  1. CPR are the rescue who now have lokelani on board as everyone knows we don't as a rule do cats but was approached by lokelani as she could not have 2 dogs at her place, it is entirely up to her what she takes, I did ask about the other 2 older kittens and was told that the grey one was not well and the time had passed for the other, and that she preferred the kittens, her choice and is the best for her situation, I know it is extremely frustrating for some people when their preferences are different to others but we do have to accept their decisions. I feel for Brenda as she is the saver of hundreds of cats and kittens and has tried to retire many times but just doesn't quite make it but we are all different and we all know that, but, as hard as it is we do need to focus on what we can and can't take. 2. We take what we can and it MUST fit our own house and every one in it and that includes the humans and the animals, if it doesn't then unfortunately we have to leave them in the pounds, it is what it is and yes I feel for the cats and kittens.
  3. I had an issue some months back and stuck this note on their gate and not the next day but the one after I have not heard the dog since, I am assuming they sent the dog somewhere else, the other neighbours complained to me about it and I asked if they had approached the owners and of course they hadn't, BUT, the funniest thing is one lady said it looked like a Pitt Bull , had no water and no shade, when I went to check it out it was a Kelpie , there was a big shaded tree in the very small courtyard, but a big bucket of water in the shade, the poor dog was going nuts his mate was in side as mentioned in my letter. "I am writing this in good faith in letting you know that your Kelpie is barking 90% of the day, I can see that you have one dog inside obviously recuperating from surgery hence the Elizabethan collar on the dog, this is probably the reason the kelpie is barking as his playmate is inside, this has been going on for well over 3 weeks now. Yesterday he barked non stop although would break in between 3 barks then a break for 3 seconds than bark 3 times again, this went on for 3 hours non stop, I was out for a couple of hours came home around 2pm and he was quiet for a while I would say because he was exhausted and then started again around 4pm then started until you, I take it came home. I am down the alley way at the back of the units and can hear him that far, I do not want to make any trouble I would just like to see if we can help with minimising his barking by suggesting some things that may keep him occupied for at least some of the time he is outside, he is obviously bored and needs things to do while his mate is inside. Being a Kelpie he would be quite stressed as well being in a confined space all day and his mate inside. I do understand it may be difficult for you as they obviously need to be separated while you are not at home but I would like to help keep the peace in this area, I want to avoid barking issues with neighbours as it can become very unpleasant and to avoid conflicts between neighbours I feel I can help to find a solution. I am more than happy to try and help with the problem and minimise the barking and stress that your boy is under. Please feel free to call me and we can have a chat" Maree CPR
  4. Yes. And a dog sent sight unseen let alone medical or behavioural assesment in any way shape or form to an unknown home is pathetic IMO when lives are at stake. Czzzy's post is not, and will never come close to reputable rescue. Isn't this what PR does
  5. This is why I have never registered them once they "leave my care" as it says it is the new owners responsibility not mine, also a lot of my dogs go inter state. Maree CPR
  6. Just asking, why do groups pay for the rego when we are exempt for 12 months under the clause 16(d) Maree CPR
  7. I have always had an issue with dogs on facebook with the heading "this dog will die tomorrow" and you see all the replies like "oh come on people save this dog it looks so sweet" this is all over PR fb page and people then say I will go in tomorrow and pick the dog up I can foster the dog etc etc I go cold when I see this. 8. The clause should not be shared with others as a list of your groups carers details should be with the DLG and all the pounds you deal with so that any Joe blow cannot use it, if they are not on that list as a carer with you then you should not be sharing it around. I was asked by another group if they could get a dog out under our clause and I said no, but what I did was get the dog out under my name and then do the change of chip papers, the pound knew I was doing this and it was fine but to have others get the dogs out in their name and they are not listed as being a member of that group is wrong in my eyes, you also have to keep those stats and if you don't have any paperwork it can get a bit tricky. Also a major thing is "never give the change of chip papers to the new owners to take to their local council" as the will never remember to do it, I am aware of one person who did this and when they left the group they had just under 100 dogs still in their name, you can imagine the time it took her to chase up her paperwork..... I think the trial period is up to the group themselves I don't think it is a rule as such, we have 2 weeks as I feel that is enough time to know if it is going to work, I am so anal with where my dogs go and can pretty well see in the first 10-15 minutes of the home visit if the dog is right for the family, I also have a fair idea from the initial phone call, I have had approx. 5-6 dogs returned out of 700 in 13 years so am pretty happy with those figures. 9. A tad off topic but I have found a good commercial dry dog food put out by VIP called Nature's Goodness and is an Holistic blend, 3kg bag is approx. $15 in Coles and Woollies and when on special drops to around $12 they do make a 7kg bag but haven't yet found it in the Canberra/Qbyn area, my dogs loves it. 10. Sorry haven't been back in to this post to see all the replys have PM'd you. Maree CPR
  11. I was told yesterday that a Toy Poodle and a Cavalier have been stolen from the Gundaroo area in the last couple of days the Cav was in an enclosure with a few other dogs but only this one taken, the Poodle don't know what circumstances this one disappeared from but was a different home. 12. I found this on the DAS missing dogs description for a Whippet: WITH LENGHT OF CHAIN WITH A PEICE OF WOOD ATTACHED can you believe anyone would have a Whippet chained up let alone attached to a piece of wood.
  13. She lives in Sutton NSW apparently a roo hit her car and damaged her radiator somewhere around Melbourne and has had to wait to have it fixed, poor girl with all those dogs Maree CPR
  14. Angryface on DOL in Queanbeyan/Sutton would take them can they get to Qbyn?? Maree CPR
  15. She is going to Boxer people so will be well taken care of. Maree CPR
  16. Can anyone give me a contact person and number for Boxer Rescue. A vet in Canberra has been given a dog for euthanasia as the dog has demodex mange and she can't manage it, the vets have until tomorrow morning to find someone to take her or she will be PTS, she is a pure breed 3 year old female, the vet said to desex her and it will help a lot but the owner can't deal with it, can anyone help??? Most rescue groups now don't have phone numbers only email to contact them but this girl does not have much time. Maree CPR
  17. They can register her as an entire bitch that will cost them around $200 but if they say she is desexed they have to produce her desexing cert, what is the permit that you have mentioned?? permit for what?? Maree CPR
  18. She is amazing and has the luxury to go walking with the pack 2 to 3 times a day, she has special spots around Hall and near to where she lives away from traffic, people etc, they are interesting places for the dogs, they have break's where Janet sits under the trees and has a coffee and reads the paper and the dogs all sit around and have a nap. We were around the lake a few weeks ago and there were about 10 cyclist "the grey nomads" and one guy had to come and find out who we were and he video'd us for their magazine, we certainly spread the word about rescue. Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread. Maree CPR
  19. She has no pigment around that eye it is all pink, just gets a bit crusty like dirt build up, it only needs warm water to wipe it off, it doesn't give her any problems/irritation. She is such a lovely dog, I suspect her owners were elderly and they could no longer look after her as opposed to her being too much for them. Maree CPR
  20. I had heard from a few people over the years that many small dogs died from attacks from others because there were too many dogs in the one pen and they were all fed together.
  21. I have many people who want the dog housetrained and I don't believe because the dog is trained for my home that they are then trained for every home they go in to, I always say to people that they will have to give the dog a refresher course on where their door is and start from scratch in a lot of cases. Dogs do have accidents and the new owners need to be prepared for it to happen in a lot of cases. I point out that "I saved the dogs life" I would hope the new owners will do some of the training themselves. I have had long termers, 11 months for the last one last year, no calls at all and there is nothing wrong with the pics or the descriptions it just means that the right person had not looked on the website or had just started to look. Here is Mickey the long termer he eventually went to the first people of enquired, we had a stall at Pet Stock last August and they came in with their dog a standard Poodle they were getting him washed and saw Mickey and fell in love with him and the rest is history :) I also move my long termers to one of my carers as she can give them more than I can, this is her at Hall with her pack and a few fosters.
