  1. This struck me too - the right foot looks especially 'down' to me. Could just be the photos but might be a good idea to check in with your breeder for some advice
  2. I wanted to stop my bitch from coming into season as she was booked in for surgery when she was due in, the vet gave her an injection to stop the season. The vet said it was risky to give it more than once. In my case the bitch wasn't going to be bred from anyway so I didn't look into potential issues with breeding down the track. Unfortunately for us she came into season when she was due despite the injection, so it doesn't seem to be a guaranteed option
  3. I've got a 13.5 year old, 11 year old and 9 year old with no significant health issues. I did lose a 4 or 5 year old to bone cancer a few years ago, and have a 7 year old with immune issues but every other GSD I own or have owned have been healthy
  4. I think you'd be able to attach a lead to any Y front or H harness because they'd all need to have a ring to join the neck straps to the belly straps
  5. A couple of days dabbing peroxide on it and it'll dry out and heal up. I used to use curash powder but find the peroxide quicker
  6. I've fed Barko to my dogs for years and they do really well on it - previously I fed Coprice and advance and always struggled to keep condition on them. Each to their own. It does have a particular smell I guess but should never smell 'bad'
  7. I had a GSD with it in her back leg, and if I had my time with her again I would have PTS at diagnosis. Hers was apparently exceptionally fast growing and she was PTS 11 days after diagnosis anyway but she was uncomfortable during the last week. I was under prepared given the vet said she would have more time and feel guilty I didn't act sooner. That's not the norm and hopefully you have better luck. There are lots of stories in the palatiive care section
  8. My favourite leads are leather and from Germany. They're so soft and lovely quality - best part is they're not even very expensive. I have them in all different widths and lengths! If you're interested I can put you in touch with my friend who does the orders of these leads for the GSD club :)
  9. So very sorry for your loss, what a grand old man he was and your special friend for a long time
  10. Bitch challenge was Schaeferhund Ballena and reserve challenge was Grandwest Queenie, both from Junior. Dog challenge was Bronzehund Iron Man from Open, reserve Schaeferhund Xasko from Inter. Best of breed Schaeferhund Ballena (I think the runner up was the other junior bitch but I'm not 100% sure) The full results should be up on the GSDCV website in the next few days BPB - Bronzehund Khaleesi MPB - Bronacre Uluru Matlida PB - Tardel Let It Be (? I think) JB - Schaeferhund Ballena IB - Willmaurs Queensway Quondo OB - Tardel Jericho Moon BPD - Bronzehund Koscuiszko MPD - Shaleedy Secret Identity PD - Derharv Golden Ticket (? not sure about this one) JD - Freevale Candy Man ID - Schaeferhund Xasko OD - Bronzehund Iron Man
  11. Perhaps its a fear period as opposed to memories of the fright her brother got? I think you're doing the right thing and if she can't cope with that, I'd keep her home for a few weeks before trying again
  12. Everyone does things differently so it would be really difficult to have enough options to suit everyone. All the GSD breeders I've personally spoken to about heated boxes felt the bitches got too hot and didn't use them. I found that having high sides on the box meant the bitch felt happier (cave like) and I can cover it with a blanket to keep the cold air out (I use a heat lamp above it or heat the room) The door on this box however is a pain so that will be changed next time Keep in mind newborn puppies fit in the box easily but the same space (same vet bed as fits in the box above) doesn't go far when they're older
  13. It's a nice idea but no. I've also got GSDs and to be large enough to fit both the bed and playpen part you'd have trouble fitting it in a room! I also like the puppies to be able to get well away from the bed part to toilet once they're up and about, to start early toilet training habits - I don't think this can be achieved in the conjoined idea
  14. My Tiger is a pedigree GSD who turned 13 in May. I got her when she was 2 years old and she's been a kennel kept dog her whole life, because thats what she's always known and liked. She still runs up and down the runs with the dogs next to her in the mornings but of course does a lot of sleeping. She's fed Great Barko and had a vet visit early in the year for an ear infection, but no other health problems or vet visits for many years. The ear infection did seem to knock her balance a little bit but she's happy and very sound and mobile. Her eyes are quite cloudy but she hears fine. We trialled in her younger days and nothing makes her happier than being asked to do a recall in the paddock and get to run around with a toy as a reward!
  15. It was changed and brought more into line with the GSDCA requirements (though not the same) a few years ago http://www.ankc.org.au/News.aspx?id=279 The GSDCA requirements differ in that you can't score more than 3 in any one area, or more than 8 on each side.
  16. He is so gorgeous!! Loved the vid What's in his breeding pers?
  17. DM is, or apparently so. There is a DNA test now available for it and some breeders have begun testing. The national breed commission is deciding if they will introduce it as an official health test for the breed. None of that helps you now but I guess a good thing for the future. Sorry I can't offer any advice but wishing you and Kovu well
  18. Is it the same or similar to Degenerative Myelopathy?
  19. He's gorgeous perse, and I'm another who loves seeing his photos :)
  20. Well done dotdashdot! I've had to pull out of the ASTCV ET as my rotten girl has come into season Booo! Oh well, always next year
