  1. An Akita could possible fit the bill. Naturally protective of their property and their families. They are incredibly people orientated. My husband works shift work as well, and I honestly don't have a care in the world when he's on nights (which he is on this week) as I know no one would be game to come in the house with Kyojin around. Akitas are very large and have a very loud bark - they also do not bark just for the sake of it, they will only bark when they are suspicious of something. Not a high energy breed at all. Happy to go for a walk or run of course or play a bit of soccer, but also won't notice it if they miss out. They will pretty much sleep all day otherwise.
  2. So very lovely. I always love seeing your photos. Happy Gotcha Day Bruno!!
  3. We built this for Kyojin when we first got him, but he soon decided that he was an inside dog only so it was a bit useless really. Pity, we were very proud of ourselves.
  4. This just proves another reason why you shouldn't let your cats roam. :mad Very lucky that you found him! Thank you for taking him to get treated. I hope this gives his owners a wake up call. Fingers crossed for him!
  5. I see tons of huge Malamutes around these days that are FAR larger than the breed standard. A lot of people who own these dogs want them for their size. They're definitely being bred larger and larger these days. I can only imagine the issues their joints would have.
  6. Don't forget to take a collar and lead! And poo bags.
  7. I've been absolutely thrilled with Medibank Pet Insurance. I've had numerous claims, totaling to around $8000 I'd say now, maybe more, for Kyojin's knees (only had surgery on the one so far) and they've always paid every claim within two weeks, no questions asked. Apparently they only do 80% of claims now, but as I'd already paid, I received 100% back (last appointment was about 2 months ago). They've saved us an absolute fortune.
  8. I completely agree. We have a dog right behind us that barks literally for hours every single god damn day. I keep getting migraines from listening to him, and that's even with keeping our house shut at all times and cranking the tv to try and drown out the noise. My husband is a shift worker and is being kept awake by him (even with ear plugs) and has even had to call in sick because he's had so little sleep. We're massive dog lovers, but even our patience is wearing very thin. I've typed up a letter (a very nice one) to our neighbours with some suggestions on what they can do. I'm definitely putting debarking on there because quite frankly, I doubt they'll do anything where real effort on their part is required. I honestly believe the debarking him is the best solution. I have spoken to council about it (but they won't do anything until I sit at home for 7 days and record every single time the dog barks ) but I really don't want to see their dog getting hurt because of this.
  9. Fantastic!!! I'm so happy for him for gaining a wonderful new home, and I'm so happy to hear how excited you are about it!!
  10. These are awesome. My sister keeps telling me off for trying to "train" her 15 month old daughter like a dog. I can't help it. They're so similar!
  11. Wow, it looks like he's settling in fantastically!! That's awesome. Enjoy :D
  12. He probably thinks that they're his 'welcome to the family' dinner :D
  13. It's one thing to re home an animal due to not being able to afford it anymore, but to just toss it on the street is another thing entirely. Edit to say: Thank you for showing the dog kindness and rescuing him.
  14. It's not Pet Barn, it's a shop called The Pet Company Maybe that should be made clear, as some might get the wrong impression. I refuse to buy anything from a store that sells pets. I didn't see Pet Barn written anywhere in the article (In case I missed it???), I think the OP has accidentally called it that.
  15. I got something in my eye watching that. I need a cuppa obviously They were very cute. :D
  16. Cost me about $200 for Kyojin - he was also charged the bitch price as he had an undescended testicle that they had to go digging for. He was about 30kg at the time.
  17. No, definitely not. I have enough trouble worrying about my family being able to look after Kyojin. As long as I only have the one dog, I probably won't ever need to board him. But I guess if we had two dogs and they were at kennels, they would be able to play with each other. But that would be it.

  19. I love the Beagle has landed suggestion. :D
  20. I only just discovered sticky date pudding a few years ago. Never wanted to try it initially as I don't like fruit like sultanas etc, so I thought I'd hate it, but it turns out it's the most delicious dessert ever.
  21. I'll tell you if Neo ever grows a brain, if you tell me if Zeph ever does! I'm sure Nova - at 9 months - is far more mentally mature than Neo, who is about to turn 3  She's already totally running rings around him! My poor boy, God love him! You two have made me realise that both Rotties I have owned have been bitches. So I guess if I were to get another Rottie, I would probably be more likely to get another bitch due to familiarity, and both of them had such awesome personalities.
