  1. OMG Julzjc Poor little Astrid. Hope she pulls through What a horrible time you've had lately Glad to hear that Indie is feeling better. How's he coping with Astrid being at the vets?
  2. I think they might be the more healthy type of purebread Bullmastiffs - multi-grain multi-strain!! ;)
  3. Am-O-Lin baby "bum" cream. Has lanolin in it. Available from the supermarket. I used it on my previous Bull Terrier and am starting to use it on Pele
  4. So glad that Jake is OK and hope your hand is better soon Pele, my 6yo Bull Terrier was attacked by 2 staffy X's 3 weeks ago. The smaller one slipped out of it's slip chain and came racing at her then got stuck into her Next thing the larger one is loose and has her by the neck It all happened so quickly. I assume that the guy handed the larger dog's lead to his partner who was pushing a pusher and it pulled loose. I pulled the smaller staffy X off by the hind legs and screamed to the girl to grab the hind legs of the other one and lift them off the ground. The guy had it in a head lock and was punching it. Luckily it then let go and no humans were bitten. Pele had some very deep puncture wounds (luckily no chunks ripped out) and was badly shaken. The guy was very upset and paid Pele's vet bill and a trip to the chiro. Yes, it could have been a lot worse. Pele's attack wasn't from any one being irresponsible, it was just an unfortunate accident. Hopefully the guy has learned his lesson and gets a better fitting collar for the smaller staffy and maybe muzzles the dogs. Grabbing the hind legs and lifting them off the ground so there was no traction worked without anyone getting bitten in this case.
  5. So glad both dogs are home. What a horrible experience Hope the leg heals quickly
  6. He was hanging out for Pork Steaks Fantastic news!! Go Indie
  7. Pele was named after the "Hawaiian Goddess of Fire and Volcanoes" (not the soccer player, altho' she does love soccer balls )because of her "red" colour. I was worried that Pele could live up to her name and have a red hot temper, but she doesn't. Pele is very calm and placid and builds up slowly and then KABOOM!!! she'll erupt just like a volcano and go feral and race around doing zoomies
  8. Hope Indie is ok. A question was posted on a list that I'm on where a dog who was off its food was diagnosed with Masticatory myositis - wasting of the chewing muscles, which if allowed to progress will eventually result in her being completely unable to open her mouth or eat anything. Might be worth suggesting that to the vet ;)
  9. The Last Battle If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep Then will you do what must be done, For this--the last battle--can't be won. You will be sad I understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me until the end. And hold me firm and speak to me. Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do. We've been so close--we have--these years Don't let your heart hold any tears. Author unknown to you and Oscar.
  10. That's what I get for Pele. Heaps cheaper than Heartguard and is the same ingredient (Ivermectin and dosage)
  11. Some of the other Bach Flower Remedies might be beneficial. Check with the Health Food Store, they should be able to advise. Also what about those DAP diffusers? They are supposed to be effective. Someone might be able to chime in here with more info
  12. Was going to suggest Rescue Remedy but its already been mentioned. The homeopathic remedy Ignatia is for grief. Also agree with a visit to the vet. Hope Indie is feeling better soon
  13. I agree. Hope things are sorted out now
  14. sorry, but....... Same here ......... ;)
  15. Ohh.. that's very strict. was there complication in the op? Maybe with this operation, his routine is out of whack and barking is an outlet of too much energy and frustration. once his stitches are out and he is back to his normal routine and getting the right amount of exercise, he would bark less and not care about what happens in the back fence? That's exactly what the obedience trainer said! I hope that you are both right. I know i was strict but i listened to the vet, he is my first dog and i wanted to do every thing right. I cant wait to take him to nice bush walks with me next week! oh and there was no complication in the op Leash walks are fine, but no running, jumping, swimming etc. Get Spudd out for walks, he's probably going nuts! (Oh, forgot he hasn't got any Sorry Spudd )
  16. and sending positive thoughts your way that Ollie is OK.
  17. Hope Portia is feeling much better and that there are no relapses :D Pele spent 3 days on a drip at the vets in September after vomitting blood. The vets never did decide if it was something she ate, ulcer or bug of some sort. It was a worry and also very expensive episode so know what you are going thru'. to you and Portia :D
