  1. Nope , you had your dogs offlead, i do too, but i would cop the consequence's myself. Did it occur on the factory grounds? If so you could be at at fault as his dogs were on private property which your dogs ran onto. Harsh i know but not really a leg to stand on unless he offers.
  2. I always take them to the 24 hour vet hospital behind me, that way thay get to go to the nicer pound :) They did turn me away once, said they were too busy to hold the ancient doddery old Cav who i found wandering and panting on a really hot day. They eventually gave me the address of the owner and i dropped him off.
  3. So your 2 dogs got out , 2 other dogs were out loose too, they all had a fight and one of your dogs died. I don't see how you can claim anything, you were both in the wrong as far as dogs out, accident or not. If your dogs had killed one of the other dogs you would be happy no further action was being taken. sad that a dog died, but accidents happen if gates are not locked.
  4. I just saw the Goldie too, i wonder if the cav has heath probs so thats why its being offloaded. There is another add for 2 cavs free aswell, male and female, thats a worry, they are in Liverpool. its a good job i never look on gumtree
  5. Does anyone know where he is? I can go and get him out of that place now if it helps. I have a client in my street looking for a first dog, and i suggested a cav, maybe too old, but happy to get him out before he ends up who knows where. I'm not sure he would be happy with my 3 here, but i could keep him inside, if its just to get him out of the situation. If a rescue needs me to get him and hold him for a bit let me know.
  6. Interesting post Ricey. Would you post a pic of the way a Pit ,and Amstaff should look? If you can find any.I would love to see what they really should be looking like. I too hate the adds for "massive heads". This week i have seen 2 huge Amstaffs ( rare blue of course), and they were certainly no athlete's. As far as rescue and desexing goes, its to stop more dogs being born that no one wants from mutts. I do remember having to send dogs to WA a few years back, i sent a lovely red boy who i miss dearly, my kids wanted to keep him, but with his lovely red coat and nose he wasn't safe here. And ot, there is a Tibetan Mastiff at the end of my street, huge beast! :D
  7. I agree totally, iggys would be a wreck in the pound. Also Sharpie don't present well normally either.
  8. I prefer the oldies too, but as Dogmad said, years of neglect often mean they have a huge vet bill first just to get them happy again, ( ears, dental, coat), especially the little ones. The old ones i have had were very special, they hit you like nothing else, i had a wonderful kelpie x corgi, who lived for less than a year before she died of cancer, and an old bully who was the same. They leave huge holes in your heart, are often not rehomeable, ( something you don't know till you get them home),and the drain mentally and financially is hard on the rescuer. I would go oldie everytime without a doubt tho.
  9. Good on you Jozman for taking it all in. Just remember, a business is just that, it maybe something you enjoy, but always keep in mind its there to make money and by that you need to keep your customers happy. Make sure you get strict instructions from each owner, i never let any of the dogs i walked say hello to other dogs, its my responsibiblty to keep them safe and avoid incidents. Its a great way of getting new business too, i often had people when they saw me out walking or pulling up outside, if i did dog walking and asked if i could do theirs too. I could have picked up alot of business along the way, but just kept it to friends. Always be in control, don't take on too much, if multiple dogs in a household are too hard to walk togther split them up. :)
  10. Zeph is stunning :D I used to like the Rottie in Sheks banner, where is she?
  11. i want to see the pic straight after, did they all get one each , or did one grab them all
  12. I was just about to ask who was the gorgeous red one
  13. Nothing to add, just saw your name Ricey, good to have you back!!!
  14. Ok, going to be straight with you here, if your breeder is telling you to get an xray this early, and has sold her to you to let you breed when you clearly know nothing is ringing alarm bells to me. I would tell people here where you are and get a good vet recommendation first and go and see what they say. Breeding is not easy, and shouldn't be done just because your dog is cute.
  15. I think it give's a good outline, but breeds need to be taken into account as Dogmad said. Cattle dogs often don't test well either, i had one foster who was terrified in the pound, pee'd himself and cowered, outside he was a nutter  Also, i am wary when someone says the dog ignore's other dogs either side of him, sometimes' this means the dog has shut down in the pound situation and is just not reacting at all. I think more people would do it if they were given a bit of training as to what to look for etc. I was about to say i would, but then i thought of the other hurdle........once you see them in the flesh its hard to walk away and not take them.
  16. Is there a reason you havn't just contacted the breeder for a chat? Seems the most sensible thing to do, they surely know you are new to this , you said you bought her to breed from, are you intending to breed with her or are you sending her back to the breeder?
  17. why don't you try and walk dogs for RSPCA first to see how you go? It would give you the experience without the outlay to start with.
  18. said so much better than me  yes, i think that is exactly what she believe's.
  19. Becks, its different here, not as dog friendly, and if things go wrong the dogs here pay the price. Its far more laid back in the UK with dogs. I agree DD,you need to get to know your clients and dogs first.
  20. Not a bad idea actually It would be a good idea for a ranger to pop down and see them in action and make a note. No Dogmad, they shouldn't be in there, one gets very much in the others dogs faces, and doesn't stop, his owner seems to have watched a bit too much Ceasar, and will alpha roll him ,or dig him in the sides when he won't leave other dogs alone.
  21. I think if it picked a fight with either of the 2 young powerful amstaffs i have seen in there most days , who get very overstimulated the muzzle would be very detrimental.
  22. True SL, i have worked out over the years its best to go "softly softly" with people. I have had lots of people ask me what breed Bonn is, and they have been surprised at how placid and chilled she is, the dobe owner even asked for a pic of her.( although because she is such a slug the first thing everyone asks is "is she really old", she is 5) I would love to see diagrams in dog parks with dogs posture on it, sort of like "if your dog is doing this its scared, uncomfortable etc"
  23. BB,yes British Bulldog, very fit and agile young man he was too, leapt up onto the flat table top seats there  Its sad for the whippys, she said they came from the RSPCA , she got one 3 months before the other, they are siblings, but one was being rehabilitated first, there dad was there too but was pts she said. I am sure we will be there again over the hols, i havn't seen here before, but am wondering for their sake if i should just tell her the risk she is putting her dogs at, and that their behavoir is leading to the problems. I would have kicked it too if it had started on mine.
  24. Its been a very interesting week, i have been there for hours on end ( no dragging my son away), and in some cases it works well, there was one day where there were at least 8 labs in there playing together, a couple of young boxers playing happily, and another day with lots of oodles . Its when the mix of dogs is wrong it goes pear shaped. I noticed there is a lady who goes in everyday i have been there with a BC and ball which its very possesive of, and a young entire BB came charging in ,went near the BC and it snapped at the BB , 3 times it did it, each time the BB turned his rump on it, another dog might not have been so forgiving. I have enjoyed watching all the different breeds from the safety of outside, the ouside area is massive, so i have plenty of area to walk them outside the offlead bit in peace.
