Take on what the people who know this breed have said. don't think with your heart, use your head before you get too attached, its not worth it.
-
I think when you add up all the hours he actually is there for you its not that bad. I have seen him, and i remember emailing him daily for ages after the consult with questions , i think i was a right PITA

Seven Hills petshop sells raw meat and bones all bagged up in whatever amount you want. They supply alot of kennels, and deliver. i buy all my meat there, i just ring and order and go and pick it up.
-
I would just lie to get him out , can nobody just go and get him, surely someone near would fit the bill ? i wouldn't normally advocate fibbing, but really this calls for it.
-
So they would rather this breed go to someone with no clue as long as they don't have an entire dog at home, other than someone who knows what they are doing? FFS. Can you not just borrow someone else's home for a while

Wheaten Terriers In Rescue
juice replied to Sheridan's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
i think saying its a x something is ok, to blatantly not is just not on. -
Exactly, BCs are bred to be more amiable, doesn't mean they are smarter, in fact you could argue that they are dumb because they are waiting for intructions rather than working it out for themselves. Whereas terriers are bred to work it out, mine certainly won't do anything unless theres something in it for her, which could be classed as dumb. ( however i admit they aren't the shapest tool) :)

Rescue/pound Support Options?

make sure you give him somewhere to escape if he needs to, so he doesn't have to deal with her annoying him. -
Rescue/pound Support Options?
juice replied to yvonneh's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Basically if you buy from the pound its all over when you walk out the door, there is no backup. Perhaps you would be better off going with a rescue who has their dogs in foster care and can match one upto you, give you backup and you get a trail period. The risk you take from the pound is its very hard once you have them home to realise its not a good fit , you feel bad then about returning it. Dogs dont show their true colours in a pound, many shut down others are stir crazy in the pound ,but calmer out, so its hard to judge. There are plenty here who will point you in the right direction of a good rescue, not all on petrescue are ehtical, so be careful. -
darn will be overseas then

i get all my meat from seven hills pet shop too, they do deliver, just not sure that far, ask them.

would an ESS work? or not a gundog?

i see more and more people put off rescue because its all too hard, which it should be to an extent. i know i would probably get turned down as my dogs are outside.

Unknown Dogs Approaching Each Other To Greet
juice replied to Simply Grand's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dogs are not really fazed by other dogs , i wonder if its because i have always had more than one, and they can play anytime etc. or could be a breed thing? i see a lot of oodles our way who charge over to every dog they see , same with labs  I am also a pretty relaxed when out walking,if my dogs are offlead, and if we see a neighbours dog offlead we know ,they look to me to give them the ok to go say hello. i can call them back easily, or they just say hello and come anyway. i don't allow them to approach unknown dogs, even though we often get dogs running upto us offlead, then i decide wether i put myself inbetween, depending on the dog and the approach. i don't see the need for them to say hello to everydog we see ,( i have owners actually cross over to approach mine so their dog can say hello, normally being hauled along, and i have never met them before!, this i find annoying!), however they do like to greet the odd dog they know, a few mins later they are over it and want to move on. -
i actually prefer older dogs, however, there is senior, and then there is living on borrowed time, and i feel at 13 this rottie is the latter. Priorty must be to get him a home, and i see the price tag putting people off.
-
I understand what you are saying, and i know the oldies cost a fortune sometimes to get them well enough to adopt out, but i for one wouldn't even consider contacting you when i saw the fee,so others might just sidestep him for fear of asking. Its not about recouping what was spent sometimes, just a comfy spot to see out their days , has to be more important than being in a kennel.
-
He is a rottie, they dont live that long and at 13 he is already pushing it. I would hate to see his chances diminished thats all.
-
Mojo i would guess wont live that much longer, its a shame he has such a high price tag really. it could lose him that chance of a warm bed for his last year or so.
