  1. This is so beautiful to read, thanks for sharing. Sounds like Buddy got a lucky save, and has a wonderful life now :D
  2. Aw, this is the cutest thread ever! I just couldn't pick a winner But really, I think I have the 3 cutest, silliest dogs in the world living under my roof :D But it's Raining Outside... 3/52 by All4aBiscuit, on Flickr Grandma or Pop Culture? ..::.:.::::18/52 by cherrylassierusty Limited Flickr Time, on Flickr IMGP3364 by cherrylassierusty Limited Flickr Time, on Flickr
  3. Aww he is so cute, and what a good pup posing so nicely with the chicks! I know 2 of mine would not be so tolerant
  4. Hi R and B, Burn out is the last thing that any of us want for your dog. Definitely cut out the bike ride after the run. maybe alternate between running and cycling so that the dog is accustomed to both. With the training you are currently doing, i am quite confident you will have no problems at all competing in an ET. Which test do you have in mind? M OK, thank you very much Luckily I hadn't started the bike rides yet! I'm guessing you mean where I'm doing the test? If so I am doing the Tablelands in QLD :)
  5. Sorry, Rusty is a 25kg Australian Shepherd. Thank you very much for your advise...burning him out or injuring is definately the last thing I want to happen! So should I just stick to my 7-9km runs and just don't bother doing the bike ride around the block 20 minutes after? Thank you again by the way Abbiestar, it's much appreciated :D
  6. Alright, pretty sure I have my goals sorted now! For me, it is to train one dog each day, for 10 minutes a day. For relationship buidling, mental stimualtion, and because they thoroughly enjoy it. And my individual goals for them: Cherry Even though she's now retired, I might put her in a Rally-O comp now and then just for fun, but my main goal for her is to give her the best and most comfortable retirement! Rusty Get his ET title CD Get him reliably trained with the dumbell Get a Q in ADX Get a Q in ADO and JDO Get a title in one of the games Have him doing nice tight turns by the end of the year, and keeping up his good contacts and weave poles. Biscuit Get AD title Compete in a tracking trial Keep up good weave pole performance, teach tight turns and work on distance work. Let's all have the funnest year yet
  7. E+H, I was thinking of running, but staying at 10-11km an hour for 20km, I just don't think I could do it...so I'm taking the easy way out and using dad's bike  For training, I am running with Rusty 7-9km about once or twice a week, I was thinking when I get back from my trip, so in about April, to start doing the 9km run, coming home for a 10-20 minute break, then taking him for a 4.7km bike ride around the block...is this too much or not enough? Should I be doing a second round around the block about a month before the ET? Sorry, I am a bit clueless with the training part of the ET, just want to make sure I'm doing it right :D
  8. What a gorgeous girl she is! Happy belated birthday, and may there be many more to come
  9. 5 times does seem rather excessive. On certain foods, including BH, Eukanuba and Advance, Rusty was pooing 3-4 times a day and became quite underwieght, and I was feeding him 2-3 cups. Since changing him to Holistic Select Anchovy he is only going 1-2 times, and only on 1 and a half cups a day and is in excellent condition. However my other 2 do just great on Eukanuba, they poo 1-2 times a day, and perfect weight. I noticed Biscuit dropped weight and pooed more on BH. But as others have pointed out, each dog is different and it is just about finding a food that works for the individual dog :)
  10. I'd say we are all healthy :D I 'eat clean', so try to eat foods in the most natural state possible, and eat to nourish my body. Although my dogs aren't on a raw diet, as I just don't have the time, I would say they are healthy too. They're health and fitness is a priority to me, as others have said, they don't make the concious decisions for themselves, we do it for them. So I feed 2 Eukanuba, as that's what they respond best to, and the other on Holistic Select anchovy, as that's what he does best on. They'll also get the extra treat and chicken frame here and there, and they do get the occasional "cheat treat/meal" just as I do :D
  11. R & B I gather Biscuit is a Schippy?? well they are very fit little dogs, I know a few Schippy's down here that have done it & romped it in, just start him off with doing a couple of km's for the 1st couple of weeks then build it up, that also goes for your speed as well start at about 7kmph as you build the distance build you speed. well you know the saying "Anything you can do, I can do better" hell no!!!! it is broken up just like they do for horse Endurance rides. Yes he is! Oh excellent, that's good to know! :D Thanks for the tip, will do!I'm so excited to do it with Rusty in July :D But my only concern is, which I only just thought of today whilst on my run, I am going to be overseas for a month starting March, is it possible Rusty will lose majority of the fitness we've built up to? Because obviously he won't be getting runs, just strolls from the housesitter
  12. Thanks murve :D Will definately pop into the 2012 thread to have a read! Read through the ANKC rules, I for some reason thought it was one 20km stint, but that's great it's just 8, 6, 6, I think Rusty and I would almost be set That's great what you're doing with your paps! I am a bit nervous to begin training with Biscuit next year, I just can't fathom how such little legs can go so far at such a pace
  13. I always get so excited reading this topic! :D Can't wait to see pictures Jules and Remy, one more sleep! And hereoswitbsd, she is just super adorable
  14. I think this was explained well Very interesting, this is usually when I notice Biscuit and Rusty sigh, otherwise it's when they relax into a deeper state...very cute either way!
  15. Pretty sure I should now be joining this thread! I'm going to give it a shot with Rusty...very nervous though, as I've never done it before and have no idea what to expect so any tips for training are greatly appreciated! So far we have been running 9km and he copes well with that, but want to build him up slowly. Glad it's in the Tablelands this year, it's quite often in Townsville instead which to me, is a long drive  And if all goes well, I might even try little Biscuit next year, as his sires dam (I think that's correct) has her ET, and murve has me inspired, proving that small dogs can do it too!
  16. Haha aww he looks so sad and grwumpy! Bless him! Alibi, what a character you have!
  17. I am so so sorry for your loss, this is just disgraceful, and no one should have to be in the horrible position you are in RIP Buddy
  18. So sorry about Turtle But Omar is super cute, reminds me of Piglet, he looks like such a character! Welcome back :)
  19. Love this show, have been taping it and then watching it on a Saturday or Sunday night (nights where I have nothing to watch because Neighbours isn't on ). But then again, I usually love any show that is dog training related! An exception to that being The Dog Whisperer *rollyeyes* I looooved the episode where they went to Canada with the military dogs, thought it was brilliant, the dogs were amazing And I did really like the one in Aus at the Lost Dogs Home, very sad, however I hope many potential BYB's were watching closely. I will show that ep. if and when anyone I know decides it will be a great idea to breed their dog. But I did think the most recent episode in Hollywood was quite boring...don't know why, just did. What do you guys think?
  20. Haha Rusty is a goof  And which end? The left or right? Just checked, oh dear, I better take more pictures I don't have any recent ones! Will have to take some this afternoon when the lighting is good. But if you're in a rush both are in my sig :D
  21. How exciting!! :D Do keep us updated when she gets her pup...because once you mention them, puppy photos are a must :p
  22. How exciting to have this new little guy come to help fill the hole in your heart :) It's never easy losing them, but I found Rusty really helped after the loss of my first dog. I still have to stuff in the shed, 4 and a half years later...just can't part with it yet Can't wait to see photos of Harry as he grows :D
  23. Haha love it  I get excited by new dog products I've never seen in stores before When my dogs like the things I buy them When their teeth look nice and not all plaque-y Being greeted when I get home
