  1. Wow, all these cats doing so well! My girl turned 14 in April I think, and still going fairly strong - she seems a bit demented as she has to be walked to her food bowl all the time ( ) but then again maybe she just has us well trained  I've pretty much grown up with her, will be very hard to see her go, as I don't even remember life without her...even though I am a few years older than her. She is an indoor cat, and I hope there is many more years with her :D I third...or fourth or fifth an oldies thread! :D
  2. Aw he's so cute, and I love the name! The girls have the most beautiful colourings!
  3. Wow, very interesting breed. They look so much like a hound however it seems they are a herding type dog. Correct me if I'm wrong
  4. Aw poor puppy Cherry has been in a few bad scuffles in her time, ending up with scratches, but bathing it in salt water worked wonders Don't feel bad, it wasn't your fault! Dogs will be dogs, and I'm sure she's forgotten about it already :D
  5. I second showdog, I think it is very doable to have different breeds. I have 3 fairly different breeds, and they all get on fine. Cherry is a dainty staffy cross girl, who doesn't like to play with other dogs, and certainly does not like the rough and tumble of an Aussie, and she let him know that, and Rusty respects that. Then I Rusty the aussie is forever playing really rough with Biscuit the schip, but Biscuit loves it, as he doesn't know any different anyway! I think just keeping the berner seperate from the aussie when you're not at home to save those growing bones from the rough-and-tumble play style of aussies will be all it takes :)
  6. MY AUSSIE IS NOT A BORDER COLLIE   Am really loving this thread, som of the things said are just hilarious!
  7. Very interesting thread. My 3 dogs have different routines, but I'd say they're all mostly outside. Cherry sleeps inside at night as I don't appreciate her killing wildlife. Besides she is much comfier in 'her' (my!) bed. Rusty is outside a lot of the time as he annoys the cat too much, and like Biscuit, eats her food. As the cat is a confused old girl who must stay inside at all times, I must take into account her well-being as Rusty is very annoying to her. Biscuit is also outside a lot of the time, and sleeps in a soft crate outside at night. I don't want him in as I feel bad for Rusty being outside alone, and if he's not in his crate he could easily get taken by a snake. I would much rather them all be inside more often, but dad doesn't like that as he grew up with keneled dogs and has a short temper, so gets easily frustrated by the boys' annoying habits  However lately they have all been inside more often, when they are clean and not smelly, Rusty and Biscuit get to sleep in my room some nights. As they are settling down I let them in when dad's not home. I plan on training them to stay on a mat when inside, so they still get to be close to us, but without Rusty's hair going all over the house. I spend a lot of time with them during the day, training and exercising them. So they are certainly not neglected. But I wouldn't crate them during the day, or at night when inside...I feel much safer with them to protect me :)
  8. Haha yep! The old girl does so well on Eukanuba, whereas the Aussie does well on Holistic Select, but I haven't yet found the food Biscuit does the very best on. So far he does best on Eukanuba, but I still think he could do better. Dogs just make it so hard for us these days  ETA: Eek, after reading all these posts of dogs getting really sick, I'm worried now! Hopefully it's all good.
  9. What rubbish!! Plenty of dogs have started agility at 3+ years and been very succesful at the sport. In fact at 3 you might find him easier to train as he'll probably be more settled and sensible than an adolescent Vizsla :) Yep. I didn't start training in agility with a club until Cherry was 3, then competing when she was 5. She is now 11 and still going. She's got so many titles behind her name now, and she just loves it so much. Rusty hasn't even matured and started really getting into it until now, and he's 4. He gave me a lot of greif when we first started competing  And I started training Biscuit for it at about 12 months, and competing at 2 years, and he's taken to it straight away. Age is really just a number, and with slow maturing breeds it us sometimes better to start older so you don't have to deal with the "what's in it for me?" stage
  10. I too would be interested to have a look at all the titled schipperkes :)
  11. Oh, I thought it was already grain free. Darn It's corn, wheat & soy free Oops having a blonde moment, it was corn I was thinking of
  12. Oh, I thought it was already grain free. Darn
  13. Am finally taking the plunge and giving BH a try. Hope they don't get sick! Am getting a sample pack sent up from Townsville, then the lady is kindly bringing up a 3kg and a 20kg at the Cairns ag show for me to pay for and pick up, which is in 2 or 3 weeks time. Fingers crossed this food goes well as it is so cheap and high quality!
  14. Advantix hands down. Used it on the staffy mix for about 5-6 years, and the Aussie and the schip all their lives. Never seen a single flea in all this time. I have noticed Frontline only works for a certain amount of time unfortunately. But I love Advantix, never had any side effects either I pair Advantix with inteceptor for worm treatment. I also hope to use my boy at stud, and Advantix hasn't been a risk to this possibility.
  15. That's disgusting People like this just ruin it for everyone.
  16. No, I loved going up to Atherton and taking a dog with me, this is so unfair I have never seen poo around there anywhere, and this is vandalism, I highly doubt a dog has picked up its own poo and smeared it through shops I'm so disapointed now
  17. A schipperke sounds perfect. My boy housetrained sooo easily, never had an accident in the house. He is a small dog, with a BIG personality...he really doesn't really he is small. He loves swimming and playing ball, and because schips are so food oriented, training is a breeze. Biscuit will come racing back to me when called, no matter what the distraction...as long as I have treats with me :D As a bonus, they are black dogs, like your son wants However they do have very long lifespans, it is not unheard of for them to live to 17 years. So you really have to be 100% sure and dedicated. They will also need a good walk/run everyday, or they will go extremely hyper.
  18. Interesting read, didn't realize there were any in Australia, would love to own one one day...but I don't that will happen  Good luck in your search
  19. Congrats!! He is just so adorable, glad he is fitting in so well! :)
  20. I'm like this too...schipperkes are just so precious, and going so well in the country at the moment, I'd hate to see them become the latest trend Poor whippets
  21. Great videos amypie! Thanks for sharing :D Trixie does very well, and the indoor arena is just lovely!
  22. I have a cat in the house, it's basically more of a worry if the dog and cat cuddle and lick each other. I would just be worried that a product not working on fleas, would be less effective in tick prevention also
