  1. I've just changed from the Duck to the Anchovy and Shyla much prefers the Anchovy, but I think that's because the Duck barely smells like anything at all, but the Anchovy ones smelly fishy and enticing
  2. I was bitten by a white tail on the back of my upper leg and on my ankle (2 separate occasions) we used to get HEAPS in our house in summertime except thank goodness this summer just gone we barely saw any. I had nothing more than localized itching and pain and a large looking pimple type blister with two tiny dots on it (the bite marks) and it healed over a few weeks. I guess it depends how you react to the venom and now that I know, whether there was any bacteria on their fangs etc. Either way I was SO glad we didn't many of the buggers this summer just gone cos it was Shylas first summer here, and the thought of her getting bitten.. no thanks
  3. I have enough for a few months at the moment phew, I got a bit worried! Just changed Shy over from the Holistic Duck to the Holistic Anchovy
  4. Very interesting about the bacteria on the fangs and not always the venom itself!!
  5. I see the bad in people before the good (so many idiots around) and he sure sounds like a CRAP owner to me Sometimes I think dogs would be better off PTS nicely than going back to their careless owners and getting out again and again and then getting hit and laying on the road in agony. So many friggin stupid owners around
  6. Good on you for reporting it!!!! It may save someone or someones dog someday I hope Penny is OK and won't be too scarred from the ordeal, I'm sure all the cuddles and kisses and love are helping :D
  7. Happy Birthday :D Ivy!!! Soooo pretty
  8. YAYYY I'm so happy for you!!! And loved the photos!!!
  9. Oh my biggest fear!! I pray and hope Hudson is going to be fine, thank god it didn't twist. Good on you ex, brilliant work by him! I have told my OH all the signs too cos you just never know
  10. My shepherd turns into watchdog at night, whining and barking at the thought of going outside cos of the possums, bats etc that set her off Not to the extent of your dog though, I hope it's nothing too serious :D
  11. What? I am uspet that there is a BYB out there, who is selling unvaccinated dogs. How would you feel, if you bought a puppy & a week later found out it has major health issues & after 3 weeks, you have spent nearly a $1,000 in Vets bills, with no recourse. Yeah I'm not sure where the hysterical and obsessed bit fits in either :D There's always one weird post on every thread!
  12. My shepherd is coming up to 1.5 years old, and I only just started leaving her in the WHOLE house alone for 9 hour days starting a week ago We used to keep her locked in half the house (a lino big area) but now she has the whole house and 3 cats for company and the carpeted lounge, our big leather couches etc. She's never really shown any signs of destructive behavior like your puppy though... I wouldn't trust her if she did any of those things :D
  13. What on earth!!! There is no WAY I am using this drug ever ever. How can it still be prescribed with such a very very bad rate of killing dogs? I know any medication can react badly with any particular patient, but surely so many deaths and even the few on this thread alone I would call 'many' is a sign? I am glad my vet has only ever given me Previcox. If I was prescribed Rimadyl I think I would go tell them to jump
  14. When you say the "3 year protocol" does that mean the 3-year booster thats fairly new? I just got Shylas first annual done and don't want to vaccinate at all for 3 years. Does that mean I titre test yearly up til the 3rd year to make sure her immunity is still adequate?
  15. Any tips how to NOT end up with a destructo dog? I thank DOG for my blessed shepherd I have *touchwood* she can be left in the entire house unattended and touches NOTHING, how do I ensure my next dog is the same?
  16. No solution but my shepherd has a fascination with suckling and gnawing on dogs with long floppy ears (ie my mums golden retriever) they are SO tangly when we go to leave in the evening when we visit I've notice her do it on another dog with similar ears
  17. I only posted a few times in your big thread, but my thoughts were always there How someone can't have empathy is beyond me but alas like you said, we are all different..
  18. OMG yeah thats all people told me about Shyla and now she's smaller than the average GSD, hahaha
  19. Interesting! I feed Shyla 500g of raw veal/rabbit mince with a cooked egg mixed through in the mornings, and 1.5 cups of holistic bikkies at night mixed with a tin of sardines in oil and a bit of cheese for garnish. She also gets a chicken frame every second day and other treats. My mum always says she's too thin cos she can feel her ribs and her spine (she owns an overweight fat golden retriever, all her pets are loved with food lol) but I keep saying she's the right weight and it's better to be thin than more on the other side of the scale. I can feel her ribs through a thin layer of fat which I thought was good. Her hips don't stick out or anything. I hope she fills out more as she ages (she's coming up to 1.5 in a few mths). My vet said she's the perfect weight and he wishes he saw more dogs like her, and the german shepherd people at a show said she looked nice. But I see mum every week so hearing her say 'she's too skinny' gets to me lol
  20. Ummm she contacted the club and they are dodging and avoiding giving her answers, the owner of the aggressive dog didn't even CHECK to see if the dog her dog just ATTACKED for no reason was ok and went back to class without a care in the world, she's had warnings before, I really don't think politeness will pay off in this situation, sometimes you need to step in and show you mean business when dealing with dickheads
  21. Good on you for taking it further!!!! Please let us know how you go
  22. I don't think they quite realize how full on puppies are, especially a boisterous full of life breed like a Labrador! I can see it turning sour when the dog chews things up and barks and causes more stress on the already busy family with a baby, big workload etc...
