  1. I do get where the op is comming from, i would want to know the price of the dog and i get peed off that it seems to be a bit taboo i'm a single mum and i need to know if i can afford the purchase price, just like anything i buy too many breeders are too uptight about that one. I too haggle over anything i can, and do lots of research before i buy anything, but a dog, no, that is based on matching the right dog for my family, i would never dream of haggling or asking for a discount on anything. If i can't afford it i don't buy it. My last dog came from a breeder interstate, initially they didn't want me to have her without going to see them, with 2 kids and a business it just wasn't feasable, it looked like all was lost, until i called them, emails dont give you that "feel", we spent hours chatting ( well, the husband was very chatty, the wife gave me yes ,no answers and it was like pulling hens teeth), but once they spoke to me they were fine with it all. I arranged transport etc as i considered it my job. i can see both sides to this, and its only from years being on here i now know how to approach it, newbies don't. earning a big salary means nothing, and i wouldn't mention it. Perhaps send another email saying you apologise if you sounded blunt, but you are new to it all,and ask if they would prefer to chat about it?
  2. I would probably write it all down and drop it into her, if she is young and scatty she may forget it all. Things like, which is a good brand of food to try, which wormer flea etc, tell her to buy online its cheaper, if you give people the tools to do things they are more likely to try. Personally i would have suggested desexing now, i know he is young, but he is a big breed and seems he can escape already.
  3. Which just shows you know little about BT's mine is the most chilled placed dog you could meet  Not my funeral, you have been given advice, you choose to ignore it, your loss :D
  4. So as you have done nothing about it, and the cat continue's , so the dog is now missing out the warning signs and going straight for the snap. It will only escalate, and the cat will come off worse. You are not helping this situation at all by just shooing off the cat, you know darn well it will do it, remove the cat before you put his food down. FFS HOW HARD IS IT!!!!!
  5. I suggest you read your first post again. You say your dog is being a 'jerk" because he growled at the cat, the cat continued so he snapped at him. No where did you say the cat was being a jerk, when its the cat who is the one at fault. As you chose not to stop the cat the dog had to. How hard is it to put the dog somewhere it feels safe to eat in peace?
  6. So after endless advice, do you think its ok for your cat to annoy ,steal food from your dog whilst its eating?
  7. Your kinda missing the point again, i am just trying to show its a natural thing, like cats chase mice. And relieved you don't ever want to own a bully, with your ideals you would be in big trouble.
  8. I think you should have a puppy bbq!! we could all come for puppy cuddles
  9. They would also be dead in my house, so would a cat, and i have no problem with that.
  10. Dogs can't speak, they use other tools. If i am unhappy with what someone is doing, i ask them to stop, your dog is doing the same to the cat in dog language. Its really simple, dogs will show aggression when every other language has not been heeded. I am trying to explain this so you get it,( as clearly you don't), your dog is not being a "jerk", he is being a dog!!!!. I have no idea why you can't see it, or choose not to. Next time don't ask for advice if you can't take it.
  11. If a better home comes up than i can give them i let them go. It may take age's ,but if its right it will be ok, if you can't let her go when the time comes, you know its a FF.
  12. she wouldn't have known if it had been done, they could have just told her they would, and kept it alive.
  13. I have fostered many pig dogs, and they are my favorite, very chilled and easy going dogs. 2 of my dogs would fail an RSPCA temp test i have no doubt, my dally would kill a bunny or cat given the chance, which is an immediate fail. I didn't watch it last night i get too wound up. On a side note, i get fed up with all the publicity they get about helping native animals each week, if you ring them their bog standard reponse is "call Wires, we don't do native's". ( unless there is a camara rolling clearly) I have a client who is a carer for wires, and she doesn't have anything good to say about them at all.
  14. And yet again someone who comes here for advice, gets given rock solid info, and because it doesn't suit them is childish. This is getting boring.
  15. Ok, thanks. My 2 had a spat early on, something i should have spotted earlier, and my BT went for my cattle dogs front leg, he screamed like nothing else, once she had him on his back and stood over him for a second it was over. After a visit from K9 pro i realised he was the trouble maker .
  16. Really interesting post HP Just curious as it was mentioned , if a dog goes for the throat does it mean it more than if it tries to take a front leg out?
  17. Also most of the staffies around are byb ones who don't even look like a real one. I was at a dogpark this weekend, first time in ages as its next to kids skate park and took the dogs with me. Only scrap was with a staffy who was carrying a soccer ball around the whole time, ( his young macho owner thought it was good to lift him up by it and hurl him around), and an entire amstaff who went near the ball. I watched from the outside for a while, and both these owners had no idea their dogs were intimidating other dogs. The amstaff owner kept alpha rolling him too But i digress, really get some help, one dog living in fear of another, and the other always on guard is not good for either dog. It only takes one sideways look and it coud be on, don't take the risk. Also don't get any old trainer in, there are plenty of bad ones ,spending money now is the best way to go. good luck.
  18. Yep, just remember she is a mature female now and you have another girl at home now too. Bear in mind too it may take a few weeks for her to show her true ( new) colours aswell. I don't want to dampen your hopes, but be careful. One of my lovely female fosters, a big bull arab scruffer girl came back to me once, ( on hols),she was now mature, confident, and very much more dominant than when she left me.
  19. She may not have felt it while she was under, but she certainly would be sore for a long while after, right on the sensitive part of her tum. If he wants to id her microchip her! The ears are a f#*king disgrace!! Animals are not ours to mutliate for our own ego.
  20. I have noticed alot here too this year, and big ones that bloody hurt, i had bites on my ankles the other day . I went and got some dog fly repellant, think it was the Troy one, and i sprayed all the dog beds aswell as the dogs and it works, i do it most days and the flies have almost gone.
  21. Did you do any research before you bought this dog? What exactly do you intend to do with her when she is fully grown ,if you have no shade now? This may sound harsh, but really ,she is not a hamster to spend all her time in a cage, she needs to be outside, playing eating grass, exploring and enjoying herself. She is a puppy, she cannot hold on that long in a crate to wee at this age. There are 3 pages of advice here, read it, get her a kennel for outside and let her start being a dog, or get a stuffed one instead..
  22. One of the vets at my surgery is against raw aswell, he said it can cause salmonela . My vet there is fine with me feeding it. I feed VANS complete mix ,and roo meat, which is really lean. I also give them a chicken drumstick or wing for brekky. I would have thought the VANS and meat was fine on its own it contains everything they should have i wouldn't worry about adding extra vitamins, eggs would be ok i presume. You could always contact VANS , they have a thread here and ask, pretty helpful.
  23. Can you suss out the other dogs before you let him off, even mention to owners he is a bit full on? I would keep a close eye on him and if he gets told to back off by another dog and doesn't put him back on lead. Being entire can often be a problem as other dogs often don't like them.
