  1. I did post in the Springer thread earlier in the week , but no replies so far. I have a client going to view Welsh Springer pups Sat and she texted me for advice. They are a family of 3 young children, stay at home mum, never owned a dog and mum is a bit wary of dogs, just moved to 5 acres, have cows and will be getting chooks. She did the purina breed choice and welsh springers came up. Any tips? i'm not sure this breed will be too much for them, but happy to be corrected :D

I never wanted a dally, but my kids talked me into looking at pups. 15 spotty little thugs ran across the paddock, so we had to leave with one! I have never regretted that day, you were perfect. You lived for walks, you could hunt bunnies allday , just lifting your head to check in to make sure i was still there, then you would shriek as you flushed one out and give chase. You and Jed were a formidable team. Over the years you were the perfect role model to all those naughty fosters, gently letting them know it was not ok to leap all over everyone. You were as solid as a rock, i trusted you with any dog or human ( cats and bunnies were another story) People told me dallys were stupid and destructive, they didn't know you, you were neither. Fostering stopped when you looked at me as if to say " not another one". When we got Bonn you loved her, even when she sat ontop of you on the couch! My daughter adored you, and you were her shadow, when she was out you would keep getting up to look up the stairs or at the front door till she came home and you could sit with her. Over the last year your body started to fail you, you didn't understand that your hips couldn't carry you anymore as you tried to power along still. It was heartbreaking to make the call last month not to take you on walks anymore as you just collapsed constantly, laying looking confused as to why you had fallen. You didn't understand and got distressed at being left behind when i took the others out for their walks. Then finally last week they gave up completley, and i knew it was time to let you go. So last Monday we made that final trip, with Brooke holding you we sat in the car waiting our turn at the vets. It was the hardest thing to watch you go and be strong for Brooke too. My big strong boy was a frail old man, where had the 14 years gone. The house feels empty without you, your bed is empty, your collar hangs up with your lead. I will miss you always, thankyou for 14 years of loyality my main man. Run free over the bridge.
  3. I feed chicken feet as i find my BT just swallows necks and wings whole! Then vomits them straight up and starts again. I may look at turkey necks.
  4. This dog should have been pts a long time ago, not everything should be saved. If there was an order that it shouldn't be released till it was safe there is a case to answer.
  5. Can they both not go outside during the day while you want to sleep ? They get fresh air and playtime to wear them out?
  6. vinyl here throughout the house, been down for over 10 years and still looks new, dogs are mainly out, but one in 24/7. its glued down, so no gaps, woke up to a sea of pee this morning and it just sits on the top. no scratch's , or marks, but its not cheap.
  7. I know Rotts are working dogs, but do they come in a go slow model too? I like my dogs a bit chilled and laid back , my current BT takes it to the extreme and could do with a few " go faster stripes" tho.
  8. just looked at Razaak dogs and wow they have a 41/2 month old boy for sale, he is stunning! would make me a lovely xmas pressie :D
  9. I contacted them and they said you had to pay extra if you wanted anything other than plain covers. I'm not paying $45 for a cover ontop of $150 for a large bed. Gave me some crap about fabric comes from the USA. Perhaps they should find fabric here then.
  10. His bed atm is a thick piece of memory foam with soft quilt like piece I put ontop aswell, then put it all in a fleece cover.
  11. ok, see your point, I have an old dally who is very wobbly and would be ideal for him. shame you cant get them in NSW.
  12. Any reason you cant just buy a Tontine quilt and put it in a regular dogbed cover?
  13. so did you have to pay extra to get the nice cover design? I think they look great, but wow, pricey!
  14. My BT has floppy ears, makes her look more dopey, my last one had them too. when I wanted this girl the breeder did say she had floppy ears and I was pleased
  15. yep, sucked it up and bought a bag of VANS yesterday. She really did look great on it, and all her itching and sore feet had gone, and so many people said how well she looked. I am still going to keep up all the organ meat and bones, sardines etc
  16. That's why I think they should post pics of the contents of the box's ,as expectations are different. they could always add a mystery one aswell, if you want to be surprised.
  17. i think its causing sore patch's on the girl, which is the concern, especially around her bottom. I did suggest vet and possible dementia, he is very fit and active. would a bitter spray help?
  18. I think a pic on their site with an example box would be the way to go to avoid disappointment, and a mention that its actually only $30 worth of goods due to postage.
  19. Depends where you are, I use Quakers Hill vets. Its normally full of greyhound trainers when I go.
  20. Hi, this is for a friend of mine who just called asking for advice. She has 2 poodles, male 11, female 4, both desexed , female is in charge, house dogs, very active walked daily. Over the last couple of months the old male boy has started to lick the girl constantly, all over, tum, face, back ,bottom, female generally lets him but will growl when she has had enough. Any idea's? I told her health check for both maybe the way to go first, could old dog be picking something up in the female? Or is it a behavior thing?
  21. I personally have found all the dogs I have had calmed down after being desexed, however I also know of many exuberant bullies who it made no difference too. They can be really full on , gorgeous , but I prefer my go slow model,my kids on the other hand would prefer a bully with a little more bounce
  22. Just wanted to pick everyones brain again  So, I have been feeding soaked rolled oats with a sprinkle of dried garlic and parsley, with roo mince, chicken feet, drumsticks, veggies, sardines twice a week, eggs twice, liver daily, kidneys 2/3 times a week. Bonns coat is not as shiny and is chewing her feet again. So tonight i wrote down all the ingredients in VANS and then googled each one for dogs and now my brain hurts! I'm wondering if i should try some flaxseed oil to the mix, or just give up and go back on the VANS. Thoughts?
  23. Staghound, although my daughter might push me into a mini BT  Rottie at some point too.
  24. And people wonder why joe blogs goes to the petshop to buy a pup, breeders who treat buyers like this are what causes the problem. There has to be a middle ground.
