Looking for a Maltese cross or any lap dog.
juice replied to Phyl.'s topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
yep, the puppy farmers love picking up small breed dogs on scumtree, a good breeder would run a mile from that ad and the only people who would reply would be someone who has bred a female or tried and its not worked and wants to offload it and get some cash too. It does seem you are in the wrong state for little fluffy dogs, they are in abundance here , can you look at rescues who might be only just inside NSW and are driveable? -

Sorry just realised you are in Victoria and Denise doesn't do interstate . Dogmad may know of something though. -

Have you looked at "Denise at paws" she has a lot of small fluffy dogs always . Perhaps shoot her an email with what you are after , she may have something not listed yet that would suit . You could also try sending a pm to " dogmad" on here , she rescued little dogs too but not often online here . -

Rescue groups are run by volunteers who are often flat out picking dogs up, doing homechecks, vet trips, allsorts and probably trying to juggle a family too. Don't worry if you don't hear back the same day. Popular breeds get snapped up quickly ,so you just have to keep trying, and its not first in, but which home is most suitable.. if you are in a hurry then you will have to buy one off Gumtree or a breeder. -
Anna, have you already committed to the pup?

Vizsla showing aggressive tendencies with other dogs...
juice replied to Haggis Supper's topic in General Dog Discussion
The problem is you were telling her off for warning another dog so now she goes straight in for the nip.instead you should be protecting her from other dogs and not putting her in situations that make her have to react . Not all dogs want to be best friends with every dog they meet . -
Have you seen the parents in the flesh ? Do they have pedigree papers ? Cheap doesn't mean good . Have you checked what health issues the breed is prone to and parents are clear of them ?
-
i see lots of breeds advertised as purebreds and they are not, Some are in colours the breed doesn't even come in, but people don't know. If there are no papers you have no idea if it will actually be a Chi or there is something else in the mix. I suppose it depends on price and wether you can see both parents and decide wether its worth the risk, plenty out there with papers.

My Wei did the same, lived with multiple dogs and always fine, then started gradually lunging at other dogs, ones he had known for years too. I went to see a behaviorist , and it seemed as my ex had recently left he was using it as a way of exerting himself over everyone and me. I got him under control to a certain extent until he started on one of mine and then he became dangerous. Has anything at home changed? -

i always feed mine twice, perhaps its putting a human spin on it but seems along time to go without food otherwise. Mine get their main meal at tea time and brekky is just a couple of greyhound biscuits and perhaps an egg or sardines . -
I wish breeders would put prices or a range on their listings, it really does help and then people don't feel worried about asking and it could be out of their range.

White German Shepherd puppy - FREE to a good home!
juice replied to Cuko13's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Wanting to see him again after he is rehomed is just selfish on your part. He won't settle and its not fair on him. I wouldn't take on a dog whose owner wanted to visit. Why cant he go to WS rescue? they will place him properly. -

I would suggest you tell people when they enquire that he will be desexed before he leaves you , you don't have to do that, but it will make the ones looking to breed him back off, i would perhaps up the price too, you don't have to charge it when it comes to it, but change the ad and price and say its to cover his desexing fee. People lie through their teeth to get cheap dogs, can you get him into a rescue? -
Jerilderie anyone?

Raw V Good quality dry food [emoji848]
juice replied to Heath62's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed a bit of a mix too , because when I got Zelda she wouldn't eat raw unless kibble was mixed in as her breeder fed that . I only use half a cup and it's only super coat lite , she is tubby , with Roo , Vans and veggies . I should really look at a better diet kibble though , just does my head in reading about it all that's why i prefer raw . -
Vet – is this thorough or excessive? (Treatment and costs)
juice replied to mowgliandme's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes , meloxicam is cheaper than metacam , only found out when receptionist told me . Although online it seems to be almost half the price I just noticed . -

Personally i think its high, charging for hospital stay during the day on top of the x rays etc, after all after everything is done and he comes around he will go home, its not an overnight stay in a 24hour vets. After my recent specialist saga i am of the opinion they just add stuff on assuming you have insurance and will just cough up. Zelda is on Metacam , my other 2 old dogs were on Mobic ,( human version ), for arthritis at my old vets suggestion as its way cheaper. I am going to ask my new vet if he will either give me a script for Mobic or a script to buy the generic Metacam online . I would look at diet for the hotspots first, although a friends belgian suffers from them on her legs during the summer when the grass is long and wet and just uses Pred. -
It's about time breeders got their heads out of their arse or they will be their own downfall . If you put your email address on your listing and just ignore people it's rude . And the average joe is not savvy in the "right " questions to ask a breeder . I think I am and it's still a battle . When I fostered I had lots of applications for certain dogs ( purebred ones) , and even though homes were not suitable I replied and tried to steer them in the right direction . Perhaps it's my customer service work ethic to help people and I expect too much .

I think they are pretty hard to find. My neighbour had 2 Cardy's who passed away and she spent months trying to get a pup last year because people go on a wait list for puppies. She ended driving to Queensland from NSW to get a pup after someone on the list changed their mind. I would actually call and see if you can go on a wait list . I find alot of breeders just don't bother to reply, when i was looking for my last dog all the ones i emailed didn't respond, i find it bloody rude tbh and no wonder people go to petshops. I think there Azaih on here breeds corgi's, you could ask her.
-
Hadn't thought of a Cairn , thats a good choice to think of too, Westie?
-
Mack , I put a question mark at the end of my sentence as I was asking if they were good with kids and not suggesting they were not .
-
I really like cardigan corgis , but are they kid tolerant ? I know they have big attitude a neighbour has one .
-
Might be a bit busy being a terrier ? I have a client who lives on 5 acres and has 3 young kids and they bought a springer as their first dog . They have a few cows and chooks and she is inside and she has turned out to be ideal .
-
My first thought was a whippy , but loose on the farm a whippy would see something and be gone , beagle would put nose to ground and go the same . You need short coat , something that's not going to take off to hunt , but also good with kids . Well bred staffy might fit , but they can have issues with other dogs , so might not be ideal with all farm dogs . Border might work .
