  1. i don't agree with stopping it, i would prefer gumtree to put up a page on what to look for in an ad, they surely know by now multiple breeds for sale under one listing etc are puppy farms, perhaps that would be a better way to go.
  2. i had the same problem so last year went to katmandu and bought waterproof boots, they give you legs more support aswell , i walk on alot of uneven ground and they really help. i was paying over $200 for a pair of trainers that were only lasting a few months these still look new.
  3. You have had a bully and aren't smitten  Cattle and bully, my 2 dogs atm, cant go wrong! dally i just lost mine, wonderful breed , but shed like nothing i have ever seen! i second rottie?
  4. Do what Christina says and do a homecheck aswell, people lie to get dog, so don't just trust what they say. Get it desexed, that will weed out alot of people looking to make a quick buck breeding then dumping it. And sorry to sound harsh, but i would rehome the other dog too, stuck in a yard allday never getting walked is not much fun for a 2 year old visla.
  5. I wouldn't stress too much about the 'bite" ,could have been they stuck their hand in the wrong place, if at all. Sounds like they were in the wrong and they are trying to cover their backsides. For all you know they could have coaxed him over and he ran up and jumped on them and freaked them out, their dog got narky, etc etc. glad you have a witness. just relax and it might go away.
  6. Did anyone see the article and footage of a BC being beaten by its owner outside behind cars at crufts?
  7. The voice of reason HW ! Lets not forget that purebreds were bred for certain traits, wether they have been watered down its still there, and being breed blind is dangerous. I rarely go to offlead parks etc, but if i happen to take my son to a certain skate park that has one next to it with my dogs i never go in if there is a staffy or amstaff in there. ( i also watch from outside for a while to make sure the dogs in there are ok too, whatever breed). we must remember ,j ust because our dog of that breed is wonderful it doesn't change the mould.
  8. I don't see where she said her Amstaff was in a dog park. You dont have to be in a dog park to have idiots and their dogs running loose around you.
  9. I think what the op is after is not just a dog to get along with her current dog, but one she can happily take out and about and not worry about it being prone to aggro. I think as a breed we must recognise they dont suffer fools, and its something that should be considered. I never put my BT in a situation i am not happy with as as with SBT ,they will finish it.
  10. I find as a breed they get over stimulated very fast which can end badly. I agree that perhaps looking at an older dog proven to be dog friendly maybe the way to go. You will get a good match and a trail period if its a good rescue, but beware there are some shonky rescues out there too, who lie to get dogs placed. I rarely recommend my breed, but have you considered a Bull Terrier? All mine have been rock solid with other dogs, lots of breeders have older dogs looking for homes too
  11. we havn't been to Featherdale or Taronga for years, but i was only thinking the other day i would take the 2 teens to Featherdale next school hols. Do they still have the snake they bring out to hold? My daughter loved that, i had to go and stand out of sight as i want to vomit at the sight of a snake.
  12. Who leaves their dogs unattended though? With the general public allowed in the area too.
  13. Interesting replies. I was thinking of buying an old property when i retire and having a cottage to let on the property too, and just assumed i would make it pet freindly, but after some of the replies i might change my mind  I would give a very safe fenced garden, and dog run, and dogs allowed inside , but not on beds or furniture. i dont see how you can clean it enough between lets if someone had their dogs on everything and the next people had no pets, the time restraint might make that impossible? or am i just anal about living in a clean house  lots to think about.
  14. He's clearly an oodle mix, its like every dog with a dark muzzle must be a mastiff x
  15. I am appalled that they are being given more money to regulate when they couldn't do it in the first place! Changing a dogs ownership is all that will happen and they will carry on. So far not impressed , they deserve to see it banned.
  16. If they have to break the law to stop these wankers then so be it, clearly no one else was doing anything about it, and i don't believe they didn't know it went on.
  17. My very first suggestion was a Cav, but she didn't like the look of them. I saw her today, they have paid the deposit as pups were nearly all spoken for. The breeder sounds lovely, has given her heaps of advice . All sounds great , i have told her i expect puppy cuddles
  18. Winning in the show ring doesn't equal good dogs always. Wait for someone to recommend someone to you, and then look at their dogs. :)
  19. I actually watched it last night, but looked away when they strapped animals to the lure. Two of the tracks are five minutes from me. I heard on the radio yesterday the RSPCA saying prosecution would be hard, WTF are they talking about! they have footage , know names, how much more do they need? Its clear this industry needs an outside body to regulate it.EXcuses that the places it goes on on out of the way is crap, they are huge properties, the two near me are easy to get to, less than an hour from Sydney CBD! I wont hold my breath for anyone getting jail time over this, and the big trainers can cop huge fines with no problem, and they will just transfer dog ownership to family members and carry on.
  20. I have a neighbour who used to race, and he told me years ago it still happens, he saw it alot he said. There is no reason these people could not be prosecuted, they have plain and simple evidence of cruelty, but i wonder how many will actually get bans and fines in reality.
  21. Nothing will happen, a bit of noise in the right direction, the odd one shown up to save the others, money is the only thing that matters.
  22. Update, they went to see the pups, i had told her to write a list of questions and she did. The breeder is on Dol, and sounds great. Breeder thought 5 acres would be exercise enough, however i'm not sure they mentioned they wouldn't be walking it, i have told them dogs don't normally self exercise, so will mention it to her again. Breeder recommended a trainer, i suggested K9Pro's puppy school which is very close to them. Breeder said no difference between boys and girls really, i had given all the advice on here. So they are selling the pups now so have to decide quickly, think that decision has already been made judging by the pic she sent me of one of the kids with a pup
  23. Purina test found non suitable for me either
  24. One of my first replies to her was check grooming, and she said they just needed trimming? I texted her last night, and told her to ask lots of questions when she goes, and that if the breeder puts her thru the ringer it was a good sign. She is also interested in crate training, i have no idea on that ,but again said talk to breeder. I still think an older welsh would be better, hopeing its a good breeder who will steer her right, the breeder is listed on dol. I will see her Mon for kids haircuts, so hope to get an update then. Any tips i should give for crate training?
  25. Thankyou. She came in last week to have her hair done and she started to ask for advice about dogs, i suggested taking her time and to look at breeds she likes. My first thought was a Cav, but she said she didn't like the goggle eyes. I did suggest an older dog, as she has 3 young kids, hubby works long hours and she is not dog savvy, but hubby said no to that, wants a pup . She wants low aggression , (assume purina test wording), low shedding, medium, easy to train, loveable to kids. She said the breeder shows and parents are hip scored, but had no idea it was the score itself you needed. The pups are only a month old, so can't take them yet, so hope she may get back to me after she has seen them before she decides. I just thought i could give her feedback on suitability, i knew plenty in the UK ,but they worked as gundogs.
