  1. Thats so cool. They look so alike in markings & SIZE LOL
  2. I don't trust anyone else with my guys apart from their breeders. I have used kennnels a couple of times in the past & one of mine came home with an eye infection, another with kennel cough & stressed out. If I had to use one I would stipulate they are NOT to mix or be kenneled with any other dogs apart from each other.
  3. Hi Vickie, This sure does make sense to me. I have always thought with Stella if I can find an activity / job that she loves & focuses on I would be able to channel a lot of her edginess into something positive. Stella certainly wouldn't fit into any group or club scene. She just wouldn't settle & she would be upsetting all the other dogs cause at times with certain dogs she charges at them. And also I think general obedience would bore her to tears as she likes things at a fast pace. Even when I am walking her she is walking at a really fast pace & she seems to be so alert. She see's & hears the slightest things even if it is behind her she will spin around in a flash. Thats why I thought Agility would really suit her. I have no experience in Agility at all but it looks like a lot of fun for both her & I. It would stimulate her & she gets to focus & do her favourite thing "run". I will have to look into this I think as I feel like idle time is just ticking by when she could be learning & I could be learning how to keep that active mind of hers stimulated. :)
  4. Interesting point JulesP & one which we will find out on the w.end when we give that idea a go.Stella is very clingy with Sonny but she is also the same with my OH & myself, so we will see. Right what you saying about the difference between the sexes. Sonny is so lay back & not nearly as driven as my girl. Everything Stel does is at 100 miles an hour & she is as keen as. Nothing gets by her. I've only ever had one bitch before stella & she was not nearly as driven as this one. I think my anxiety levels have lessoned after posting my quest on D.O.L because there are quite a few fellow DoLer's with similar problems as I am dealing with & they have overcome them with guidance & time. There are a lot of different things I want to have a play around with regarding Stella's behaviour so we will see how we go. Keep you posted. :)
  5. Theres no need to panic. It's some information that I thought people that feed the food might be interested in. It states that the food was mainly distributed to certain states in America. Who is to say that it wasn't shipped from ports in those areas to other places in the world? Yes, who's to say. I am not willing to take an unnecessary risk when it comes to the health of my guys. Thanks again Boxer 5 :)
  6. Oh dear ! I am using on the brands that has been recalled but as I keep my dry food in a container I have thrown away the original bag. Going to swap right now, not worth the risk. Thanks for the heads up.
  7. Tassie, Yes she does seem like she is carrying on like a spoilt brat & believe me she screams like one too  Talk about perform. Very glad to hear that their are quite a few of us with performers. Stella certainly didn't seem worried about leaving Sonny behind. I thought is was going to be a difficult walk as she was so upset moments earlier but she only looked back once then I just couldn't fault her & she seemed relaxed, straight after one of her biggest & loudest 'moments' yet. I do use a "yes" marker with her & when she was younger I used a clicker which she actually loved & responded to well but I was fumbling around like an idiot with it. Just too many things in my hands I think. Might give it another go. :)
  8. And I might have missed if this has been told in a post throughout the thread, but check diet and avoid anything corn based. Interesting Erny, Both of mine are on grain-free Taste of the Wild, salmon variety & 1/2 chic frame. Sonny is grain allergic. :)
  9. So sorry for your loss. To lose one is bad enough but two in such a short period of time would be just devastating. Lovely pic's, especially the one of Jess & Rusty on the lounge. Such nice, happy & content looking dogs. R.I.P. Jessie & Rusty. Run free together beautiful pals
  10. Not suggesting I think this is the case (I couldn't, as I've not met the dog) and the edginess you speak of could be a result of genetics and earlier environment (pre-rescue) but browse the website for medical reasons where this might be possible. Just one example (emphasis on "example") is thyroid dysfunction and in dogs that would be hypothyroidism. Early onset of hypothyroidism can represent itself as similar to "hyper" and doesn't necessary show up the common typical clinical signs until the disorder has progressed. I'm not suggesting you panic about things potentially being medical, but when a dog is not one that finds the ability to relax very much and is edgy especially when things oughtn't be, I do turn my mind to medically based possibilities and research them a little. Just for clarification sake - are you saying that Sonny and Stella have only been together for a bit more than an hour per day? If that's the case, I would suggest that the remaining 23 hours should have been enough for Stella to learn independence. But perhaps I've misunderstood. No Erny, they have been together all the time but my behaviourist said I should have only let them be together for 1/2 to 1 hour per day, the rest of the time she should have spent with me & on her own only wish I would have known. She also said the same as you regarding the edginess, she thinks it's genetic. :)
  11. My brother has an 8 month old Havanese "Lola" & she is just a wonderful little girl. Lovely temp. very lay back, must be the cuban way I think. She is white & apricot in colour. Just adorable. I bet you are going to miss little mr. cutie
  12. Glad I'm not the only one that has had the 'Iv'e ruined my dog moment' PME. It feels terrible especially when I try so hard with them to 'get it right'. But we are onto it now & we are going to work through it. Spoke with our behaviourist & she seems to think that Stella's temp. is & always has been needy / edgy. Not something that I have caused but just her nature. However letting her be with Sonny probably more than about 1 hour per day has enabled her to lean on on him & this has only emphasized her neediness. Now to gradually separate them I have to slow the process down even more than first thought as she doesn't have much in the way of coping skills. Hence the performance she puts on when Sonny is "gone". Going to start with 5 mins Sonny inside, Stella outside & visa versa.( You were on the right track ) Gradually increasing the time. Baby steps for now. Thanks for your vote of confidence PME :)
  13. Oh thanks ness. Can't help it as my dear girl was/is so stressed on her own. Fancy your one will jump over fences to find you. They are amazing sometimes aren't they? Loved the utube clip ness Such a talented girl. Good luck Thursday. Be in touch.
  14. Hi PME, I am very upset at the situation with my girl as it is my fault for not separating her from him earlier, I just didn't know . Anyway I think I will start to bring them inside on their own, good thinking just for a short amount of time to start with. Its funny cause sometimes when you are in a situation you can't see any solutions or your not able to see outside of the upsetting scene. As for the howling on the table, hmm yes we had the big howling show on. I could hear Stella 3 blocks away Thanks for your ideas & help PME once again.
  15. Hi erny, good thinking. I think this is a good start. I just thought if I took Sonny out for a short time it wouldn't be a problem. Geez I couldn't have been more wrong. Stella got herself in such a state & I ended up almost in tears. Will give this a try I had a 2 hour consultation with a behaviourist & I emailed her with an update on whats been going on. Next visit, when I can afford it, 1 hour visit. Thanks for your imput erny. I appreciate it. I am upset with this whole Stella thing as I was unaware that I was suppose to keep her away from Sonny a lot from when she first arrived home. I thought that is was all going well cause they were getting along so wonderfully well. It never accured to me that she was actually leaning on him & not maturing to her full potenional. So I am pretty disappointed & blamming myself big time at the moment.
  16. thanks I will try giving him a good bath, so far I haven't found that he seems to need more regular bathing, he doesn't seem to get a doggy smell, or particularly dirty, and if he does it dries then it all falls off. :) In regards to the 48 hrs either side, I usually use sentinel or comfortis so usually don't have to worry about that. Though I did make sure it was 48hr from his last swim, which was actually early Wednesday >.< not Thursday, (stupid brain) and he was treated Friday night. Can grain allergies just pop up? And are there other signs/symptoms I can watch out for? He has been on other foods that have higher grain content and He has never had a problem before? Sonny's allergic reaction to grain did. Just started to have this unusual smell & dandruff all of a sudden. He had always had dry food with grain previously with no issues. Its was really weird. Now grain free diet with 24 hours no more symptoms & he is looking & feeling better than ever.
  17. Oh, just how darn cute is little miss Veikko !! Good luck in the show ring.
  18. How cool !!! Jill is doing a great job I had no clue that deer could be aggressive to humans though, who would of thought. They are so cute , especially when they are little. Thanks for sharing. :)
  19. Quick update regarding Stella. Stella is going really well when I take her out on her own. Very obedient & seems relaxed which is terrific. However when I take Sonny out without her & leave her at home, even though OH was at home though not engaging her, Stella goes ballistic. Screams, howls & cries her head off uncontrollably. She has her Thunder Shirt on (thought that may help) I can hear her the whole time I am gone like 3 blocks away Am also concerned as we have elderly neighbours who wouldn't think twice about complaining to the authorities & I wouldn't blame them. Question being do I continue trying to separate her from Sonny even though she carries on like this? I really want her to mature with some confidence & I know she won't while she leans on Sonny like she does but I don't know if there is any other methods I could use to do this. Last thing I want to do is upset her further & I don't want a dirty letter from the council either. Idea's anyone ??? I am at my wits ATM with her as since I have been trying to work with her regarding this issue it seems to have raised her stress levels as she is a lot more reactive to everything around her especially in her own backyard & her barking has seemed to have escalated a lot
  20. My male BC had dandruff about 1 month ago. His coat still looked good but he had dandruff on his rump mainly & he also had a 'funny' smell about him. Smelt like sweaty gym clothes for want of a better discription. He was licking his feet a bit too. Turns out he is allergic to grain. I switched his dry food to grain free. With in 24 hours, no more smell/ dandruff was also gone in 48 hours & has never returned. His coated now had never looked better.
  21. Beautiful once again W&H. Those horses are a very lucky to have you. You keep them in magnificent condition. Their coats are gleaming & the way they are kicking up the dust they are feeling pretty darn good too :D
