  1. I understand how frustrating this must be. When we first got Molly she had no leash training at all and was very over excited like your dog sounds. Going to obedience class really helped along with using a martingdale collar.
  2. I will most likely end up with one of each. (smoothie and poodle)Cant wait.
  3. Such a sad ending. While reading this whole thread the one thing I kept thinking was without you the dog had no chance. At least you took the time to get involved and gave the owner a chance to see her dog again for the last time. Hope you have a great day at Kepala to lighten your spirits a bit.
  4. Next dog will be a Smooth collie pup from a reputable registered breeder. Maybe in about 10 years, if this does not work out I think I will be adopting a senior dog (medium/ large breed of any kind just the one that wins my heart. ) ETA I am seriously thinking of a poodle pup in the future. This is entirely because of what I have read on DOL as it was not a breed I had ever considered. When I do those match owner to breed questionnaires it always comes up with a poodle.
  5. I hope these pups have had a vaccination, not that it would have had time to be effective. The spread of parvo or kennel cough would be a huge concern.
  6. He sounds like a real jerk. Thank goodness you have moved on. I feel for the husky, my collie was going blind at the same age but managed really well. Honestly how could he possibly think it was your responsibility.
  7. I am so sorry for you and your family.
  8. Mokha has wrapped the lead around my leg at training when he got a fright when another dog rushed at him which pulled my feet out from under me, landed face first on grass it knocked me out for a few seconds and was one of the most painful sprained ankles I ever had. Most recently couple of fractured ribs, black eyes, nose and chin but once again he got a fright from a cat jumping out and otherwise would not have happened. I dont hold it against him because he is too adorable.
  9. Dont know where you are located but I get marrow bones from the butcher at the Heritage Springs shopping centre in Pakenham that are already cut in half.
  10. I have neighbours whose dog continually digs under our fence and sticks his nose under. My husband and I continually fill in with bricks and dirt, have put a second wooden barrier along, the neignbours have never done a thing to stop there dog. I cant see how it would be my fault and how this could be your fault. I was thinking perhaps you could offer to pay the first three months of puppy insurance telling them that if they had taken this out they would not have to worry about a large bill again .Otherwise the most I think you should pay was the excess on a typical policy because if they had taken insurance this would be all they had to pay.I would prefer to pay for some insurance for them as it would would give the appearance of being just a goodwill gesture. Tell them you will give them a cheque when they know how much the insurance is going to be.
  11. A spot for other would be good as I voted for Eagle pack but I feed my choc lab Cali Natural due to allergies but could not reflect this in the poll as None of the above wasnt right.
  12. I am very sorry and know the feeling of being glad no one saw you. I am three and half weeks from a very similar fall that resulted in black eyes, bruised chin and nose and a couple of fractured ribs. All I was trying to do was have a nice morning walk. Oh well hazards of dog ownership I suppose.I hope you recover quickly but I suspect a badly bruised hip is going to give you grief for a while.
  13. \ I do understand you wanting to keep him. I kept Mokha despite his problems. I suppose though in deciding to keep him I feel it obligated me to do the best I can for him. We have incurred thousands of dollars in expenses and I expect this to go on for the rest of life but I am committed to do that. I am lucky in a way as two of my kids are now employed and my youngest is in Year 12. If I had young children the cost of a dog with these problems may be much more of an issue. It may come in time that you have to choose between physio, medication, surgery etc for the dog and the kids getting to do swimming lessons , sports or a birthday party.. I hope that your pup does not turn out to be as bad as the vet thinks. I know how it is to have a dog that causes such worry, I am always being careful with him. It is a completely different feeling to how it is with my other healthy dog that I can just enjoy with out the worry.I sincerely wish you all the best.
  14. Hi your pup is very cute and I am sorry to hear all the bad news your vet had to offer you. I noticed your floors are beautifully shiny and smooth. I have a dog with ED and HD and if you are looking at keeping your pup, having surgery etc you might want to get some area rugs so the pup can move around with having to walk on the slippery surfaces. We took our family room rug up for the day yesterday and Mokha is limping today from trying to walk on the slippery floor otherwise confining him to areas with carpet if you can. Try not to panic until you have seen a specialist who can give you all the info you need. Good luck.
  15. Another vote here for Dogs in Motion.I take Mokha there twice a week and the staff are great. Edited cause I cant spell my own dogs name.
  16. Guinea pig - Clyde named after my great uncle (deceased both the uncle and the guinea pig unfortunately.) Rabbit - Peter terribly unoriginal but he was already named by a Grade 5 school class Thumper, Peters son and thumped the ground all the time Cats - Katie came named she was dumped by a neighbour when they moved. Shadow because he chases shadows all the time. Summer because we got her at the start of last summer and she is a blue cream with what looks like a sunrise on her forhead. Dogs - Lady (rough collie) she was such a diginified lady like dog. We got her as a stray when she was nine years old. I miss her terribly. Mokha (lab) Beautiful chocolate colored coat lab so my daughter wanted Mocha. I looked it up in the dictionary and it had the alternative spelling of Mokha for a town in Yemin. Molly (yellow lab) This was her shelter name and I had already decided my next girl would be Molly or Bonnie so we stuck with Molly. I love the name Molly from a friends adorable daughter.
  17. I am so sorry your girl is unwell.Sending my best wishes for a speedy diagnosis and recovery. How old is she?
  18. Should this puppy be there at six weeks what vaccinations would it have had.
  19. Can you add my choc labs surgery and vet bills to that letter too. They were not at all interested when I tried to tell them about his problems and requested they inform their "breeder".
  20. I have one of the xl crates from this site. Must say I am disappointed with mine. It seems a lot more lightweight than my other I got from another supplier and I have to lift the door and really wiggle the lock to get it to close. It does not seem to line up properly. It is easier to collapse than my other crate but as it is always in my ute under the canopy this does not outweigh the locking problem. Wonder if I am the only one who was less than happy.
  21. I am with Vets own for both my claims it was in my bank account within about 10 days.
  22. Please correct me if I am wrong but when they said she was restricted to three dogs (unbelievable) but I thought they said in NSW. Does this mean she can move interstate with no restrictions on her owning more dogs.
  23. She was about to explain the trouble with crossing two breeds with health issues but got cut of by the host who felt it was more important to mention that Fernandos "thing" was showing. Arghhh Still so frustrating that she is on there advertising cross breeds and contradicted herself by saying see the parents then saying some pet shops treat their dogs well which makes it sound like she is supporting purchasing from there.
  24. Sorry this is not encouraging. Mokha always pees over Mollys pee spot and loves to sniff and pee on our walks. He is desexed and 19 months old now.
  25. RIP sweet Buddy.I am so sorry for your loss thank goodness you were able to stay with him and spend that last day comforting and loving him.
