  1. I would get a slightly older dog to start with. pups mouth , sharp teeth on kids hurts! They tug at clothes too. An adult dog in foster is a good start who is used to kids , you get a trail period too.
  2. Exactly , look at the sledge dogs actually used , bred for their job .
  3. It has to start at the top, but the show world is so far up its own ass it will never do it. Animal welfare groups have a field day with pedigree dogs and they have no one to blame but themselves, its selfish behaviour. If they really cared they wouldn't do it. Just look at how many frenchies there are listed because they fetch big bucks , but can't breathe!
  4. I think certain breeders are just downright cruel and don't care if they bring dogs into the world who can't breathe or walk just to win . And the governing bodies are clearly a joke .
  5. Breeders say they breed to improve the breed , what a load of BS. Judges should be ashamed of placing cripples , if they stopped winning things might change . No wonder the public is scathing of pedigree dogs.
  6. I agree , and poor bird being stuck inside . My mum has them in her garden I didn't realise how tiny they were .
  7. I don't really understand why you want a dog ? Because you think it might be good for your son ? A dog being subjected to that sort of behaviour will lead a miserable life, and your son may well get bitten when it comes to the end of its tether , perhaps you have friends with dogs your son could spend time with and see how he goes ?
  8. Perhaps you should concentrate on teaching your child to behave before you get a dog .
  9. She looked bigger and leggier in the pic , must be angle
  10. That beagle , cav has very long legs , looks a tad pointer or foxhoundish .
  11. I think you will find they don't come up in rescue because they a designer dog that holds a hefty pricetag, therefore if people decide they dont want them anymore they sell them to get money. Its the cross's not deemed designer that end up in rescue.
  12. Another one now on the retaining wall dying , jack spotted it and I'm sure he would throw it around , it's creeping me out as I'm waiting for it to die before I try and move it and it's wedged behind the ivy .Allday I have been checking on it and it's still just breathing poor thing .
  13. Its a real worry of mine, someone round here is clearly baiting as last week i let the dogs out for last pee and my pup started to nudge something in the grass, it was a dying rat.Thankfully Zelda didn't see it first or she would have eaten it . Its the second one, a few months ago there was another dead rat in the middle of my lawn one saturday arvo, thankfully Zelda was inside then too. I hate that they are confused by the bait and just die in random open spaces.
  14. Place train him. when my dogs come in from outside i open the door and they go straight to their crates because they get a reward, they then get rewarded for staying there, i also have beds in the lounge room and they get rewarded for being on them. Basically take him by the collar and say " place" as you put him on the bed you want him to be on, reward as soon as he is on it, ( to start with you may need to tie him to something to stop him getting off), then just keep randomly rewarding as you go past. They learn very fast where they get a reward from , i have never had any trouble with them getting on a couch . basically instead of tackling what you dont want him doing direct him to what you do want.
  15. Interesting that you now say you were prepared to pay $2000 for a purebred , but previously said only $1200 . You could have got a well bred pup from here for $2000 if you had called breeders . You may not have directly bought her from a puppy farmer , but that's where she came from . Hopefully she won't have lots of health issues down the track . I have been here a log time and it gets rather draining when new people come for advice then completely ignore it .
  16. I have no intention of sucking up to a moron who asked for advice then bought a puppy farm dog . The deed is done , seller is rubbing their hands together and buyer learnt nothing from coming here for advice other than to ignore it . I'm done with people who don't care about where their dogs come from and the misery they are creating by supporting it . Getting old and cranky and suffer fools less .
  17. Well this is boring the sh#t out of me now. Lets turn up ask for a designer crossbred, don't want to pay pedigree prices, want a dog NOW , so can't wait for rescue, go buy a puppy farm puppy,( more expensive than a purebred they didn't want to pay for), woe is me everyone hates me, everyone is now sucking up , don't leave, blah blah. Going soft DOL, or troll?
  18. Because the op came on saying they wanted to rescue a dog and wouldn't pay more than $1200 so a quality purebred was not likely , then proceeded to pay almost $500 more than that because they were just impatient and wanted a dog now , and the only people who supply " now" are puppy farmers .
  19. I don't have a problem if People are stupid enough to pay thousands for a mongrel , their choice . It's the carnage that comes with it I object to and the industry it feeds . And coming with " papers " is another line they spin , a vet check that merely says it has a head and four legs .
  20. The point is they are a mongrel with the pricetag of a purebred dog . With a purebred you can see the parents and they have been health checked, rather than 2 dogs bred in horrible conditions and shipped out to petshops leaving their parents to carry on a life in misery just to make money, and the people who buy them just keep feeding the industry. I will not call them by their marketed name, they are mongrels. But people are stupid and will pay thousands for them, often way more than a purebred dog. I have no problem with mongrels, i have always owned them , but i wouldn't pay stupid money for one to line to greedy pockets of puppy farmers.
  21. They are not a hybrid breed , they are a mongrel crossbreed. If they were a breed they would come with papers, they are a mutt bred to make money, end of. And all the ones i have met are either batshit crazy or scared of everything.
  22. Yes the puppy farmers are very good at placing dogs in false homes to sell .
  23. Rescue dogs have often been through A lot and rescues don't just hand them out to the first person who says I want it . Backtrack and start again , perhaps the replies you are sending are not coming over very well ? Remember they want a good home for the dog , I turned people down when I fostered , if the home wasn't better than mine they didn't go . you need to either take your time and wait or buy a pup from a registered breeder and pay more if you can't wait . If you go that route decide what breed you want and do some research before approaching a breeder so you know about the breed a bit more and if it would suit .
  24. Yep , could be flexing her muscles . And if you are becoming a breeder its a bit of a worry that you don't even know the correct breed name .
  25. Bear in mind a dog in rescue will be in a foster home so should already be housetrained so sex wouldn't really matter .
