum that the new biozet labled biozet attack does not have the same enzymes anymore that it used to have so does not work on urine now. I think they suggested using the pink napisan for in wash not sure about the carpet though. You could check it out if you compare a new box to an old one. ETA just checked out the Biozet web site in says the same enzymes are in the new one, specifically mention two Protease and Cellulase. I thought it had triple enzymes in the old one? Wish I had an old box lying around. Oh well I hope it still works I have heaps of the new one that I just bought. I heard Urine off was good I also have some spray from the vet called The animal odour eliminator made by Bac to nature. Seems to work well claims to work in 21 seconds. I have used it on the carpet and couch to get rid of anal gland stink and it works..
  16. Interesting to see if my insurance pays up. I was at the E vet last night as Mokha got into where the Easter eggs that were hidden and ate approx 600grams minimum. I realised about 1 1/2 hours later when I went in my room. Luckily they only needed to induce vomiting and he just needs to take it easy. I have prepared my claim, we will see I suppose. Last time they wouldnt pay for the barium xrays saying they were diagnostic. I think the way my vet completed the form may have had an effect too as she did not note that he did infact pass the blockage (hair tie)2 days later.I hope the pup is ok. I would still recommend they take out insurance though. Mine has come in handy for ortho surgery.

  18. Best of luck. I cant imagine having 3 done at once. Mokha it was no big deal, he is pretty placid around the house. Molly was a completely different experience. We picked her up from the shelter vet, she did not know me, she was completely untrained so trying to potty on lead was not easy. It was a 2 1/2 hour trip home, she was car sick and wondering what on earth was going on. On about day 5 we introduced her to Mokha through a baby gate just in case and have never looked back. I hope they all recover well with no problems, thank goodness you only have to do it once for each pet.
  19. It is absolutely not a possiblity to forget in my house. They start following me around right on 5.30pm until I feed them at six. Now Mokha follows me all the time but when Molly joins in you know its dinner time. Brekky well its usually about the 3rd thing I do in the morning. I am half asleep still but never forget they wouldnt let me, one of the advantages of labradors.
  20. I really feel it depends on the dog. Our collie was definately a family dog however she gravitated more towards females. Perhaps a legacy of her past as she was a mature aged stray when we found her. Mokha was supposed to be my daughters dog but he bonded to me as I was home with him, trained him etc. While he mostly sticks like glue to me, since I fractured my ribs and my hubby started walking him daily he has definately formed a much closer bond with my hubby. He comes a close second now. Molly is my dog, she is an attention hog from anyone who will give it but is definately my girl.Other members of the family walking her made no difference. She really only listens to me.I think if your friend chose a dog that their daughter was confident in handling herself, training feeding etc and she exclusively did all this it may help to form the bond but in the end the dog may still choose someone else.
  21. I had this problem when Molly first came to us at a year old. She shredded everything we gave her to sleep on inlcluding her trampoline bed and even worse Mokha started copying her. He had never done this before. I did not know what to do and on a last effort tried a completely different type of bedding, a hessian sack and foam mat. I sprayed it with bitter spray on the corners and watched like a hawk. If she even went to sniff I told her to "leave it". She has never chewed up any bedding since. I eventually added a blanket and now we have no problems. I dont know in the end was it my cross voice, the spray or the completely different rather strong smell of the hessian mat. Good luck with finding your solution.
  22. Petstore (i hate having to admit that), severe hip dysplasia (couldnt even walk at 6 months, thought we would have to put him down), temprement issues, fear aggression, hates children (thankfully getting much better with that) can be aggressive towards certain other people, on going stomach issues........ Just turned out badly really. Dont get me wrong he is a beautiful dog and with all the work and money we have put into him he is a lovely member of our family but it has been hard and I regret not going to a Reg breeder as he really has turned me off the breed. Totally get what your saying. My first lab, pet store bought, HD both hips, ED surgery at 1 year old, allergies, stomach issues. Luckily for us he has a fantastic temperament and is a great dog. Not what I thought I was getting though.Live and learn.
  23. I hope Henry is feeling better this morning. It happens with my two, being labs they love to swim and occasionally have nibbled on a jelly fish before I have told them to leave it. Now that really gives an upset tummy. Hopefully Henry's tummy will settle down and I bet he is loving that chicken breast and rice diet.
  24. I wish mine would just sit on the remote. Mokha has chewed up three remotes in his lifetime.
  25. If you go to the fifth one done there is a search option in the file type in Robert Cavey and it comes up.
